It's a massive game. Them missing Rogers and Duran is huge for us.

It's similar to the Newcastle game in that if we let them then they will just eat us alive but if we actually stand up and play with intent then we can absolutely get something.

Had a dream we won this 2 nil and Alves came on and scored both of them late on. Very realistic I must say.

Wet?

As long as we play like we did against Manc we have some chance, and hopefully they've had another week practicing how to keep the ball out of our net.

Went last time, lovely 4-2, suspect will be the other way round this time, hope you're right though

The fact is that we haven’t scored in 3 games this is a real problem, I think we need nididi back asap , hope we make 2-3 decent signings , but quality , not kids , we need blokes who can hold on to the ball

Pretty sure we took the lead at Anfield

Sorry had the wolves game in mind , but it’s still a worry 1 in 4 games

It's the hope that kills you.

I think we showed some really good passages of play against Man City but we won't have as much posession at VP, so it will need to be counter attack football.

BEK and Soumare need to have another outstanding game and Winks needs to go up a cpl of gears. We don't need any defensive cock ups when in fact we've had them every game this season, I expect JJ and VK could be exposed again and we'll need Mads back. Vardy has got the opportunity to upset the crowd so an early goal would set us on our way.

Ultimately I don't think we have the minerals or the back line to come away with a win, a score draw is our best hope and would be a good result.

We have a good record at VP (even if you include the League Cup semi fluke) but I just can’t see it. Get ran off the park. Soumare red card potentially

If JJ isn't fit, I'm really not a fan of Hamza at right back, could BDCR play there? Remember him at least playing wing back for fulham

I think JJ not being fit could be a real blessing

Good to see you're still taking an interest in the club Steve.

Did you not see Hamza when he came on for JJ on Sunday? He was a clear and immediate upgrade.

Was he? Maybe I'm missing something but as per with Hamza at full back, he was nowhere near their winger for the 2nd goal.

Yep. Let them dictate the game and we'll lose.

But I think there's a lot of confidence the squad have taken with how Sunday went (despite the loss). It wasn't a resounding defeat like Brentford & Newcastle.

The more times that that front 4 play, the better it'll be as they'll improve on that connection. It can be so good.

Not strong enough, doesn’t tackle. Hamza is the only option.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy Pre-Match Press Conference vs Aston Villa

January window?

“When I came in, we assessed the current squad and I wanted to see how it was during December so we could know the positions. Then we would look ahead to see what is possible in January. We have been aligned with that since the first conversation, and now looking into the window. We’re clear on looking at certain options."

Which positions?

“These conversations are important. The December month gave a clear view for me where the team needs help. You can also look at injuries and how long they are out for. But we’ll keep that behind closed doors.”

Edouard?

“Odsonne is part of our squad. He’s one of the two Premier League loans we have. We expect him and Facundo Buonanotte to be at the club.”

Use your connections with United?

“Of course I am looking at my network, having played in a couple of countries. It’s important to use my network to strengthen the squad and help the team reach its target.”

Squad status?

“We’re looking to have Jordan Ayew back from suspension. Wout Faes has been in individual training but we expect him to be in the squad.”

Hermansen?

“Mads won’t be available. He’s been assessed over the past week. He’s been in his rehab programme. There’s not a clear picture but he’ll be out for a couple of weeks at least.”

Man City?

“We showed ourselves on and off the ball. But the big indicator was the reaction of the crowd. They were behind the players even after the 1-0 for Savinho. That says something about the performance. It doesn’t sit well that we didn’t get any points.”

How to get points?

“We have to maintain these performances and look at details in the two final thirds. The development is there but against the bigger teams, it needs to be spot on. That’s what we’re focusing on.”

What have you learned about squad?

“Playing six games in a month, it’s a condensed schedule. You learn a lot about individuals and how they train. That’s why it was such an important month to see what we want and see if the right possibilities come up.”

Villa?

“They’re doing an excellent job. Unai is a top coach. I have followed him for many years, with Villarreal and Sevilla. The success he has achieved with different clubs, he’s doing an excellent job with the players. They’ve signed some great players. They have built Villa up to a very stable club.”

Rogers, Duran, and Torres missing?

“But Bailey will be back from injuries, they’ve got Mings back. They’ve got a squad with two top players per position.”

McAteer?

“Kasey is doing better. He’s been individually training. Maybe he can do partial team training. We’ll see if he can make QPR.”

Injury to Fatawu - want a winger?

“It’s good to look at where the injuries are and make your conclusions. We’ll make decisions on where we want to do it. We need the signings to strengthen. I want to share the different views of how we approach.”

Mood?

“The performances give a certain trust and confidence. But there’s no points won. But we also know it was at Anfield and then at home against City. There were opportunities to collect points and that’s where the disappointment is .”

Relegation battle?

“I had a very clear view, before I signed, that it would go right to the end of the season. I’m prepared with the team, game by game, that by the end of the season we are where we want to be. In that sense, I’m not focused on where we are now. I’m focused on us getting better and where we can strengthen.”

Squad good enough if no signings?

“We’re looking at possibilities to strengthen. We have to do it. But this squad has qualities if we have everyone is on board. It’s on us to prove that. With the current squad, we go to Villa, and we have to prove we have to stay in the division.”

Interest in Dewsbury-Hall?

“You can’t have any more Premier League loans, so you have to deal with the current situation. But we will explore all possibilities. We are working with Jon, Martyn, the scouts and we’re looking everywhere.”

Mads injury has been much bigger than first expected. Curious what he's actually done

Cynical side of me says it's convenient to keep him out of harms way throughout January in case Man City or Chelsea hit the panic button and there's a deal to be done.

Reading this he’s quite regular mentioning incomings in one way or another, I really hope this isn’t Rodgers in the 2022 summer all over again where we get nobody.
