I would say the best attributes of those players is being able to read the game. Something our centre backs seemingly cannot do.

Don't disagree. But they had that tackling ability. Coady and Faes are clumsy at the very best. Vestergaard runs away.

I like what I've seen of Okoli but like with almost all our centre halves it's very confusing. They're all OK in their own right and yet we keep signing loads of them that quickly aren't considered important by the manager.

Souttar

Faes

Coady

Okoli

All four of them are here nor there, got strengths and weaknesses, especially at this level.

Only Vestergaard has the passing ability that sets him apart and his lack of pace makes him and us vulnerable but we feel the loss of him when he doesn't play IMO.

Ben Nelson hopefully is better than all of them.

Ideally we sell Faes and it looked like we might recoup a fair chunk of what we paid for Souttar but he'll now be out for a year and we face a very uncertain outcome with him. Coady I'd try and move on as well.

Absolutely spot on, every one of our main centre backs are ideal back up options or be good playing alongside a top quality partner but as a group currently the sum of the parts of whoever we use are not good enough for this level.

I would really like to see us move on 2/3 over the next couple of transfer windows and refresh our options and bring in players to complement and play alongside Ben Nelson.

He’s only 23, getting picked for the Italy squad and it’s his first season in the premier league. He’s looked solid most of the time. Wouldn’t mind him going on loan but I’d keep him for now.

If it comes to it, a season in the championship could do him some good

Yeah but... how have you read what I put and concluded that I believe a defender shouldn't be able to tackle at all?

I'm just saying it's not the most important part of a centre back's game and you listed a whole bunch of defenders who are, or were, celebrated for their all-round game...?

Like, VVD is brilliant for all of the reasons I described in my post and his ability in the tackle isn't really top of that list (as good as it is?)

Our biggest problem at the moment is how often our defenders are either nowhere to be seen or are just straight up beaten to the ball. Look at the Haaland goal the other day, ****ing hilarious, he's the best 9 in world football and he's not exactly hard to spot but he's alone in our box unmarked with neither CB having a clue where he is and our left back desperately scrambling back to try and catch him.

Somewhere in the stands Robert Huth was having a stroke watching that.

Not good enough technically for how Ruud wants to play.

at one point in the season wasn't he making the most 'break the line' passes in to midfield of any centre back?

We use to be pretty good at signing CB Huth, Maguire, Evans, Fofana and Soyuncu.

I'd take an offer on any of the current 4.

Vestergaard would be pure profit as he has no amortisation left.

Faes anything over 9m is profit.

I can't see Parma paying a fee, that would make financal sense to us from a PSR point of view. I think a loan with a fee is probably the likely.

Coady we would need Round 5m+ to make it worth it.

Only one I'd keep is Nelson and if we go down I want him to be first choice alongside an experience pro.

When was the last time we packed off a summer signing after only half a season?

Reliable? Hopefully we will sell for at least what we paid. Shame as I thought he was developing into a decent player. Maybe he just hasn't settled in UK

Probably popped into the city centre and thought feck this, I'm off.

The only way Okoli is going is if we are confident in bringing in a first choice CB, surely. I think he has a lot of potential, and I can't see us offloading him with just half a season over here. I think he's said he enjoys the challenge of this league too.

I'm a bit unsure about Okoli. I'm nowhere near convinced, but I do actually think of the four we currently have I'd probably start him which isn't really saying much for the others. I really hope this is a permanent transfer if so and we get some money back. Cannot be arsed with another Praet situation where we're just losing money and people pretend it's some sort of good deal.

Genuinely insane for anyone to write off a CB who’s only 23 and involved in the Italian National Team setup.

He needs a run of games next to an experienced, positionally-sound partner. Unfortunately, we’re lacking in that area.

Unless he absolutely wants out and can't see himself settling in the UK, I don't see the point in getting rid of him when we have Faes/Coady/Souttar all on (presumably) more money while not being (to my eyes) much better players. Would sooner see some of the extremely average players we have littering the squad moved on over those who could still come good.

There is not a center back at the club that I would be sad to see leaving.

None of them are good enough.

I'd be pretty sad to see Ben nelson leave

I've heard the closure of M&S really affected his form.

And there was the unfortunate incident outside MacDonalds when a street urchin shouted at him "Chat shit, get banged"

If we sell him this January after giving a 6 year contract in the summer then that’s a shocking piece of recruitment.

Let's be honest it'll be a loan. We cannot afford to take a loss in our PSR position and it's unlikely an Italian club pay £13m less 1/5th amortised in 24/25.
