It really is wide open this year. It looked like a very kind start to us, but Preston and Charlton have started strongly.

You’d hope we improve enough but even playing like this, we could fluke our way into the play offs.

As much as I hate them, Coventry are being ran very well. Doug King got so much shit for sacking Robins, but look at them now. They’ll be in the top 6 at a minimum.

Just shows that you should never let sentiment rule in football.

who we guessing then?
I'm guessing Southampton

Could be a whole host of clubs but Southampton was my first thought too.

Us probably!

Some people saying Blackburn too! But yeah they’re probably the top 3 candidates lol

Even if managers and players change, having a near record breakingly bad season takes a lot of recovery. When Derby finished with 11 points, they nearly went down again the next year.

Southampton have won 3 in 45 league games. That is a very tough thing to turn around.

Their attacking numbers have been scary good in the first 7 games.

Keep leading those metrics, they’ll unfortunately be in with a shot of automatics

I was a bit shocked at the reaction to potentially getting Lampard for us. He's been tarnished a bit in the heads of football fans by how bad it's gone for Rooney and Gerrard recently. Ended up put in a load of memes with those two when he's comfortably better.

There was always a lot said about how intelligent Lampard was, not just on the pitch/football intelligence but in general. Especially when in contrast to some of those other ex-players who've gone on to management. I can see why they're all lumped together a bit - when they all started retiring from playing and getting manager gigs it did feel a bit like they were getting jobs bigger than they should based on their experience just because of their names. But Lampard seems to be making a better go of it as a career than the others and after a few rough early seasons at his clubs (not all down to his management) he seems to be stepping up a bit and doing well

Reckon Birmingham.

Most likely Birmingham, I somehow don't think either Tom Wagner or Tom Brady are the patient type or have sentiment to stick with Davies. Won't be surprised if there already eyeing up replacements with Potter, Carrick, Dyche, Gary O'Neil, David Wagner (name sake) and Bob Bradley (perhaps with the US connection) all available.

3 points off second place and a considerable amount of goals.
Hardly panic stations

That really is bonkers.

Agree. Three positives so far.

  • in the play off spots
  • defensively we look poor individually, but somehow tighter as a unit
  • patterns of play are beginning to show

Cannot comprehend why anyone thought this would be a quick fix, if people are convinced (with reason) that some of the old farts and garbage needs clearing out, then this needs to happen when there is interest or the contracts are run down enough to get an easier sale.

Then some will say ‘Just play X from youth and we will be fine’ which is ridiculous, as it is a short term answer at best, because if they do well they will be snapped up next window.

We need to build this clearing slowly and sensibly, with savvy recruiting whilst pruning the deadwood when/where possible.

Give him time.

This might be the most astonishing explanation not to bring through academy players I have ever read. Superb work pal.

With regard to our youngsters, noone is suggesting we bring them through too quickly, but I think the key consideration is where we will be at the start of next season if we manage to achieve promotion.

The last thing we'll want is, like last season, to start with a squad which relies on experienced players who are past their prime, not of the required standard, or who have no fight or commitment to the club.  Therein lies certain relegation.

So we do need to give sufficient exposure, over the course of this season, to our youngsters who look to have a high ceiling - Monga, Page, Aluko, Nelson at the least - in the hope that they can step up to Prem level next season (not necessarily as starters, but as squad players).

I guess we're early into the season now, and Cifuentes is still assessing everything, so no need to panic yet that we're not seeing a lot of these young talents.

So you think a team that broke records last season have all turned on the manager after a few games this season lol
