Ian Nacho Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 I could see us getting Carrick; not sure if he's my first choice but better than a lot of the options linked.

He really isn't though. Very little experience, and not a lot of success in that period either as a coach or manager. 1

Surely he has to be better than Dyche & Martin. He's more experienced than Rohl which people seem to like the idea of.

kingfox Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Boro fans were getting restless with him around January/February time, he earned himself a lifeline by getting them back in the top six, but then they fell away again. Possession based and comes across as very one-dimensional, has often been criticised for his defensive setup too. Pass.

Quite disrespectful to dyche that. he might not play beautiful football and that’s why we can fairly not want him but he’s a miles better coach than someone like carrick and Martin. He’s not done a bad job anywhere. Maybe didn’t have Everton flying but they were always safe. Got Burnley promoted twice. established in the prem and fighting for top 7. kept Everton up in a season they could and should have dropped. Anyone he would go to in the championship instantly becomes a contender imo. 6

As a manager he’s taken Burnley from low/mid championship to an established PL team for a few years. Two auto promotions, one European adventure. He also stabilised Everton in the PL. Carrick has a playoff semi defeat to his name. And that’s it. 1

davieG Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 England Under-21s head coach Lee Carsley has signed a new deal that runs to the end of the 2027 European Championship.
AjcW Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 (edited) Always seems to have relied on one very very good player. Morgan Rogers Latte Lath As soon as they're gone, big problems. January replacement recruitment was shocking mind. Iheanacho and Whitaker aren't going to fill a top scorer hole! I do think Boro fans could question their owner a little more though, the ammount they sold Rogers for was criminal They've also not 'spent loads', they've actually reinvested less than they've made in the last two seasons, so FWIW they've spent nothing. Flynny Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Carrick is still developing as a manager and finished 10th with an average team with no parachute payments (completely respectable result!). He's got more upside than a lot of options we've been linked with. 2
Tuna Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Carrick is a ridiculous suggestion, I know we all seemingly want RVN out but sacked by Middlesbrough is not where we should be looking. 2
STUHILL Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Carrick? Oh dear. He will keep us a Championship side for as long as he is here. Completely mediocre in everything he does.
murphy Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Carrick? Limited experience in management, not really achieved anything, good ex-Man Utd player... We've already got one of those.

Foxes BC Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Would take Dyche over Carrick all day long. Yes, the football might not be attractive to watch, but I would rather see us win games. Dyche has been successful and proven Premier League manager. And am sure will get the respect from players and staff. 2

foxpleasure Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 If RVN has a contract until the end of June and this includes a reduction in salary like the players it would make sense to sack him on 1st July as his compensation would be based on his reduced salary.
winteriscoming Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 Don’t want Carrick. Seems to have been getting worse at Middlesbrough. Finished 4th, 8th and 10th last season. But he’s a big name so no doubt we’ll be interested.
l444ry Posted 4 June 2025 Posted 4 June 2025 When judging Managers it would help to take on board that all success is relative. Not that many trophies on offer every season and a lot trying to get just one of them.

Not a world-beater but a very good man manager who develops young players, and passable tactically. Also has a really good contact network. Definitely should be a top 5 target imo. He had some bad days at Southampton and rightly can be criticised but I think it's been evidenced that he was keeping them above water and they were better off keeping him.
