Illan Meslier is the one that I have a feeling is on our list, i have no info just a gut feeling. The same Meslier who has been linked to us in the media last week you mean? Hopefully a load of balls. Dropped by Leeds and he is a bomb scare. Stolarczyk is fine, has huge potential and we have much more pressing areas to spend our money in I reckon.
Muzzy_no7 Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 (edited) Still likely need to sell Bilal on top of this in order for us to actually do anything ourselves. 20m by itself won’t be enough for us to then go and spend. Edited 1 August 2025 by Muzzy_no7
Jazzy_Jeff Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 Assuming Mads does go I think we sign another keeper. Jakub needs competition, as good as Begovic has been I can’t imagine he will be trying to outperform him in training to put pressure on Marti. We should either look abroad for another prospect ala Mads or see if there is a more ambitious younger keeper in England who wants to try to earn their place.

If we only sold Hermansen and Bilal we'd still need to shift 4-5 more. We simply have too big a squad. Hopefully making some profit though enables us to move the likes of Coady, Justin, Soumare, Winks, Faes on etc for modest fees or even loan deals to just get them gone and save the wages. 8

Even if amortisation wasn't a thing, that would have covered Mavididi, Hermansen, Cannon and Fatawu's loan fee. When you consider amortisation, that would have paid for our entire window last time at this level. Obviously it doesn't really work like that, we already have losses to cover and like @Ric Flair says, the squad is still too big. But I don't necessarily agree we'll need to sell 4 or 5 players before we buy anyone. There's a couple of glaring holes in the squad, in particular we're desperate for a striker, and I can't see us entirely ignoring that if we pocket 25m from Hermansen. Especially if we're confident Bilal and Coady are following him out the door in short order. I just hope we wrap those three up quickly and they don't ****ing drag on all of next week. 5
coolhandfox Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 There is a reason Hermansen is about to be sold for around 20m and Stolarczyk isn't. Stolarczyk isn't on Hermansen level, at 24 and 25 years old respectively one has a wealth of experience the other has the odd patch games here and there. Jakub could get to Mads level but he's someway behind him at the moment. 4

Doesn't have his level of distribution but the main thing is that he's been given little opportunity, as is the case with most keepers. He's shown he's plenty capable and he has assets that Hermansen doesn't (ability to claim crosses for example).

I don't share the excitement about him that some have but he's clearly good enough to fill the gap, especially in the Championship, meaning we can spend any money on more critical positions. He's not as good as Mads but he doesn't need to be. What's important is that we unearth a few more Hermansens, not necessarily goalkeepers but £5m footballers that improve the first team and can be sold on for a large profit. 22

Popular Post Sol thewall Bamba Posted 1 August 2025 Popular Post Posted 1 August 2025 Seeing that news I'd usually I'd be happy that one of our best players now might not be leaving. But because of a combination of our incompetent owners and the PSR rules "for the good of the game" you can't really celebrate it because it means either we'll have to sell someone else (likely bilal) or we get shafted again on finances. The fun has been totally stripped from football. 6

cityfanlee23 Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 (edited) Jakub was ideally a ready made replacement under Ruud/Cooper, is he a ready made replacement under Marti-ball? his distribution and passing under pressure is his biggest weakness. Honestly, I'd love Jakub to prove me wrong as I think he's prem potential in most systems, but he's yet to show he is good enough on the ball so can only hope he improves. Jakub has a pass accuracy of 51%, long ball accuracy of 30%. As much as I want us to stand with Wednesday and the thought of them being asset stripped in their current situation is awful, Pierce Charles is far better on the ball and imo is going to be a top 6 goalkeeper for years to come when he escapes Wednesday. Would be cheap given their situation, Pass accuracy of 76%, 52% long ball accuracy, Goals prevented 2.4 (Jakub -0.62 albeit at a higher level) Pierce charles is the real deal. I hope Jakub can be too. https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/players/1096327/jakub-stolarczyk https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/players/1420144/pierce-charles Edited 1 August 2025 by cityfanlee23

Edit just seen not a huge difference 56%pass 27% long ball I've noticed a lot of people making quite a bit of this, including one or 2 youtube fan channels who have referred to Jakubs foot work as 'awful'. I think it's unfair, and Jakub has always looked comfortable to me passing around at the back. I felt Mads struggled playing long a lot last season as well, although i do think Mads is better. I'm just not sure its a massive problem for Jakub who is still learning on the job. Towards the end of last season i could see that Jakub was taking more risks and some of this wasn't great, but that's part of the learning and as we were relegated the right time to do it. 3

lcfc_forever Posted 1 August 2025 Posted 1 August 2025 Is this back up at West Ham, or for their no.1?
