I'm sure it's all perfectly kosher billionaire-with-shady-links stuff that we just wouldn't understand. 

 

Last time I worked for a company with an elusive Chinese director I enquired as to the role of the man who I only ever saw dressed in black Prada carrying large sums of cash to and from the office.

 

I was told 'he brings something to the business that nobody else can' so I didn't feel the need to probe further.

Shilai Liu had a connection to Vichai via Polo. He’s an initial investor at the time of purchase and basically moves in the Polo circuit. 
 

He’s a well known figure I guess, one of Chinas best polo players and the owner of Tang Polo club.
