Danno Posted 21 June 2025 Posted 21 June 2025 If he signs as 3rd choice that’s great, you essentially sign him to be an experienced head to get behind the other 2 and help out with coaching. Will probably be doing badges at the same time. Was a very solid PL keeper his whole career so could be great for the dressing room 3
CloudFox Posted 21 June 2025 Posted 21 June 2025 I'm not against this, if he's second/third choice (depending on if Mads goes). He's a good experienced pro, a safe pair of hands, and could be great from Jakub et al to learn from. So long as it's a short contract on low wages, it could be a sensible signing. 3
scinnell Posted 21 June 2025 Posted 21 June 2025 If you think a goalkeeper of Begovic quality and experience is coming here as 3rd choice, you need a reality check. Storlarcyk, Begovic, Bausor are our options next season IMO. Faith needs to be placed in Jakub - he has remained patient over the years and has took his opportunity last season. Begovic is a more than capable backup and hopefully, his experience can guide Storlarcyk cement the position as his own. 2
StanSP Posted 21 June 2025 Posted 21 June 2025 It's fine signing Begovic. Don't mind it. What's not fine is if we find out he's on a huge whack and then that prevents us from signing actual better players in the areas of the squad that desperately need it (RB/LB, ST) 3

LeePhilpottsBaldSpot Posted 21 June 2025 Posted 21 June 2025 Fine as a back up. We have two young keepers, and at least one will move on. Always a place for an experienced senior in the dressing room, and I'd rather that be a sub keeper than a starting outfield player. 1
dooflip Posted 22 June 2025 Posted 22 June 2025 Smart move this. Providing he’s not on massive wages. Will be good for the young keepers, and he was a decent keeper in his day. 1
damolcfc Posted 22 June 2025 Posted 22 June 2025 Guessing our manager does not have a say in signings then?

Fox92 Posted 23 June 2025 Posted 23 June 2025 So many people moan about us just signing players for "experience" then in this thread say how his experience could be helpful. He's 38 ffs. Don't want him. 1

He's 38 ffs. Don't want him. He's a good signing. We need at least one keeper (two, if we sell Hermansen), and he's a free agent. We're not gonna find a 25 year old Prem level keeper on a free, who's willing to come to a Championship club. Edited 23 June 2025 by sporter113

teblin Posted 24 June 2025 Posted 24 June 2025 Has been a decent Keeper, 38 isn't too bad as back up/rotation. Had a good season for QPR the year we went up I believe.
slymunn Posted 24 June 2025 Posted 24 June 2025 Ward and Iverson looked to be on around 60,000 between them last season. If Begovic does sign on say 20,000 and we have another academy lad as third choice...we are adjusting the wage bill by almost 2 million for the better, whilst upgrading on Ward at the same time.
Tommy G Posted 24 June 2025 Posted 24 June 2025 I think a 1 year deal wouldn't be a disaster. 2/3 year would be.

UniFox21 Posted 19 July 2025 Posted 19 July 2025 For right wage/contract length, not a bad option at all. 1
