So people want half the reserve team starting, that finished lower to mid in the reserves league?

I’m one of the biggest haters in the forum but some of you need to remember it’s the second game of preseason ffs. At this stage it’s about fitness - we don’t even have a manger yet

We were also well in control before they scored a freak goal from a mistake inside their half. I was quietly encouraged by the first 50 minutes or so.

To be fair, apart from that scrimmage header which hit the bar and the direct free kicked saved by Leysen, you created absolutely zilch in the first 90. You went ahead from an unlucky owngoal, I think that cancels out the freak (or world class, label it however you want) strike by Mijatovic.

Just watched the highlights but there was something wrong with the coverage. It inexplicably showed Daka hitting a shot on target

Of all the things that didn't happen today, that didn't happen the most!

Glitch in the matrix. Won't happen again

Can’t comment on that, only what I saw today. Wout Faes was really generous with his time, I saw him going over to people several times and big smiles every time.

I've said this countless times in his own thread, but people confuse his hair, his inconsistent performances (in shockingly out of form teams) and laconic demeanour with a bad attitude.

I've always liked him. Just needs to be playing in a decent, stable team

Good to have a alternative opinion. Balances things out.

Aluko impresses me even more every time I see him. He will definitely be the starting left back by the end of the season.

Left back?

What I meant was that it was a freak goal to concede. I don't want to take anything away from the finish, it was a fantastic strike, but there was no systemic issue which led to us conceding it. I'm sure we've both watched enough football in our lives to have seen those shots end up anywhere other than the back of the net.

I saw some good patterns of play from us in that first 45 minutes given that it's a second preseason game, we don't have a manager and most of us detest many of our players.

Left back?

Played primarily LB for the 21’s last year despite being right footed. Plays anywhere across the defence though.

Always looks like he's playing football for the first time.

I'll hold my hands up, I thought it was a real coup when we bought him. I thought he'd be great. He's bloody awful

Wasn't it him or Edouard?  And we were so excited we got Daka.

In best LCFC fashion, we finally got both in the squad.  Just to confirm yes, Edouard was (even) worse than Daka.

A good place for him to start would be at fullback moving into a back 3. Would be perfect as Ricardo can then play on the other side inverting into midfield.

We can sell VK (hopefully) and keep JJ, Thomas and Woyo as other fullback options. If they can then move on Coady, Faes and Vestergaard we sign one CB to play alongside Nelson, Okoli and Souttar (when fit).

His future is at CB though imo. He’s got all the physical attributes to play there.

I think this needs to go in to unpopular opinions I hold

Monga & Fatawu i totally agree.

Probably going to be an unpopular comment, but I actually think the others you have named look very inexperienced to be starting.

Even Alves, who yes I understand will develop,  looked like he constantly did one thing too many. It will all come with experience,  but not sure that experience should be starting for us in such an important season.

Monga is the exception being the only youngster id genuinely be happy to start for us every game.

That's not to say the likes of Alves & Evans dont look promising.

Again, just an opinion.

Page and Aluko have been class

Despite all of the doom and gloom on here, the squad isn’t half bad. If we can ship off Faes, Vesty, Soumare, VK and Hermansen (as the big sale) I don’t think we need a massive amount. We could build a fairly strong spine, using Nelson, Winks/Ndidi and the Bilal. We will need a striker and probably a CB, ideally an experienced one to sit along side Nelson.

But when you look at the squad, even like this it should probably piss the championship. It’s about attitude with this lot, is Cifuentes can get the right tune out of the lads then the squad is more than capable of walking the league. The likes of Ayew and BDR will find it a doddle, Skipp has proven he is more than capable at this level, and Bilal will easily be the best player in the league. Out of the youth, Aluko and Monga are ready. Page and Evans are ready to be integrated into the team, and Evans just needs a couple of goals to get his confidence going, but you can already see where he would be good, similar to Chilwell he would be able to drive us upfield, which is what Aluko was doing too.

Im more positive about next season now, they look fit which is the main thing, we didn’t look fit last season and that’s always going to kill you. Kingy has done an alright job getting them ready… this is where Seagrave comes into its own now, we could be driven by our youth, this season… and isn’t that precisely why we’ve invested so much into Seagrave?

I do respectfully disagree.

Evans is outperforming Saka when he was a youth player. He’s actually looking very promising to me, powerful, explosive, rapid and is a tidy footballer. He’s ready to be integrated into the team. Alves will be fine he’s overcome a horrific injury at his age, and he was impressive at Cardiff despite them being a poor team.

Page looks about ready, and Aluko is a beast. I’d put both Aluko and Monga straight in, Monga is already probably the best winger on the league….. he’s just insanely good.

Braybrook is unfortunately finished here, he needs to move on and rebuild his career elsewhere if he stays here he is in danger of being released into the abyss.

Eventually I think Evans, Monga and Page will be playing every week. I think Alves will come good, he’s an extremely talented lad who’s been dealt a horrible stumbling block that he is fighting back from. A manager like Cifuentes will like him and develop his game.

Our youth will save us this season, and save us a **** tonne of money.
