Page and Nelson carrying knocks.  Carranza has literally just joined.  We will see plenty of Monga this season I am sure.  We managed the second half very well given we were down to ten men.

I just think we could have done with some pace and wide after Fatuwo went off.

Pages had a hamstring issue, Carranza has had little or no pre-season.

Monga is a kid, how sometimes needs to be protected, this was a game for experience once we go down to 10.

It a good result to get something.

That logic is usually sound unless the alternative is ******g Bobby De Cordova Reid!!!!

Nah, he's not getting any pelters from me. There's not really anything he can do about almost our entire outfield giving them ball away so cheaply in the first half and one of our players making a rash challenge to get himself sent off. He made changes at half-time which gave us far more control in the game and we got a point with ten men. You can make the argument that Winks should be starting, sure. However, several people on here have been claiming that Winks should never play for us again. Can't have it both ways. Now that we have Jordan James and Winks having put in that performance, I'm hoping we don't we Soumare and Skipp playing as a pair so often.

Today was not the day to bring Monga on

I think you could make an argument for both sides.

He is a match winner, but with 10 men, does he weaken our defence/strength

Personally, I would have taken that risk and pushed for 3 points as we had enough physicality already on the pitch

The Soumare and Skipp pairing is the only criticism I will have. Today was the first time we've genuinely had options. Moving forward I'd like to to think we won't see both on the pitch together. Hopefully Winks has his head on straight and I fully expect James to be a starter.

Everything else is a work in progress and there are some good signs. Second half today I thought tactically he got it spot on. A couple of dubious subs late on aside.

We need to be patient.

Have to agree.  I'm becoming to like him.

Half time changes were sensible, gave us more control and a bit more of an attacking threat being a man down.

Soumare and Skipp had to start, they having been the starters in the last 2 games we won.  Sends the wrong message if dropped.  The others have to play there way in, James surely will start soon.  Winks probably still moping about and soft in the tackle, otherwise he starts.

Realistically we shouldn't have got a point from that, yet we were the better team 2nd half

Be interested to hear @StriderHiryu thoughts  on if we might have to adapt our style to be less reliant on the wingers?

Despite the wide men being on paper our strongest area, every opponent so far has seemed to cope fairly well. Stephy and Abdul are more effective out wide when on the break. Seems to be nullified when we have the ball.

Could we pack midfield more and play two/three of  Abdul Stephy Daka Ayew Monga Carranza much narrower and pick teams apart?

As per my last post in this thread, still not convinced. We were second best against 2 league one teams and only thanks to a moment of brilliance managed to get the 3 points from them games. Scrapped past a poor 10 man Sheffield Wednesday and then outplayed by a doggo Preston. Even before the red card today, we we were second best to a poor poor team in Oxford.

The only glimmer of hope was against an unfit second string Fiorentina.

You can shove your sound bites where the sun don’t shine, Marti’s an amateur with a ropey cv. Talks the talk but very much doubt he can walk the walk. Not convinced at all

Seems you're pretty convinced that he's $hit by calling him an 'amateur' with a 'ropey CV' and conveniently disregarding our last (and best) game.

At least he's managing to change games positively and giving plenty of minutes to Monga and Page, while getting results.

It's not like we're honking like Sheff Utd...

Mavs and Fatawu both beat their men on a few occasions today.  Wingers are always going to be a bit hit and miss.

The bigger issue is what options do they then have other than passing it backwards? I'm hoping Carranza is better at finding space in the box than Ayew and that James or Ramsey offer more in the box as well.  Carranza also better in the air.

I like Ayew at this level but he's not a 9. Not even close.

The football has been honking under him apart from the odd glimpse here and and there. Everything he talked about being his philosophy hasn't materialised.

The jury is still massively out on Marti IMO, he talks a good game but he's making some absolute ridiculous player choices.

Him talking about Skipp and BCDR being his favourites is massively worrying.

Guess we didn't want the game too stretched being down to ten men.  I just don't think there's too much to criticise today.  The minute we went down to ten this had banana skin written all over it.  We did well to come away with a point.

If he keeps starting Skipp and Soumare now the window has shut and we have other options I will be the first to moan.

Another manager playing the same shit players the same shit way game after game.

He could make this team a lot better than they are but it stays the same.  Either he doesn’t think there’s a problem, doesn’t know how to fix it or the players won’t listen.

None of our players have improved any of our players.

The only good thing of note for me is giving Monga a chance, even then he has Thomas behind him and Ayew to the side.

I don’t expect much from him as he’s not really an experienced manager. The team, club and manager are at the same level.  A few changes from all and they can be so much more.
