He was bad last season but you’re right being next to Faes made him appear a lot worse.

Leeds - "For £8 million how would you describe your style of play?"

JJ - "I'm a great player but I had Wout Faes next to me which made me look really bad"

Leeds - "Ah we completely understand and see your point. £10 mill authorised"

Did Rudkin get slated for not getting enough for Mads? But now we're getting good fees for sub par players it's not Rudkin doing the work, it's Glover.  The mental gymnastics some people go to to credit and discredit people is well.... mental.

A fair point, but I think one of the reasons people might make that distinction is that Mads was in demand and we didn't want to lose him, so we all wanted more for him, whereas Coady/Justin/Faes are players we want to shift and don't expect there to be much interest in. So any fee is a bonus!

Historically we've also been pretty good selling players we wanted to keep for high fees (Maguire, Drinkwater, Fofana), and poor at shifting out players we don't want. So people will begrudgingly acknowledge that Rudkin has got good fees for in-demand players (maybe less so in recent years re: Maddison and Barnes), but our problem has been shifting out those we don't want, which is a failing. Earlier this summer, Tom Collomosse reported that Glover was being given more control on the transfer front, so people see success following that "change" and allocate that goodwill to Glover.

Personally, I think Glover has got more control now, so he is accountable for transfers. As it should be since he's our Head of Recruitment! Rudkin is still responsible though, as he'll have final sign off. Just means they're both responsible for all of it, good and bad.

That is abysmal. Agreed midfielder and striker are more pressing, but we need a LB desperately too.

I don't have a great deal of faith in our full-back options at all - one of the main reasons I'm not jumping for joy at this one no matter how good a deal it is for us. On the right Ricardo I think is probably still one of the best players in the league but sadly I don't believe we can rely on him, Choudhury I'm still not convinced by (good at the weekend though), Coulibaly plainly has no future here whatsoever. On the left I remain really unimpressed by Thomas, Kristiansen I'm not sure is any better and as with Enzo I don't know that he really fits with what we want from our full-backs, Aluko looked handy in pre-season and I hope we see more of him in the future but he didn't get a minute in the cup and hasn't even been in the squads for the league games.

Tielemans was a lost cause. He purposely ran his contract down and was always going to leave on a free to pickup a large signing on fee. You can’t sell a player that won’t accept a move. He was turning down contract extensions from us for 2+years.

But did we actually try to sell him? Can't blame the player for not extending his contract. If anything, he's probably been completely up front and transparent about his intentions all along.

We absolutely could do something, if he was resisting a move - don't play him and see how that hurts his changes with the Belgium squad. But we didn't play hardball which to me suggests he wasn't a bad egg.

Don’t get me wrong I can’t stand the guy, the sooner he goes the club can move forward. My point is in terms of outgoings this summer he’s done a good job. Am I going to say “he’s changed” or “give him another chance” fvck that!

Tom Collomose seems to have an insider at the club and he suggested that Rudkin was taking a step back and Glover was taking a more prominent role, so there’s an element of me that’s curious to whether this is Rudkin’s work or Glover’s.

We agree in general.

My issue is that it's too little too late. We're relegated (again), charged with PSR breaches (again) and the talent we have left in the squad is reduced to Fatawu, Monga and a few other Academy prospects. I don't trust any other player in our squad to currently or potentially be good enough for the PL.

Even if we were to miraculously make a push for promotion and go up, I Imagine we'll have to basically breach PSR again to have any chance of surviving.

So while I commend our sales (I mean, they're OK in the context of today's market, no more), I'd rather we got rid of Reid, Ayew, Daka, Winks, Skipp, Soumaré, Faes, Vestergaard and maybe Kristiansen who are all still here. Glad Coady was sold though.

With competent management (like we saw under Enzo), I don't think Justin is nearly as bad as some make out and would have been a better option than Thomas or Hamza imo.

That was Kisnorbo. Canero was never alright

You're absolutely right. It was actually 'he used to be shite, and now he's still shite' me and my mates used to sing about Canero as kids. Time has clouded the memory a bit lol

Hopefully a few more to follow this week and it gives us the headroom to bring in 4/5 new players to balance the squad where needed and freshen things up to better suit how Marti wants to play.

IMO we need a defender, 2 x midfielders, versatile attacking midfielder and a striker but some of that will be dependant on some more outgoings of people we want/hope to move on.

Four or five is optimistic this late in the window unless they are frees and loan signings.

I'd be happy with just a striker capable of leading the line. If we can add a box to box midfielder worth his salt then bonus.

Not if the majority are loans or free’s where we have agreements in principe already in place.

Or even agreements in priciple with players and selling clubs.  We've seen already how things can happen, even here, when there's a will e.g. Kasey.

That said, let's not get too optimistic shall we.

Agree with most that you state, however, I think this is the case for most recently promoted clubs.

The Premier League is broken.
