That's got to be the next UFS banner!

Next Sunday could turn into an anti-thai owners demo! Hopefully it rolls on from last season as nothing has changed.......

Anthony would have been told by the high ups (Top via Rudkin) that this was happening and he’d have to make it happen

Same way the sponsorship team were told BC.Game was happening without any input

(Interestingly the head of sponsorship has since left)

Of course. But as I say, for me, and I imagine some other people, that would be “thanks I’ll be off then” time.

I actually feel for our Tony here TBH, you have no choice at times and if the owner says “do this” you have to do it and deal with the shite afterwards.

I once had to deal with the world media phoning me at Doncaster as my seniors were more interested than usual (allegedly) in the voting of a  “design the kit” competition that Louis Tomlinson won! The club did it most years but this one year things were allegedly slightly different.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/05/doncaster-defend-kit-design-competition-after-louis-tomlinson-named-winner-one-direction !

With the Thai message it’s more the stadium safety / management team that can challenge if they want to as I think it breaches FA regulations or can be seen as provocative but I’m not sure how this works in a friendly match.

This club becomes less and less likeable by the week.

Add it to the list I think at this point.

The ever growing list of WTF moments.

I saw it too several times.
regardless of where the owner stands on the conflict back in Thailand it has no place in the public sports arena. Can’t drag out fans and city into this not knowing all the facts from both sides. I didn’t like it. Stick to football matters please lcfc before we get hit with more fines from the FA

Says it's been organised in discussion with the club. I don't think they'd be able to sneak in a massive banner otherwise

Are @Union FS planning anything to support this?

Frankly, they own the club and can do what they like with it to a large extent.

This was a friendly match, outside of the EFL or Premier League.

It didn't actually hurt anyone or offend anyone. As much as people are feeling outrage on here, its not because anyone understands the situation closely enough to believe the messaging is false. (I get the point about not allowing other messages, but as I say, it's their club)

I know bashing Top and KP is the order of the day, and most of footballing decisions over the past few years have been shambolic, but there is a war going on in their country and they feel strongly about it, and they have tried to help do something about it, and I just don't see it as a big deal.

Have you read most of this thread?

A possible AI-enhanced photo from the club's Thai account and they can't fix the sun-bleached seats. We look like Sunderland on their way down the divisions.

As for the propaganda, Thailand could be entirely justified in their indignation. But we just don't know. How could we possibly know which side is telling the truth in this case? This messaging shouldn't have been shown. Thai politics has been rife with corruption with coup after coup. The world can't trust the message. If it goes up again (I don't think it will during competitive games) then it should be roundly booed. That's the only real message we can give them unless we can sneak in anti-propaganda signs.

Would you be saying the same if KP were Russian and they stuck some Russian flags on the big screen

Its more the general principal

Can't see this happening at a league game.

It's not legal is it? Tbh, FIFA are pretty hot on this, I'm surprised you can get away with it in a televised friendly.

Probably helps that Thailand is a much wealthier country than Cambodia but yknow. Still.

Therefore comes under the FA's regulations

If this involved the players and their 'equipment', it's pretty clear on this  - https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-4---the-players-equipment

I bet the clubs communication team winced when top sent the email through for this one. Needed that like a hole in the bollock.

Really disappointing behaviour again. Hopefully the club gets charged. I imagine they might get away with it due to it being a friendly but definitely against FA and league rules.

Relevant Rules & Regulations

  1. FA Rules – Rule E3

    • Prohibits “discriminatory” or “inappropriate” conduct, including political statements that might bring the game into disrepute.

  2. Premier League Handbook (or EFL equivalent)

    • Contains clauses that prohibit political, offensive, or controversial content from being displayed via official club media, including perimeter boards, in-stadium screens, or matchday programmes.

    • Clubs must seek prior approval for content on advertising boards (especially LED perimeter boards and jumbotrons).

This even mentions military messaging;

What Counts as “Political Messaging”?

It can include:

  • Flags or slogans related to conflicts, governments, or independence movements.

  • Advertisements promoting government programs, military campaigns, or state-backed narratives.

  • Messaging that may endorse or oppose specific legislation, referenda, or political parties.

Hopefully it is picked up and they get charged and fined.

Seems at the least foolhardy to attract the FA in our direction considering the financial rules debacle.
