Needs to go on the outside a bit more and use his left - otherwise too easy for the full back to defend 

 

at least he was bright and looked to make something happen rather than always taking the safest option

I thought Thomas got up to support him a few times and Cullen was somewhere near, but they didn’t seem to know how to work together. Maybe they will learn and become the next Chillwell, Barnes, Maddison group.

Not seen McFarlane so can't comment on him but Alves would look even better with Aluko behind him

Alves weakness is probably his defensive ability so we must have a reliable left back so we are not exposed. Thomas is not that, let's hope McFarlane is stronger.

McCarthy - abject

Thomas - how have we not replaced him yet

Okoli - bombscare

Souttar - bombscare

Joseph - a bright spark, will be important this year

Alves - a class above the rest of the side besides 

Braybrooke - anything positive came from him

Cullen - was he on the pitch?

Skipp - he just kind of exists doesn't he? 

Burns - did nothing 

BDCR - he's not a striker and on that performance barely a footballer

 

Besides that yeah we looked great 😩

Interesting as I would have gone Alves and JJ.

 

I thought Braybrooke struggle first half but got better second half.

 

Could be where I was sit in the ground as I've notice a lot say how good he was, maybe looked different on TV.

"I'm really excited to play the game... I'm not sure if I'm starting though!" Will Alves refuses to get carried away about his place in the Leicester City XI against Burton Albion this weekend, despite making a strong case for a starting spot in Russell Martin's team.

Alves started for City on the left wing at Notts County last week and was one of their standout performers. The 21-year-old repeatedly got the better of his full-back in the first half and was involved in the 44-pass team move that ended with Jayden Joseph firing into the bottom corner.

He came off in the final 15 minutes after picking up an early yellow card and feeling some tightness. However, the attacker is now hoping to make his first league start at the King Power Stadium.

"It was a great feeling, just really exciting," he told LeicestershireLive. "As soon as I knew that I was starting, I was buzzing to play the game. I think it was just really for us to put more of our chances away and to not give away as many chances to the other team, which I think we've really worked on this week and hopefully we can be better in the game on Saturday."

 

Alves had impressed on the right of City's frontline in pre-season, while also showing his versatility by playing centrally and on the left. With Stephy Mavididi excluded from the squad at Notts County amid transfer interest and seemingly set to leave, Alves now appears to be Martin's leading option on the left.

"Yeah, I think I do prefer playing on the left to the right," he explained. "Really, I just want to be as positive as I can every time I get the ball and not be afraid to take risks and to just try and create as many chances or have as many shots as I can."

Alves scored twice for Huddersfield Town and once for Cardiff City during his recent loan spells. He is yet to score for Leicester's first team, but his performance at Notts County offered an early indication of what he can bring to Martin's attack.

The Groby-born youngster broke into the first team at just 16. Brendan Rodgers handed him his debut in the FA Cup against Watford more than four years ago, giving Alves the chance to train alongside the likes of Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

"Yeah, I was really lucky when I was 16 to be training with some of the players that I managed to train with and play at their level," Alves said when looking back. "I learnt a lot and then even going on loan, I managed to play with some great players as well and just to really learn off all the senior players and try and add bits to my game

"At Cardiff, really for me, I got to play most games. I had quite a lot of starts and it was only a half-season long loan, but really it was just adapting to the men's game and I managed to get a goal and a few assists as well. I really enjoyed that loan.

"Last season, it was a tougher spell [at Huddersfield]. Obviously, I got injured and then trying to get back into the team, but I really enjoyed my time at Huddersfield as well, even though I didn't play as much as I wanted to.

"Obviously, the first time in League One last season and [I learnt] every game is different. Some games are rougher than others and you've really just got to fight each game."

At the end of 2022, Alves tore his ACL after a horror tackle from Wolves defender Caden Voice. The incident was slammed by Rodgers, who called it "one of the worst challenges" he had ever seen. For Alves, the serious injury forced doubt to creep in about his returning to his best.

He said: "It was really tough. I feel like for the first couple of months after the injury, I struggled really. I didn't think that I was back to my best at all.

"I was struggling to reach the speeds that I got before. Yeah, it was tough. I was a bit worried, but then I managed to pick up my confidence again and kick on a bit."

Next up for Leicester and Alves is the first home game of the season against Burton Albion. When asked about his excitement of his first league start for the club in LE2, Alves was quick to show humility.

"Yeah, I'm really excited to play in the game, [but] I'm not sure if I'm starting yet though," he said.

"It'll be a great feeling to be able to walk out of the King Power again. I'm really excited to play another game."

Burns - broke down the right, showed composure and played BDCR in who ****ed up the one on one. 

Burns - nodded the ball to BDCR from Alves cross, having come in from his wing in an intelligent fashion. BDCR ****ed the 6 yard tap in.

 

apart from lay on two guilt edged chances from quality play, as a winger, Burns did nothing I agree.

I feel like that Burns and Watson's height could be real weapons for us this season.

 

Whether they're crossing the ball or it's Alves or Howell, depending on the side, Watson or Burns arriving at the back post could be really dangerous.

 

Having those extra options could really help us break teams down when we're fully up to speed.

 

Wingers who can cut inside, wingers who can go on the outside. Speed, height, trickery. Hopefully they can all reach their potential here because we have real variety.
