Remember being really impressed with him when he played against us.

Just wondering why he left Birmingham to go to Rennes, does anyone know what happened there?

They got relegated would be the main reason I guess?

Do you mean he pushed for a move or sold to raise or save money?

Just seems he’d be the sort of player needed to get them back up.

This is the tweet when he left Birmingham, a lot of well wishes and positivity in the comments.

Getting a box-to-box midfielder was almost as crucial as a striker this summer, Jordan James is the perfect profile, fingers crossed he’s a success here.

I've only seen positivity from the Birmingham fans on reddit.

I quite like the look of the squad now if we get Ramsey over the line. Only position you could say we're really lacking options in is left back

Hopefully Kristiansen, like Faes and Vesty, will do well at this level.

This one is very promising for me. Has an excellent range of passing, good finisher seem very likeable lad, eager to start. Looking forward to seeing him make his mark.  If he does, we do have an option to sign don't we?

Yeah we have an option. I think we’ll take him permanently as losing Winks and Soumare at end of the season so will be a cheap replacement

Pretty sure it was finances, I think his sale funded a large part of their transfer spend

I saw him quite a few times when we were in the championship last time. Looks like a really good player. Tidy on the ball, gets forward, eye for a pass and now more experienced.

Very good signing.

No the previous reply was better

Just watched his intro video.

Seems very down to earth and just genuine. Like he actually wants to be here and make a difference and not just pick up a paycheck for average and mediocre performances.

Inside track on new Leicester City signing with key quality unlocked by Wayne Rooney
The lowdown on Jordan James after the Wales international midfielder moved to the King Power Stadium on an initial season-long loan switch from Rennes

ByJordan Blackwell

Leicester City were first linked with midfielder Jordan James more than two years ago, long before he scored a brace against Enzo Maresca’s side at St Andrew’s.

Those rumours persisted and now, following a deadline-day swoop, James is a City player.

While it’s only a season-long loan for now, if he impresses, City do have a buy option that could see them make the move permanent.

But what can they expect from the 21-year-old? He’s been away in France for the past year and should return a more mature player for that experience, the Wales international stepping out of his comfort zone.

But it was at Birmingham where he made his name, playing 105 games for the Blues before last summer’s transfer to Rennes.

So we’ve been in touch with BirminghamLive’s Blues correspondent Alex Dicken to get the lowdown on James’ time on the other side of the Midlands.

What were James’ pros and cons while at Birmingham?

AD: James was an excellent athlete during his time at Blues. Tony Mowbray often commented on his pace and power through midfield and it was something we actually first saw under Wayne Rooney.

Of all the issues Rooney created for Blues, he actually started to unlock James' potential as a goal-scoring midfielder. Leicester fans will remember those two goals he scored against them in December 2023.

He could have taken greater care in possession at times for Blues and he wasn't always trusted to play deeper in midfield, despite often insisting that he preferred to play at number six rather than in the more advanced positions he was fielded in during his final season at St Andrew's.

What’s his best position?

AD: As mentioned above, James believed his best position was deeper in midfield as a number six, which is where he started his international career with Wales, but Rooney and others thought he was better suited further forward where his athleticism and finishing ability could come to the fore.

James is capable of forging a good career as a goal-scoring number eight. Mowbray played him wide left at times to force him into the XI and it didn't really work.

What’s he like as a character?

AD: He doesn't lack confidence! Even when Blues were struggling during that period under Rooney, James wasn't. He oozes confidence in his own ability and was generally popular with his more experienced teammates.

What’s his ceiling?

AD: Long-term I can definitely see him in the Premier League. It's easy to forget that he is still only 21. I would think that he needs to improve in possession to realise that ambition but athletically it's all there.

Just see him as the answer to have a box to box 8 who can give us physicality, his a decent height and gets around the pitch.

It going to be interesting to see how the midfield 3 is constructed going forward.

We have lost of options now with Soumare, Skipp, James, Ramsey, Page and Winks.

I'd be looking to off load Winks to Turkey or Saudi.

I’m looking forward to watching forward passes and our wingers won’t have to drop to the half way line with their backs to goal.

This signing should improve Monga, Mav and Fatawu as they will be receiving the ball further up the pitch.

If Marti insists on playing Ayew, just avoid him in any sort of build up and we should be fine.

I can see Ayew playing the 10 whilst Ramsey get us to speed.

I'll be genuinely surprised if Ayew isn't in the next few starting lineups at least.

Nailed on to start at Oxford imo. Only question is where.
