Tielemans

Probably the best technically but Campbell, Izzet and Huth in a league of their own for what they did long term for the club.

There’s a special love for Izzet though given he was a complete unknown.

I remember Mark Davies coming in and brightening up a team chock full of crap and then being sold by the parent club (Wolves) after he'd been with us for what seemed no time at all (was it at the end of the same window we got him in ?)

Peter Weir and Nicky Cross were the shrewd, clever sort of loan signings we thought Pleat was going to deliver time and again.

Alas,.both left at the end of their half season loans and Pleat went doolally

Cross signed permanently didn’t he? Was with us for 18 months, Newells strike partner. But then Pleat inexplicably sold him on and of course his first goal for Port Vale was against us.

Too young to remember Kevin Campbell but Huth was one of the most important loan signings in our history.

We wouldn’t have won the league if we didn’t sign him.

I think this is only fair if you pick someone we didn’t eventually sign.

I loved Ben mee and Kyle naughton. Gutted when we didn’t sign either of them

Miguel Vitor was class when we had him on loan.

Most over rated player we’ve ever had. If he’d played more we would have hated him.

it was just a time when it was so rare to see a cb comfortable on the ball. But he wasn’t actually any good at defending

Mark Davies was my absolute favourite (saying as everyone else has already gone Huth lol)

First game was very much "oh shit he's far too good for us"

A 2 month loan deal, turned out Bolton had more money than us back then lol

Mark Davies was the one that sprung to mind.

The other being Micky Galloway, came in from Celtic, looked the business, hard man in midfield, broke both his legs in a car accident if I remember correctly then had issues with alcohol.

There's obviously some better loan signings that we went onto sign, but for standalone loans, these two stuck out for me
