You're right in that five games with a considerable turnover in players isn't enough. Other clubs who have experienced similar overhauls may be doing better now, but after ten games - still early doors - it's possible that they're not, irrespective of whether I expect that to be what happens. It is also perfectly possible that, as a result of Martin appreciating the gravity of the situation or maybe as a result of the players saying 'screw the boss, we're going to make sure we put in a performance and do what we need to do', that we beat Stockport. If, and of course it's a very big if, that happens then you'll see a similar knee-jerk reaction and people asking themselves whether Martin is at last on the right track. They would be as fickle as those who were happy to wait and see after Plymouth, but who thought he needed to go a few days later. You are also right to indicate that we'd have missed out on the O'Neill era and probably still been at Filbert Street if we'd listened to the voices in the boardroom, and among the fans, who'd wanted him gone after 12 weeks. The reason I disagreed with those people at the time was that our form had faltered near the end of McGhee's time and I agreed with him that we'd become one-dimensional, and that things were less rosy than they seemed. Well, we know things aren't rosy at the club right now, so it's normal that someone should be given time. Maybe, like me, you want to see him gone because you never wanted him in the first place, but the same principle has to apply regardless. That said, as another poster pointed out, there are some key differences. In addition, remember that being proactive worked out well for us with Sousa, and waiting worked out badly for us with Rodgers and Cifuentes. There are cases when it appeared to make no difference (Taylor, Cooper etc.) but it's fair to say that we can't afford to wait too long. One key and very distinct factor in this is that the club is up for sale. If KP can market it as a big FLC club on a one-year League One sabbatical then they'll get a half-decent price from reputable bidders, but that depends on us looking like we're on our way back up. If we're not, then we become practically worthless.

He should be sacked and hopefully will be soon. He managed to get Rangers to 8th and us looking like we will get relegated if he stays. But he isn't the biggest problem. The biggest problem is who hired him in the first place. Since Rodgers was here and we seemingly handed over the transfer policy to the manager we have been on a continuous downward spiral. Rodgers is a decent coach but he signed Joe Allen as a replacement for Xabi Alonso at Liverpool. He has always been awful at signing players. Then we sign players that Cooper wants, Ayew BDCR etc who he claimed were experienced Premier League players but really were just rejects from other teams we needed to finish above and we got stuck with on huge contracts. Now we have signed players Martin will have wanted no doubt and whoever has to come in and pick up the pieces has to deal with them. We were literally the model that teams like Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth have emulated. Signing players via dedicated recruitment that are good for the club then find a manager to coach them and we threw it away through the sheer stupidity of our board. Martin should go but we need a change right at the top and the only way that will happen is if Top understands that he's not getting 200m for us now. He would be lucky to get half that. The assets are only worth it if we get back to the Prem and that could take years of heavy losses. 5

This was always going to happen. The noises coming out the club for a while now indicated they thought he was Brendan Mark II and they’d strike gold when they land him. But then still sign some quality young players like Abdul, Kanga and Bristric (yet to be proven)…. But it’s clear there’s a lack of alignment between the recruitment team and some managers….. Its quite clear when a manager signs a player and the recruitment team….. the only manager who’s seemingly controlled transfers and got it right was Enzo, but as you’ve highlighted so many managers have been poor…. Even Rodgers as good as a tactician he is, his personal signings are ****ing abysmal! Puel, was excellent, but his football was abysmal…. What we need to do is say, “our recruitment team will find the players, you tell us what profile you want”…. Rather than them suggest their mates who are 9 times out of 10 ****ing garbage. 2
