Am I right in saying we've only signed one first choice goalkeeper since 2011?

Kasper and Hermansen in the last 15 years! Crazy when you think of it like that.

It's frustrating that the club don't seem to agree that it's arguably the most important position on the pitch.

You've got to love that no matter what money issues we have or gaps in the squad there are the club are always committed to signing a 3rd choice keeper.

£10million wasted on wages for 3rd choice goalkeepers since 2020 and that trend doesn't seem to be stopping.

Probably 2nd choice tbf, Vietes will probably **** off back to Spain.

I was impressed by Vietes in the friendly, can see Martin trying to keep a hold of him.

If we lose a goalkeeper I can guarantee another one will come in. Having 3 senior goalkeepers is a criticial requirement of the club for some reason.

Oh yeah, absolutely zero forward thinking from our scouting team. Completely lost what gave us success before, terrified to sign anyone unknown.

I'd question what we're paying the scouting department for. Every single one of us could load up Transfermarkt and just sort by free agents, lazy c***s.

I feel for Ings and McCarthy as this shopping through agents for former Southampton players/managers has already reached meme territory and they immediately get tarred with that.

There’s nothing wrong with a couple of experienced heads. Pearson used to do it and they aren’t known as bad eggs.

If we bring in some complete gems during the window and balance that with utilising the free market to bring in a couple

with experience like this, I’d like to think most would be supportive of that.

But the club has created this reputation by repeated actions. People chuck out this negative tag very lazily like supporters have been given no reason to be. It’s based on the clubs actions and people are now thinking the worst. It is at the point where the club have made so many repeated mistakes that is is genuinely fair to assume failure until proven otherwise.

Massivr no from me unless we sell players on. Jesus we are in league one, probably ok to have an academy keeper  as 3rd choice. Waste of wages in my opinion.

This Southampton obsession is just weird now.

It's murky. This just isn't standard stuff.

I think Vieites could be first choice this season, his ability on the ball, in passing and awareness was clear in the first half against Northampton (far better than JS) and suits Martin's style.

Think thing is now we do not need any more ‘experienced head’ signings, unless we manage to sell all of our centre backs. Chaplin, Ings and McCarthy will be enough, imagine Choudhury stays  and maybe a Skipp or Souttar. Hopefully this is the groundwork so we can go off now and make our marquee(for L1) signings with some of our sales money

Most of our signings aren’t due to scouting it’s just dodgy agent dealing

This.

McCarthy isn’t a bad backup option, but is he really coming to us on backup league 1 wages?

Even more alarming if he’s coming in to be first choice and we cash in on Stol.

Weal, the new Goalkeeping Coach, will now be assessing the skills and strengths of Keepers at the club, in training and pre-season Friendlies and I guess they'll all start with a blank scoresheet. I wouldn't be surprised if Vieites gets prime position once the season starts..
