Russell has told LP that he wants to play a more defensive style of footie and he's not in his plans going forward.

It's a tricky one but LP just wants to play football and it's a toss up between heading to Man U now knowing he's gonna have to either fight to impress and play or be loaned out or stay here and fight for a place knowing his manager has basically binned him already.

He's supported Man U since a young kid but LCFC have treated him appallingly and he and his family just want some clarity as to where things stand.

As much as I'd love him to stay I think I'd know what I would do if in his position and that would be to go.

Not what I've heard.....

Yeah this just doesn’t make sense

This would be so disappointing. I was hoping he would be a central player this year. I know he is young and can't play every minute.

There are so many better ways to make us more defensive than sidelining LP.

So he has told LP that he wants to play a more defensive style, a more defensive style than what? Can you calirfy the first sentence, I’m not sure I understand. Can LP notoriously not play defensive football? RM has brought it Cullen and Chaplin who are surely less defensive than LP?  I find it all very confusing

Wow this is absolutely incredible, wants to play a more defensive style, so will persist with the likes of Skipp & Choudhury rather than one of the brightest young talents we have produced in years. Absolute madness and also very very concerning.

I was really hoping this would be the opportunity for Louis to be a regular in the matchday 18 and lots of starts, to hear he is effectively being pushed out the club is really concerning.. Hope this is not because he is seen as saleable asset and the club are just looking to raise some fast cash.

This bit doesn’t really make sense. Nothing in Martin’s career, nor his time with us so far, suggests he would want to play a more defensive style of football. He very likely wants better defenders who can play the way he wants, but that does not equate to adopting a more defensive style (which for Martin would amount to abandoning his entire football philosophy). Why have we been signing so many attackers if that’s the plan?

Page may well have supported Man Utd since a kid and the club may well have treated him poorly (that’s entirely believable), but this stuff about Martin not wanting him doesn’t really stack up—Page is exactly the kind of player Martin likes.

It’s more likely to get new defenders in, Page has to go. No one is taking Skipp and co, so Page is the last asset available right now.

Maybe it means in the position Page plays he wants a more defensive minded player.

Martin is not a defensive manager in the traditional sense. He wants games controlled but not defensive

Both of these make more sense than Martin telling Page he wants to play a more defensive style.

I can’t believe Cullen, to date our new invisible man replacing BDR, is getting a game in front of Page. I hope, if we start to get control of games ( can’t see it happening though) Cullen may pop up edge of the box and do something, but to date all I’ve seen of him is him having it took off him, he’s not got a pass or shot away yet in both games! Page did more in ten minutes.

Then tell us what you've heard and I'll compare it to what his mum and dad (of whom I'm a family friend of long before Louis was even born) tells me.

I could go into a helluva lot more detail but out of respect for Lisa, Don and of course Louis I won't!

Well you sound like you’ve already done a disrespectful thing to them!!

Think it’s that Braybrooke role in the team, and I think for good or bad he sees Hamza as the alternate there for the defensive work. This one is going to be the hardest for me to get past with Martin, it better work out favourably because selling an 18 year old because he doesn’t currently fit the team would be incredibly short sighted when the manager is brand new and comes with this much baggage. 100% convinced we still don’t have our starting 6 for the season unless we bring in a heap, in which case it will be Skipp for sure until Martin goes

If we are actively encouraging him to go so we can play losers like Oliver ****ing Skipp and Hamza ****ing Choudhury the club deserves liquidation

Especially when any profit made on Page will go straight into the pockets of these players because of their insane wages.

What does "wants to play a more defensive style" actually mean?

I can't envisage a more defensive style of football than that currently played by Martin, in the sense that most of his passing style seems to be around our own penalty box and he seems to loathe the ball being passed forwards.

Russell is a disastrous appointment for alot of reasons, but getting rid of one of our best young players, I didn't expect that. Top and Rudkin really are on a mission to ruin us.

The bit where it does stack up, is that he is choosing Braybrooke and Skipp ahead

of him.

In the context of, in that position I want to be a bit more defensive, with Alves and Burns out wide I think it makes perfect sense and adds up.

I think it’s Braybrooke/Choudhury. They seem to be Martins favoured options in that role, then Skipp and I’d assume new lad for the 6. He seems to value the defensive side over anything in that role, which is probably not Page’s strongest suit. Would be clinically insane to sell him mind you, way things are going especially with how Cullen has looked you’d think he’ll be in with a shout very soon at that role if he can’t do the defensive side of the other

Page needs the fans support to show this is ridiculous from RM and the club.  Sing his name loud and big cheers.......

You can understand why Choudhury was brought on at 2-0 down with 10 men ahead of Page surely? For his limitations Hamza will actually at least try and put his foot in.
