I'm optimistic about this one. Always seemed like a decent player and I've seen quite a bit of him at Rangers. Him/skipp/Braybrooke/Page are decent and varied options for League 1.

I can see the thinking myself. The average age of the side tonight was 22.8 Which will be a lot younger than pretty much all the sides we will come up against. A lot of these young academy players are talented enough to tear it up but are they rough and nasty enough for 48 relentless games against fully grown experienced blokes looking to get in their faces. 

 

John Lundstrum is! And hopefully this center back from Hibs will be too and between those two and souttar it's looking like a good blend of youth and experience/horibleness.

 

As for getting a 2 year contract? That's really no biggie for me I doubt he would be coming for 1. Let's not forget the out of contract player has a bit of leverage in these situations.

You can see from the first 4 games Page and Sammy B will be getting some treatment from the cloggers in this league and what happened to Stolarcyk just shows how quickly your plans can change.

2 years. Don't mind it. Adds a bit more physical presence in the team and someone clearly not afraid to get stuck in. We look quite lightweight at times.

You do on occasion need to sign some experience. 

 

Rob Huth was a badly injury prone 30 year old when we gave him a 3 year deal. 

 

Johnny Evans was the same when we gave him a 3 year deal and extend it.

It's going to be a long, bruising season.

 

So far Page and Braybrooke are coming through it really well and are among our better players.

 

But having a grown-ass hard case like this guy in there will look after them a bit when we're playing weekend, midweek, weekend over the winter.

 

One of our weaknesses for a number of years has been that we're really easy to play through sometimes.

 

A bit of bite in the middle of the park from a better player than Choudhury and Skipp will be very welcome.

eh, not every player has to be one with resale value. This is very much in the Dean Hammond/GTF/Kevin Phillips mold, a senior pro on a short term deal to provide a guide for younger developing midfielders. It's a good signing. If it was a 3 or 4 year deal then sure, but a 2 year one is fine

Nothing wrong with our midfield so we can look forward to dropping our new young stars for this senior player who is at the wrong end of his career and has never been that good.
