We are crap over here when we even get an inch of snow.

We arent used to it and everyone still drives like a tw@t.

I'm refraining from cycling to work as it's too slippery in the mornings and car drivers are tw@ts.

Having said that I will revert to being a tw@t car driver for the rest of the working year until temperatures reach a staggering 3c atleast in the mornings!!!

You say the UK isn't used to it, but the same thing happens year after year after year lol

Still crap because the councils and Gov decline to fund something they see as non-essential. IMO

It's more of a "not willing to spend another 1-2k on winter tyres / chains.

Yes but that's the thing.

Who in the UK has winter tyres/snow chains?

If the average person went to kwik fit I'm sure even they wouldnt know what to say?

Indeed.  I am sure if you are in Scotland of the North it is more common.

We had winter tyres when we lived in Northern Ireland. I'm not sure it was very common but a daily commute across a mountain range made it a sensible move for us.

They're still in the loft of the garage at the old house, if you want a set.

Collection only, I'm afraid. We're back in Leicester now so a bit awkward, almost as awkward as getting them out of that loft, which is why they got left there :D

Yeah I hate driving in the snow. I remember sliding off down the wrong exit on the London Road roundabout and having to go through Evington instead of being 2 minutes from home.

Was like driving Herbie.

Day just starting for me, but been up for the last hour listening to the tornado alarm going off.

It was orange and bright outside. Now it’s dark AF and pouring down rain.

Awful day today to end an awful year. Got sacked at work. I've been suffering from body dysmorphia for years which is a form of mental health disease. It's been affecting my life for years too, brought my engagement to a crashing halt and held me back in my career.

This years been hard because I moved to a new place which is so noisy I can never feel relaxed, struggling to sleep for months and been on edge and with crazy high anxiety. Decided to do something about it and get treatment but it's been hard to hold down the job with all the stuff being brought up in the treatment and eventually they've let me go after months of underperformance.

Trying to tell myself it's for the best as it was a dead end job anyway but with a mortgage to pay it doesn't feel that way.

Sorry for unloading on here, just find it easier to talk to strangers about this kind of thing and Foxes talk is a sort of community. 😊

Sorry to hear about the job situation but it sounds like you’re taking big strides in the right direction to overcome those longstanding difficulties and to have a better life generally for the long term

Hopefully in the not too distant future you’ll be better equipped to get a much better job and to start enjoying life again. Good luck 👍

I can't like this post enough. It means the world that some bloke I only know by Internet alias (a good one at that) has taken the time to reply to a rather pathetic self pitying post. Thanks Mike, it's given me a little bit of cheer and motivation tonight, you're a good egg.

That sounds awful.

There is a really strong community on here of really good types that are brilliant at listening and offering sage and sound advice if needed.

There’s a couple of top guys and gals not too far away that can offer support and a sympathetic ear.

It’s been a while since I’ve been sacked, but I do remember (after a short period of self pity) that I was better off without that job and used it as a chance to reboot, re-invent and go again.

Hopefully you can take a little time and go again in the new year.

Massive thanks mate. As above I'm really grateful for you taking the time to reply with a positive message and good wishes. Great to know there's a supportive community on FT. Means a lot, stupid as it sounds 😊

It's still quite raw but I'm thinking it might be best to get a part time job with no pressure while carrying on with treatment so the pressure is off and there is no real need to keep up appearances. There's no magic fix to this illness but you can definitely learn to keep it in check and not be too hindered on your life. Will be extremely hard to pay the mortgage and I'll probably have to move somewhere smaller to reduce financial commitments. But maybe that's the best long term plan. Or maybe it's unrealistic and the beers talking.

Either way, I'm super glad I posted. Has really cheered me up to get a couple of kind responses. 😀

You're going through a tough time, for sure, and am genuinely sorry you're going through a rough patch - it must hit you so hard psychologically in being 'sacked' (I don't know you, but have read your posts in the past and you seem an intelligent, young (?)) and down-to-earth individual).

May I ask: do you think your mental health battle with this illness has affected how you worked in this particular employment - and did your employer know about this, at the time of employment?

Moving property/to a new location is never easy.

I moved to London a few months' ago to move in with my girlfriend and it has been challenging (new city, different neighbours etc.).

You're being open with your feelings and stating that you're getting support; and, really, you should give yourself huge respect for this.

Unfortunately, I've read so many stories of people ending their lives without their family knowing what they went through.

All I can advise on this front is to give yourself time to go through this mental 'grievance' mental period after a soul-destroying day (to say the least), reflect on it with an open mind by yourself/family/friends and decide what you really want in life.

Obviously, I'm no qualified therapy counsellor (Wymsey, of all members? Never!.. ) by any means - and other members like @Izzy etc. who are well-known for providing other members life advice would probably give better advice than I have here, for sure - but I hope you've took on-board what I've said here.

Fingers crossed.
