The "do they mean us?" thread

16 QPR players-who'd you take for us?

Caulker would start.

Hoillett wide backup.

Austin on the bench.

Green reserve keeper.

4 players, and only one starter. I know it isn't fantasy football, and they'd be unlikely to take 12 of ours given the same offer, but since they didn't even play well as a team last year, I just can't see why people think they'll do so well...

[edit] maybe Onuoha as a utility defensive sub....

Mutch would get in, Faurlin is better than Hammond, so he'd be backup.

Article that has us relegated - load of shit.

Article which fancies us to survive - worth a read.

Tipping us to stay up or not, I haven't seen one article worth reading this summer (apart from for picking fault with it, which is a hobby of mine).

They are all just pretty clueless. Look at them on Soccer Saturday, they'll talk for ages about one Premiership club but once they get to the Championship they've got no insight at all. If we stay up, I presume we'll get more relevant opinions next summer.

When was the last time all 3 promoted sides went back down?

Don't mind us being predicted for the drop but that is a lazy, crap article.

totally agree its just a lazy piece to fill some time, he hasn't got a clue.

If we can keep the Main 18 players of the squad fit for most of the season we will be fine. Don't really care what Pundits say, they don't really know about the team ethic that we have and the good younger players.

Leicester City return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2001/02 season, and they will be desperate to ensure it isn't a one-season fling.

Overview:

Just three years ago, Leicester City were in peril. The Foxes, despite splashing the proverbial cash, were struggling to produce positive results in the League Championship and were subsequently forced into a managerial change when Sven-Goran Eriksson parted ways with the club.

The circumstances were rather grave and the outlook even bleaker. The appointment of Nigel Pearson brought a glimmer of hope to the club, although, at the time, the future was still uncertain.

However, the appointment did prove to be a rather inspired one, as there were immediate results. The rebuilding phase began and it is now starting to pay dividends.

Contrary to popular belief, Pearson has not waved a magic wand during his tenure at the helm. Rather he has taken full advantage of the resources at his disposal and bolstered the squad where bolstering was needed.

Ahead of the Premier League campaign, Pearson has made it abundantly clear that he intends to stay in the top tier of English football.

For that objective to be realised, Pearson has acknowledged that there needed to be reinforcements and reinforcements are what he got.

Marc Albrighton and Matthew Upson are expected to offer much-needed experience to the team this term. Leonardo Ulloa has also joined the club from Brighton, but even he isn’t a guarantee that the Foxes will be able to establish themselves in the Premier League.

Leicester City were in complete control of the Championship and got used to having the upper hand, so to speak. However, this year, the circumstances will have reversed. They are now the minnows and the team that every other club is expected to beat.

The club’s confidence could take a severe beating this season and how they manage to deal with adversity will probably determine the outcome of their campaign.

Key Player:

During the January transfer window Kasper Schmeichel was a player reported to have been in demand. Among the clubs that were reported to have been interested in recruiting him were Manchester United and AC Milan. However, it would appear that didn’t quite materialise.

Nevertheless he was a critical cog in the Leicester Machine during the last Championship campaign. During the 2013/14 season Leicester City kept 18 clean sheets and Schmeichel is partly to thank for that. Schmeichel was nominated for the PFA Team of the Year for the third time last season, reinforcing his status as the premier goalkeeper in the second tier of English football.

One To Watch:

Danny Drinkwater, who signed a contract extension with Leicester City in June 2014, was one of three players from that club to be named in the PFA Team of the Year last season.

In addition, the 24-year-old midfielder was nominated for the PFA Championship Player of the Year Award, following what is regarded by many as his best season yet.

Drinkwater scored seven goals throughout Leicester's successful Championship campaign and has earned considerable praise from players and the media for his efforts. It can safely be said that his performance during the last campaign certainly made amends for his shortcomings during his first season at the club.

The Manager:

Nigel Pearson is not a complete novice ahead of the coming Premier League campaign. However, the exposure he has had as a manager in that division has been brief and for the most part forgettable.

Next season provides the first opportunity for him to make significant inroads in the English top flight and it will also be a chance for him to steer the ship for the whole season. Pearson has been a manager since 1998 and opportunities to manage in the Premier League have been few and far between.

His greatest benefit perhaps, is that he has been with this Leicester squad since 2011, where he has been able to mould the club into his image. He knows his players better than anybody and significantly, they understand what the manager requires from them. Underestimate this manager at your own peril.

Transfer Activity:

In: Marc Albrighton (Aston Villa), Jack Barmby (Manchester United), Ben Hamer (Charlton Athletic), Leonardo Ulloa, Matthew Upson (both West Bromwich Albion).

Out: Neil Danns (Bolton Wanderers), Lloyd Dyer (Watford), Ben Frempah (Ross County), Marko Futacs (Mersin), Sean St Ledger (unassigned), Kevin Phillips (unassigned), George Taft (Burton Albion), Martyn Waghorn (Wigan Athletic), Zak Whitbread (Derby County).

Where They Finished Last Season: The Championship, 1st.

Prediction For This Season: 16th

This is a bit more educated, even before I got to the predicted finish. The fact that this one addresses DD and his accomplishments last year compared to most who don't even know he exists gives it more credibility that 99% of the stuff I've read about us so far.
