Matt Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Correct Also, doesn't matter what anyone's worth. January is an expensive time to buying, it's not a buyers market, all the players are under contract & you have to pay what you have to pay 'worth' doesn't come in to it (the same goes for wage deals offered) Not necesserily. Look at the Maynard situation for example, last time I heard he still hasn't signed a new contract with Bristol City, he's out of contract in the summer therefore clubs won't be offering what we offered in the summer and in my mind if I was Bristol City i'd be looking at him leaving for free in the summer and accept what I can. But the Sharp situation well yeah, £3m is what it is, I hadn't read or realised that was the get out clause fee.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 We will offer up to 30k in wages dubt Hull will be able to compete with that
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Good Player but we do need a mobile target man really? If we buy somebody else aswell then fine but like others have said he is too similar to Nuge
flowwolf Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 I have a feeling Sharp is a piece of a three part jigsaw. I don't think Nigel is looking to sign him with out at least two players to compliment the way he plays. Time will tell !
kingfox Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11681/7399641/Fulham-to-start-Sharp-scramble Fulham > Southampton > Leicester do we stand a chance now?
bluearmyfox23 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Wouldn't read to much into that because for 1) why would they offer more than 3m? 2) Fulham have plenty of strikers already if they have sharp we will have Johnson ?
Bettsj2 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11681/7399641/Fulham-to-start-Sharp-scramble Fulham > Southampton > Leicester do we stand a chance now? Nope
The Year Of The Fox Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 you crack me up Why? Cos we're "bigger"? Swannington FC could be in with a chance of signing him if we had £3m to offer
Tielemans63 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Wouldn't read to much into that because for 1) why would they offer more than 3m? 2) Fulham have plenty of strikers already if they have sharp we will have Johnson ? Eh? 1) Why wouldn't they bid more than £3mill? 2) Johnson and Zamora weren't in the squad v Chelsea and BZ in particular has been left out regularly. Not sure what Martin Jol's beef is with them but I wouldn't expect them to hang around, in which case Fham will def be in for a new striker - Sharp would be right in their price bracket.
Simo86 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Eh? 1) Why wouldn't they bid more than £3mill? 2) Johnson and Zamora weren't in the squad v Chelsea and BZ in particular has been left out regularly. If he has a release cause of £3 million in January, why would any team bid more?
ajthefox Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 His goals tally is decent and he's clearly good at this level but then I don't see him fitting in here. Nugent and Beckford can both score goals but we just aren't providing enough good chances. I don't know an awful lot about Sharp but I don't see this changing until we get our midfield sorted first.
bluearmyfox23 Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Yeah like simo said he has a clause of 3m and I wouldn't mind andy Johnson tbh, then we could also spend abit more on a winger or striker ?!
The Doctor Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 £3m is the get out clause for his contract. Doesnt really matter if he's worth that or not. If we want him, we have to pay at LEAST £3m. Err, no we have to pay at MOST £3m. If Donny are willing to sell for less than we can get him for less, but at £3m they can't refuse the offer and so we can speak to Sharp even if Donny would rather more money.
Jace Posted 28 December 2011 Posted 28 December 2011 Was tempted to start a Sharp signs thread when I saw this picture but then thought I am already unpopular enough!
ibbosuk Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 We will offer up to 30k in wages dubt Hull will be able to compete with that Southampton are offering him 20k now, and 40k if they get promoted, that's according to a poster on John Percy twitter
bridlington Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Hull fan here. Our local rag seems to think we genuinely have a chance... http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-14267745-detail/story.html I'm far from convinced we'd go anywhere near that much on anybody:
cc_star Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Southampton are offering him 20k now, and 40k if they get promoted, that's according to a poster on John Percy twitter S'ton have a rich owner, that sounds likely to me, they've just done things on the quiet rather than signing a world famous manager & then being linked with everyone from Beckham to Henry Along with the fact it's likely they'll go up so he he won't have to spend another season in the Champs... I don't fancy our chances if they really are after him
sphericalfox Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Fulham apparently have put in a £3.5m bid. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/7399641/Fulham-to-start-Sharp-scramble
Ric Flair Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 I'm surprised he's PL standard at the minute but if Fulham come in for him then that's the end of that. I hope we steal a march on some wingers and a playmaker instead.
Happy Fox Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 I will be actually glad if we don't sign him certainly not worth the wages we are offering for him haven't we learnt from before?
cc_star Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 I will be actually glad if we don't sign him certainly not worth the wages we are offering for him haven't we learnt from before? Wouldn't have thought so hence paying Beckford, Pantsil & Konch & co to step down a division and seeing off Wolves/Rangers in the fight for Mills/Danns etc What price someone who actually is cutting the mustard
Bert Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Err, no we have to pay at MOST £3m. If Donny are willing to sell for less than we can get him for less, but at £3m they can't refuse the offer and so we can speak to Sharp even if Donny would rather more money. But Donny aren't going to accept anything less than £3m, because they don't have to.
Lambert09 Posted 29 December 2011 Posted 29 December 2011 Too many clubs are after this chap, as soon as I heard about the clause I knew we wouldn't stand much of a chance. Would rather sign a player we need rather then one that is available. As good as Sharp is he isnt the player we need, quite obvious we need someone who is like Heskey...sadley it cant be him as he is injured for the whole of Jan so would fail a medical
