I don’t see how that would help

The Haymarket Theatre is shutting down/has shut down.

Wasn't it going to be a venue for e-sports?

It's not my thing but I thought it was an interesting idea and I was looking forward to seeing how it went.

They hosted the league of legends Eu masters there. Despite pretty decent feedback from some of the people that attended as fans I heard absolutely zero about any other esports events there. Maybe they are just crap at advertising though.

A shame imo, definitely an appetite for it, but Leicester struggles to draw anything in.

Yeah that's why I was a bit excited about it. Surely it will be a big thing in the coming years,

and it's a chance to draw in a whole new crowd right in the heart of the city. Plus it would help to fill all those new hotels being planned.

I presume it's because the people that we're leasing it from the council can't continue due to a lack of business because of corona

I'd expect plenty of empty student accommodation soon as University courses are going online. That could be a financial hit to the city.

What have Leicester said on this?

Plenty got suckered by headlines on this story, only lectures going on line.

I saw the article the other day about esports and thought it was a decent venue for that sort of event. I can’t imagine they draw massive crows, that would require a larger stadium / NEC type building.

I’m not sure why they’re building a massive hotel on Welford road if I’m honest. Who are they hoping to attract?!?

An investigation has been launched after a gun was fired at the door of a house in Oadby.

Armed officers with Leicestershire Police were called to a property in Ringer's Spinney following reports that a firearm had been discharged in the street.

A resident, who did not want to be named, filmed a short video of police activity in the area early yesterday evening.

He said: "I live around the corner and got a message through the local neighbourhood watch scheme that someone had reported hearing gunshots in Ringer's Spinney.

What are the police doing in your street?

"It was about 8pm on Friday and I went to see what was going on.

"When I arrived in the street I saw several police cars and vehicles, including a forensic scene of crime van."

He added: "They were focusing their attention on a house in the street. I spoke to a police officer who said that, although he couldn't divulge any details, it was a serious incident."

A police spokeswoman said detectives are investigating the incident, which had actually occurred in the early hours of Friday morning but was not reported until later in the day.

She said: "Detectives are investigating following damage to a property after a firearm was discharged.

"The incident, which occurred outside an address in Ringer’s Spinney, Oadby, is believed to have happened around 2.45am yesterday morning (June 12).

"It was reported to us shortly before 5.20pm."

She added: "The incident has caused damage to the front door of the property. No one was injured.

"A scene preservation is in place while detectives carry out enquiries at the address."

Detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or knows who was responsible, to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police 101 number.

I’ve been moved away from Leicester for about a year and just the other day I was driving across town through Beaumont Leys. The ring road was closed So took a detour that took me through Halifax Drive. When I lived in Leicester I’d drive down there weekly, but I don’t recall it being as bad as it was the other day. Looks really run down around there. There were houses which looked as though their roofs were caving in.

Some of the roads off Narborough Road are right shit holes. Plastic bottles rolling through the streets like tumbleweed.

Not just Narborough Road places like Narborough as well, I often take a walk through the Santander grounds public footpath I can be sure every day I'll see a bottle or a can lying in the grass along with other crap not forgetting poo bags and there's waste bins and dog bins a plenty. on the route.

I was on the cloud trail not so long back and every hedgerow was home to tonnes of plastic litter.

Really sad to see.

A 22-year-old man is in hospital after being shot in the leg during an incident in the Northfields area of Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said they were called to Victoria Road East in the early hours of this morning and a man was subsequently taken to hospital.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Not sure if it's a generational thing but when I was at school I always remember being taught about littering and throwing rubbish on the ground etc. To the point where I am a little shocked when I see someone throw rubbish on the floor or out of their car window.

The state of the streets and most of the walking paths through Leicester it makes me wonder if they are still taught about it at a young age. I think maybe not as most of my friends of a similar age are also shocked when they see the level of litter around - or could it budget cuts and bins being full etc. I don't know but it's certainly been noticeable the last few years.

I maintain the city isn't a dump but Bede Park is an absolute state this morning. Canal needs a good bloody clear out between Belgrave and Frog Island in all, no good making it a feature if you can't make out the water through the rubbish.

Birmingham gets a lot of stick. However the large percentage of their canals are well maintained.

Though I think it’s noticeable across the country in the last five years how budgets cuts have affected the upkeep of landscaping on roadways etc.  Overgrown grass, full bins, weeds growing everywhere

Well it's not that.

There's a few walks near me that I've been using regularly and there's plenty of waste bins and dog bins. I've seen stuff dropped with in a metre or two of those bins and they're certainly not full. Then there's all the tree trimmings with poo bags hanging from them. There's whole section of the population who are just too lazy or ignorant to care.

For example just yesterday there's a swing gated entrance to a walk a 100 metres from my house with a waste bin at the entrance just inside there's a little wooded copse and lying there was a large pizza carton and a couple of drinks cans, not 2 metres from the bin.

My colleague found a young girl's dead body down that "Black Pad" route in about 1986. :(
