He did well with Huddersfield in this division and I don't think anybody could have succeeded at Brum. Whether he'd want to go there is another matter though, thankless task to say the least. He took a while to get up at Huddersfield when they had plenty of resources and I don't believe nobody could have succeeded at Birmingham at all. People forget that half the Championship has no money, Birmingham are not a small fry punching above their weight. Clarke's record there especially at home was unacceptable. Coventry is perhaps his kind of job now.
