DennisNedry Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10287266/Alan-Hansen-to-leave-Match-of-the-Day-next-summer-after-22-years-as-leading-BBC-pundit.html I'm sure this will please quite a few people!
Fox92 Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 So he rejected the chance to become manager of Manchester City! Wonder what exact season that was. Anyway, I like Hansen, think he's ok. The trouble with programmes such as MOTD nowadays, is that they analyse everything far too much. It's quite easy to get bored of every pundit that appears.
Ric Flair Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 I love Hansen, he's fookin shit hot at golf an'all. So he rejected the chance to become manager of Manchester City! AKCJ Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 He's probably one of the better pundits to be fair. Shearer is the worst, by far.
Out Foxed Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 get rid of shearer and i might start watching motd again
lcfcsnow Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Are those moaning about Hansen and Lawro happy now we have the likes of Owen and Murphy on to replace them? Bbc should have ignored the complaints, people only moan for something to do at least it was interesting before.
Poznan34 Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 I prefer him to Mark Lawrenson, he's not the worst.

They completely over-do it and it gets worse/more tedious every year.
Leicesterpool Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Wonderful news, he always sounds soaked.
ousefox Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Shame. Always liked him and grown up seeing him on the tele every Saturday night.
Carl the Llama Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 He was the best of a bad bunch for a long time but he's been noticeably worse recently. MOTD will never have decent pundits when there's so much money in it at Sky, I just watch it for the highlights anyway.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Decent pundit who has slipped in recent years. People remember the gaffes unfortunately (such as his comments before the England-Germany match in 2010.) Twitter and forums tend to be viscous when discussing pundits. He seemed to work well when Lee Dixon worked with him before his move to ITV but in general at their peak Hansen and Lawrensen were a good duo. I rarely watch BBC pundits now which is a shame. Savage, Owen, Redknapp etc. Maybe we've been indulged with the likes of Neville and Souness (less so) on Sky who offer proper insight into the game. To be fair though how much analysis can you do on MOTD when you've got up to 8 games to try and review. There's only so much time the BBC pundits can spend on games before the show airs. Kevin Kilbane is the next rising pundit at the BBC, I hope he's the regular on MOTD to replace Hansen.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 He's pretty shit, I so hope they don't push Lawro to replace him.
BrummieFOX Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 I agree with that. They completely over-do it and it gets worse/more tedious every year. I don't think they analyse anything! They pretty much just state the obvious and explain what is happening over highlights of the game. They aren't real pundits, just ex-players that can waffle for a while and have 'banter'. Delighted he's going, hopefully Shearer follows soon, MotD has needed a shake-up for a while. Unfortunately I don't think the BBC will ever employ someone who genuinely knows their stuff.

I agree, I think they're getting confused with the Sky's broadcasting.
Bert Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 He's probably the best one there is, even though of a lot of the analysis is scripted.
Corky Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 He was at his best when MOTD had two main games a weekend- he could devote most of the punditry to those matches and go into detail, with just the goals from the other matches. Now, with coverage of all matches, you need to look at plenty of incidents in a short space of time and I don't think it's helped him. Far prefer him to Shearer, Savage, Owen and Lawrenson though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Get James Richardson doing MOTD 2 and I'd actually watch it. Used to love him and Gascoigne on Football Italia on channel 4.
ealingfox Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Pat Nevin is pretty good, personally hope he is the one who steps up. If it is Owen or worse or nearly as bad I think thats the end of me watching MOTD until we are ever in the Premiership again.
Stadt Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 The BT advert where Owen simply says "I've played in a few of those" is cringe inducing.
Kitchandro Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Hansen used to be great up until about 5 years ago. He was easily my favourite pundit on TV. Sadly he's got a bit senile in recent years, whinging like an old bloke and just generally talking crap. I think he's right in saying it's his time to go. I'm not warming to his and Lawro's replacements though, Savage is a twat and the rest have no charisma at all. Sky have gone for the new Hansen in Gary Neville whereas BBC are going for the new Leroy Rosenior. I know he's not MOTD but he's so crap I just have to bring him up. And Jaimie Redknapp. I hate Jaimie Redknapp.
