dmayne7 Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 You're right he hasn't been great this season. I won't deny that. Just makes me laugh how some people will use anything to make their argument stronger. The fans that go know who plays well and who doesn't. Just because a player is having a bad spell does that make them a bad player? No. It does if they play for Leicester
hackneyfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Seems that there are 2 extremes here (what a surprise), 'he's been shit for ages' or 'I don't care if he only scores penalties'. Both are daft points of view, he clearly needs to up his game at the moment and start scoring goals apart from penalties. His career with us has always had periods when he doesn't score and we certainly don't have 2 strikers bettter than him, buying a striker who is almost guranted to get 15 a season (without penalties) is difficult and expensive.
artursteppe Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 New striker partnership - King and Drinkwater.

As well as the transfer window being closed right now.
Kitchandro Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 As said previously. Of course Nugent is going to have his faults - else he'd be in the Premier League/Spain/Germany. All this "it doesn't count if..." is absolute tosh. If the ball goes over the line as a direct consequence of part of Nugent's anatomy coming into contact with the ball, then he's scored a goal right? Goals win games, couldn't give a flying wotsit if we didn't scored a goal from open play for the rest of the season, and only scored penalties and got promoted. I'm fairly sure nobody at the end of the season will say: "Yeah but, you can't get promoted because penalties don't count..." will they? Jeeeeeeeeeez. But you have to take the fact they are penalties into account. If Konchesky had taken and scored them all would you be calling for him to start up front? Scoring penalties (which you should be expected to score the majority of) doesn't mean you are necessarily playing particularly well. Nugent is a good player, the best striker at the club in fact but that doesn't mean he's undroppable. If Wood was fit I'd have suggested he was dropped several games ago.
deep blue Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 take nuge out and put who in This is the problem. Nuge is a good player but on a bad run of form at the moment; in the usual case you'd expect someone else to be given a try and Nuge put on the bench. But, just at the wrong time, we have Wood injured (and not looking in great form himself), Schluppy disappointing in his appearances so far, and Hopper not looking quite ready; so no obviously better option. But in 10 days time a lot could change: Nuge himself might be sleeping better (?), Wood should be fit and raring to go, Schlupp scored twice last night so maybe his confidence upped, and Hopper assisted in the win. Also, Vardy will have had a much-needed break. Ever the optimist!!

Sylvain EBanks-Blake still without a club ... This is the problem. Schlupp hasn't been given a chance and btw in the games he's scored 5 goals to Vardy's 6 in far far fewer chances as well, most of Jeff's games have come as a winger or full back
dog_4 Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Just a striker that scores every month will do! not go missing from start of february till the end of April. Like he's done the last 2 seasons. We need two loans a winger to provide a supply line and a striker. ie Larnell Cole and John Guidetti. Also Ebanks Blake must be back from injury soon and also out of contract. Time for a change, we're not achieving anything with players like Nugent. Stop bumming the same players when year after year we're not going anywhere.
whitlock Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Maybe that's the issue. No serious competition for his place?
ozleicester Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Sylvain EBanks-Blake still without a club ... have i missed something about Ebanks Blake? I thought he was a reasonable talent for the championship cant understand why no-one has signed him?
Finnegan Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 have i missed something about Ebanks Blake? I thought he was a reasonable talent for the championship cant understand why no-one has signed him? Major, major injury. Leg break I think? He's not even fully recovered yet, I don't think, let alone match fit.
Jimmy Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Major, major injury. Leg break I think? He's not even fully recovered yet, I don't think, let alone match fit. No reason we can't have him train with us in an extended trial
ozleicester Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Major, major injury. Leg break I think? He's not even fully recovered yet, I don't think, let alone match fit. Cheers.. I did miss that
Jimmy Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 I could be wrong but I believe he is now "Fit" as in he is able to train fully and play if picked but would obviously be below the rest in his match fitness
dog_4 Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Get Ebanks Blake playing some U21 games! He'd be grateful and we'd potentially have a top championship striker ready for the new year assault on promotion
svensson Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Get Ebanks Blake playing some U21 games! He'd be grateful and we'd potentially have a top championship striker ready for the new year assault on promotion What a ridiculous comment, there is a reason Wolves let him go. 5 years ago he would have been good for us.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 What a ridiculous comment, there is a reason Wolves let him go. 5 years ago he would have been good for us. Not the fact that he was out of contract, they couldn't afford to pay the wages of his expired deal (made whilst in the Prem) and also the small fact that he wanted to leave then?
svensson Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Not the fact that he was out of contract, they couldn't afford to pay the wages of his expired deal (made whilst in the Prem) and also the small fact that he wanted to leave then? Logical, lets get an ex prem mercinary in. We work well with players like that.
Gubbins Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Logical, lets get an ex prem mercinary in. We work well with players like that. You are aware that GingerrrFoxs post accurately describes are signing of Nugent right?
Fox92 Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 How long can people keep defending his performances? Never known of a striker to go on such a bad run and not get dropped. Who we going to drop him for? He's the best striker we have.
svensson Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 You are aware that GingerrrFoxs post accurately describes are signing of Nugent right? Fully, how very clever. Keep bandying the names around folks and living in the fantasy football world. Personally I will stick with Nuge, the guy is class for us throughout the course of a season.
norfolkfox222 Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Im sorry to say this, it will get people fired up but as a realist it is going to be hard for us to maintain a top 2 challenge with Nugent and Vardy as our 2 main strikers. Nugents been playing terribly (the games ive been too Derby Charlton Wigan and Doncaster are all im basing that on) Wigan game was his best but he should of easily scored 2 from open play that day. Vardy just doesnt score enough. Yes his effort is superb and the chances created from him are good, however a strikers job is to score goals. How much longer do you give him? I hope Chris Wood can find some playing time, confidence, balls played into his feet then goals will come from him im sure of it. Again tho another underperformer for some time. I would like to see a striker in on loan for if nothing else to keep Nugent and Vardy presured for their places, but who do you get? gamble on a youngster or some journeyman from a prem club? This isnt really meant for criticism and am very much hoping for them to both prove me wrong.
indierich06 Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 What a ridiculous comment, there is a reason Wolves let him go. 5 years ago he would have been good for us.The only reason Wolves let him go is because they were trying to cut costs and it wouldn't have made any sense to offer a contract to a striker who would request Championship wages and wouldn't be able to play until a few months after the start of the season. Ebanks Blake is a experienced championship striker and if he can recover from injury, he would be a very astute signing. Before his injury he managed double figures in that shocking Wolves side that got relegated - hardly washed up. He's certainly better than Vardy, Waghorn, Schlupp and arguably Wood, so if he can get fit again, I'd have him in a heartbeat. No transfer fee and relatively low wages makes it a no brainer.
65RosesFox Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Clearly I'm an optimist as I see it completely different to most. Nugent is having a bad spell, Vardy has improved and his work rate is second to none however not scoring enough, Wood is injured and his striking ability has been missing for months, Schlupp has not been given a chance but yet we're still sitting third in the table. With based on this topic the worst strike force in the league! I think this international break has come at the perfect time for our strikers. Vardy probably needs a rest for the amount of effort he's put in this season. Nugent needs to find his game. Get Wood back fit and maybe he might find the net again. And then we'll all probably find someone else to discuss and moan about.
