StanSP Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Let's kick-off 2014 the way we ended 2013! Another 3 points to add to the tally would be fantastic here. It'd make it 4 wins in a row and confidence would be sky-high for the 2 very important games thereafter - Stoke & Derby. Does anyone think Drinkwater may be rested for the New Year's Day match? He looked absolutely spent after about 80 mins. Not without reason, of course - he ran the midfield with James and those 2 have been playing extremely well. I know King away from home isn't especially great, but Nigel also has to think about looking after the players and obviously we don't want Drinkwater to be burned out because he's been one of the players of the season for me. Also, with Vardy suspended, how do we think we'll go up front? GTF/Nugent? Waghorn to come back in the frame? Schlupp?
foxfanazer Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Let's hope they don't appoint a new manager before this game! We should win this if we play to our strengths but it won't be easy. I'd say we really need Drinkwater for this one so maybe rest him for the Stoke or Derby game. I think we'll sneak a nervy 2-1 Sir Lloyd and Nuge with goals
MattyFromLE Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Think we'll go for: Kasper De Laet Moore Morgan Konchesky Knockaert James Dinkwater Dyer Waghorn Nugent Waggy will know Millwall's strengths and weaknesses, due a goal maybe too. Tough 2-1 win I feel.
Aus Fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 That's not a bad call resting Drinky but bring in Hammond, play a 4-3-3 with Hammond holding, king and James with Dyer and Knocky supporting Nuge. Scrappy 2-1 victory for me with Konch scoring a screamer in the last 10 after Nuge has given us an early lead.
cc_star Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Tough away game for us. Tempting to change formation to compete better, but when we do that we're never as good and defeat is probably more likely. Saying that, I'd just love to see a bit of experimentation (unless Warnock is in charge by then) Moore - Morgan - Miquel - Konchesky RDL - Drinkwater - James - Dyer Knockaert Nugent Either that, or slot Waghorn straight in for Vardy, we lose a bit of pace but we retain the work ethic and the team as a whole can continue business as usual. If it wasn't so important I'd love to give Nugent & Drinkwater an opportunity to sit one out
Happy Fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 4-3-3 should be perfect for this game. Kasper De Laet Morgan Moore Koncheskey Drinkwater King James Knockaert Nugent Dyer Subs: GTF, Waghorn, Schlupp, Wasyl, Hammond, Logan and Miguel

I'm still going and it'll be a laugh, but the leagues number 1.
StanSP Posted 30 December 2013 Author Posted 30 December 2013 Think we'll go for: Kasper De Laet Moore Morgan Konchesky Knockaert James Dinkwater Dyer Waghorn Nugent Waggy will know Millwall's strengths and weaknesses, due a goal maybe too. Tough 2-1 win I feel. On the other hand, Millwall will know all about Waghorn too...
RowlattsFox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 I reckon Nige will use vardy suspension to change to a midfield 3 with Hammond coming in.
lgfualol Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Gotta attackattackattack Kasper DeLaet Morgan Moore Konch Drinkwater James King Knocky Dyer Nuge Subs. Hammond, wasyl, logan, schlupp, waghorn, GTF, Miquel
theessexfox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Going to this. Think he'll go 4-3-3 though I'd love to see a 4-4-1-1 as cc_star put, with De Laet on the wing.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 4-3-3 should be perfect for this game. Kasper De Laet Morgan Moore Koncheskey Drinkwater King James Knockaert Nugent Dyer Subs: GTF, Waghorn, Schlupp, Wasyl, Hammond, Logan and Miguel This. Rather play this than 442.
sdb Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Controversial and the players might not appreciate it but i'd rest players for the Stoke game. We could put out almost a completely different XI - bar Kasper and a winger. We'd still have a chance too.
Joe Weetman Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Kaspar Moore Wasilewski Morgan Konch Knockaert King James Dyer GTF Nugent Taylor-fletcher might have a lot of confidence and experiance and play well, i would rest drinky for stoke or derby and king looks like he wants to fight for his place so he'll be putting in extra effort. I would rest de laet as we might not need hi. In a game like this and i would put wasyl centre back because he played well against millwall last time and he looks quite shakey at right back but hes a great centre back. Liam moore is in great form and hes a good right back just as he is centre.
Babylon Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Controversial and the players might not appreciate it but i'd rest players for the Stoke game. We could put out almost a completely different XI - bar Kasper and a winger. We'd still have a chance too. With the players looking a bit jaded and with the Derby game coming up I'd be inclined to agree, I usually don't mind a few changes but I think wholesale changes could be forgiven considering the hectic Christmas period and our position.
Bayfox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Yep resting players against uddersfield went well last year. Had to have a replay which we still lost and it lost our momentum. I would go 443 for this game. With hammond coming in for dd and king getting a game as well. james and hammond can protect the back 4. that way vardy and dd have had a rest before stoke. may be tempted to rest delaet as well with moore moving to rb and was in the middle against what will no doubt be a physical millwall side.
deanolegend1989 Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Everytime weve played 4 3 3 weve looked garbage..It doesnt work.
Babylon Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Yep resting players against uddersfield went well last year. So, just to get this right. You actually really think all of our problems stemmed from one game?
Dan Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Draw 1-1. I think Vardy's lack of presence will be telling. These are shit though. We need to go there with the belief that we're better because we really are. We often get bullied here and there's no excuses.
Dan Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 On the other hand, Millwall will know all about Waghorn too... "Right lads, today we know how to keep them from scoring, make sure we mark everyone and continue to leave Waghorn on his own in shooting positions"
TJB-fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Im a tad worried about the midfield in this one. If we can get our high tempo passing game going we will **** these up. However, they have been playing 433 recently with Guy Moussi, Liam Trotter and Jimmy Abdou as the 3 central midfielders. Although these aren't brilliant with the ball, they're all powerful and physical ball winners who imo could overrun our small midfield. just a thought.
Bayfox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 So, just to get this right. You actually really think all of our problems stemmed from one game? not necessarily. However pearson chose not to take it seriously. Rested too many players. then had to throw players on to try win it to avoid a replay. That didnt work either. so we ended up with another game we didnt really want. it broke up our rhythm and stopped our momentum. Maybe there is nothing in it but look at our run from that point on. this was a side we had stuck 6 past a few weeks earlier. We should have gone out got the job done and then made changes. I accept in modern football resting players is all the rage but for me keeping 8 or so regulars in the same team is a must. pearson then spent the rest of the season tinkering with the side and formations. And it took until the the last few weeks for us to get any rhythm back. you may or may not agree but a lot of people at Huddersfield agreed it was a bad decision. It is certainly were the problems stemmed from. If not the defining moment.
Simonb Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Same team for me with waggy replacing vardy due to suspension if we're a couple of goals up after 60min id take of drinky de laet n nuge to rest them all complete overhaul for Stoke I hope 3-1 city nuge waggy moore
StanSP Posted 30 December 2013 Author Posted 30 December 2013 "Right lads, today we know how to keep them from scoring, make sure we mark everyone and continue to leave Waghorn on his own in shooting positions" lol
Babylon Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Maybe there is nothing in it but look at our run from that point on. And yet the very next game we beat Wolves.
