VLC86 Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 I think we'll start to see movements on deals now Is that you?
hackneyfox Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 I don't get the concern over how much a striker costs. If he does the business and we finish well clear of relegation then he will have been worth anything up to £60 million. We are not on the verge of bankruptcy and we are not managed by Sven. I think we can all relax a bit about the financial side and let the staff at the club do the business. Agreed, we've got an extra £60m in tv income, surely all current salary increases will be covered, in the main, by increased ticket sales etc. Edited to add that doesn't mean I want us doing a Sven again but we do have serious wedge to spend.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 I'd never heard of Michu before he came to England, don't cry toddybad

Robin JD Popley Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 If we have managed to sneak under the radar with McCormack and Visca and anyone else who may yet sign for us, they all strike me as typical Nigel signings. He did say at the end of last season we will be signing people who either; 'Have played in top divisions, or, are exceptional talents' adding, 'Most you've probably never heard of'. Whilst neither of these have real experience in the top flight to the best of my knowledge (please correct me if I am wrong), we all saw what McCormack did in a poor Leeds team and Visca has been allegedly tracked by teams like Arsenal - a side who were also in for our own Tony K before we signed him. Remember, everyone, Lee Peltier has gone full circle back to Huddersfield; we are now being linked with the likes of Visca. For that reason, alone, I have very little doubt that Nigel and his staff (as they have done in the past continually) will find us some gems and we will be ok.

Season tickets will no where near cover the wages.

Last years promotion bonuses and the losses we are still running at could conceivably cost us £15/£20m of that £60m before you even factor in pay rises.
Babylon Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 22k season tickets at £600 is about 13m one player on 30k is 1,5m. Season tickets will no where near cover the wages. The majority cost nothing like £600, there are thousands of non paying kids, under 21's and seniors. Any extra money could perhaps only just cover the wages of the last accounts... We're still making big losses remember.

Surely the only way to get into a position where we are not making a loss is to stay in the PL for an extended period. This is the first time in 10 years we have been in this position, and, assuming top dollar isn't spent on the mediocre, it is a time to gamble and speculate on LCFC achieving an extended stay. We are in a unique position of being able to spend some cash without risking the club if it all goes belly up. We have the owners to thank for that.
ScouseFox Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 mccormack going to fulham for 10 mill apparently. just shy of what liverpool paid for sturridge. more than what liverpool paid for lambert. wtf are fulham doing.

Bayfox Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 mccormack going to fulham for 10 mill apparently. just shy of what liverpool paid for sturridge. more than what liverpool paid for lambert. wtf are fulham doing. I think it's called a qpr.
Father Ted Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 mccormack going to fulham for 10 mill apparently. just shy of what liverpool paid for sturridge. more than what liverpool paid for lambert. wtf are fulham doing. They paid £12 mil for Mitroglou. They'll have a £22 mil strikeforce in the Championship next season and still be nowhere near the play offs in my opinion.

ealingfox Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 How have we gotten to a place where relegated teams can afford to pay £10m for a player? Utter madness. These are clubs who are supposed to have a bit of soul left about them too, not a QPR or Cardiff. Financial Fair Play? Yeah fvcking right.

Bugger financial fairplay when you have £30m of parachute payments, same thing happened last year with Austin to QPR, that was around £8m wasn't it?
Babylon Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Surely the only way to get into a position where we are not making a loss is to stay in the PL for an extended period. Or to spend within your means. We are in a unique position of being able to spend some cash without risking the club if it all goes belly up. We have the owners to thank for that. Some cash yes, but I've seen comments since promotion from people expecting us to be spending £40/£50/£60m. Like I said, people forget we are already running at big losses.
RizLCFC Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 @SoriebahKajue: Fulham, Crystal Palace & Leicester all enquired about Efe Ambrose before the WC He's done reasonably well in this game. #FFC #CPFC #LCFC
Deucalion Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Or to spend within your means. Surely £10 million for a striker is well within our means as a PL club?
jammie82uk Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Surely £10 million for a striker is well within our means as a PL club? Maybe for a club that has been a PL club for more then a couple of weeks
J.Lisemore Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 McCormack is a player that would make more sense for Norwich and Fulham to be targeting, I doubt he'd be much good in the Prem.
Deucalion Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Maybe for a club that has been a PL club for more then a couple of weeks We'll have to agree to disagree.
Babylon Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Surely £10 million for a striker is well within our means as a PL club? Well if you are talking about spending within your means, you probably could yes. But look at Saints financial results after their first season back in the top flight, a loss of almost £10m and £27m still owing on transfer fees. I think people under estimate the increased costs associated with increased wages, bonuses etc.
