Jakemoore Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 No this isn't about invading the pitch against Donny, god knows that has been done! Apologise if this has already been posted! A pitch invader has paid the price for a £10 bet daring him to run onto the field of play during Leicester City’s league game with Sheffield Wednesday. Shaun Berry appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court following the ill-advised stunt, which happened during the Foxes Friday, April 4, fixture at the King Power Stadium. The 23-year-old, of Avenue North, Earl Shilton, was ordered to pay a total of £170 at a hearing on Thursday. He admitted a charge of going onto the playing area at a football match, a criminal offence under the Football (Offences) Act of 1991. Chris Burdett, prosecuting, told the court Berry ran onto the pitch at about 9.15pm during the evening game, which was broadcast live on Sky. It was shortly after Anthony Knockaert had scored from a free kick to put City 2-1 up – ultimately winning the match and securing promotion. “Mr Berry left his position in the stand and made his way to the playing surface,†said Mr Burdett. “He ran across part of the pitch, then was detained by stewards. “They were waiting for him on the other side, as they are trained to do, rather than run after him.†Mr Burdett said Berry was held in a holding area at the stadium before being arrested and interviewed by police. “During the interview, he gave a full admission to police about what he’d done and expressed regret for his actions,†Mr Burdett told the court. “He said he went onto the pitch for a dare, and his friends had bet him £10 to do it. “As I said, he expressed regret and has entered a guilty plea at the first time of asking.†Addressing the court, Berry, who was representing himself, said: “I’d just like to say that I am sorry. “I don’t normally go to football matches, I think this was the second or third time I’ve been. “I only went to the game because all my mates were going. I’m not a regular football goer.†Mr Burdett told the court the defendant had no previous convictions for similar football related offences, but said police were requesting a football banning order be made against him - which would mean not being allowed to attend regulated football matches in England and Wales for up to five years. However, magistrates did not impose a ban. The £170 he was ordered to pay is comprised of a £65 fine, costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge. Sentencing Berry, magistrate Ljubica Kendall told him: “We are not going to give you a banning order. “But you must be aware that you cannot behave like that, particularly when a match is in progress.†She added: “You said you don’t go very often to football matches, and you should stick to that.†When Mr Burdett asked for an explanation of the decision, which is required under the legislation, Mrs Kendall said: “We feel that it is not proportionate to make this order. “The defendant is not a regular attendant of football matches, has no previous convictions of this kind and no violence was involved.†She added: “He said he was sorry immediately and has pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.†Read more: http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Leicester-City-pitch-invader-pays-heavy-price-10/story-21013572-detail/story.html#ixzz2zuF2s1Fp

Gary Eatfood Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 and a £20 victim surcharge. Does this money go to the pitch? Poor blades of grass that were victimized.
Brooksy Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 I thought he ran on at the end of the game? Think that was the Brighton game.
MGLCFC Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 Think that was the Brighton game. Yes it was - thanks
Stadt Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 "But you must be aware that you cannot behave like that, particularly when a match is in progress." So it's ok after the game? Tell that to the club.
AndWhat? Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 “But you must be aware that you cannot behave like that, particularly when a match is in progress.†That's almost a hint that it's fine do it when the game has finished!! And shame on the police for trying to bulk up their figures by trying to get this guy a banning order.
MrSpaM Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 Who exactly is the £20 victim charge going to?!? Top?!?

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 That's almost a hint that it's fine do it when the game has finished!! And shame on the police for trying to bulk up their figures by trying to get this guy a banning order. Get knotted.
Voll Blau Posted 25 April 2014 Posted 25 April 2014 I'd imagine he was told to see he doesn't go very often by his solicitor. Admitting to being a regular attendee would've probably increased the magistrates' chances of accepting the banning order.

Addressing the court, Berry, who was representing himself, said: “I’d just like to say that I am sorry.
