I CAN'T quite believe my eyes when I look at the final Championship table and see Nottingham Forest finished a staggering 37 points behind champions Leicester in 11th.

I'm not having a go at the Foxes, I think they are worthy champions.

With over 100 points, they have had a great season and deserve to get into the Premier League.

But don't tell me they are that much better than the Reds because they're not.

In fact, we should have beaten them twice this season.

It might have been a bit of a smash-and-grab 2-0 win at Leicester back in November, but it was still a victory.

And Forest should definitely have beaten them at the City Ground in February instead of having to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Those two games show exactly how the Reds compare to Leicester on their day, so the big gap in points between the two clubs over 46 games is frustrating.

But while the Foxes were consistently winning games and earning points in their march back into the top-flight, Forest let themselves down badly in games you would expect them to have won easily.

Look at Yeovil away. Defeat. Blackpool at home. Defeat. Barnsley away. Defeat. Charlton at home. Defeat. Millwall at home. Defeat.

They are five games the Reds should have won and with an extra 15 points, while they would still not have challenged Leicester for the title, they would have cruised into the play-offs.

Instead, they finished outside the top ten because they were not consistently at the top of their game, they weren't relentless enough to go out and win all the games they should have done. That's the bottom line.

Forest have certainly got good players, but for whatever reason they didn't do the business week in, week out.

What makes it even more annoying is that twice now in the last two seasons clubs have come to the City Ground on the final day and beaten the Reds to seal a place in the play-offs.

It was Leicester last season and the other day it was Brighton. Talk about rubbing salt into the wounds.

And as they've celebrated finishing in the top-six and left Nottingham dreaming of promotion, Forest fans have had to stomach seeing their own side staying in the Championship for another season when they want to be going to places like Old Trafford, Anfield and Stamford Bridge.

Hopefully this time next year it will be different. Hopefully we will be the ones celebrating – and not just finishing in the play-offs, but automatic promotion.

That is certainly what is going to be expected of new boss Stuart Pearce and the team he builds over the summer.

I'm already looking forward to next season, I have to say.

A new manager, there will be new players and hopefully a new spirit at the club because let's be honest there have been more lows than highs in the past 12 months.

I'm looking forward to seeing who Pearce keeps and who he lets go, who he signs, which strikers we get – and I hope he makes a prolific frontman his top priority.

I'm looking forward to seeing how players like Henri Lansbury, Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles progress, who is going to follow in their footsteps by making the step up into the first team, how the team is going to play.

The atmosphere for that first home game with Pearce in the dugout is going to be pretty special – and I hope the whole season will be.

In all honesty there's not that much wrong with this article, buthe has spouted some bollocks about us over the years.

Forest have under-achieved big time this season. Their squad is amongst the top 6 in the division but they crumbled, simple as that.

Posted

He isn't that far wide of the mark, as proved by previous season. The championship is a highly competitive league and it just shows the mental strength our guys had to have, to sustain the level of performances week after week.

"But don't tell me they are that much better than the Reds because they're not".

Erm...look at the table Kenny...we really are!

Posted

Let's be honest, how many papers would he sell if he said we were clearly better than them and they have a lot to do next season?

The season has finished, the club needs to raise expectations and sell more season tickets

Posted

There's nothing wrong with that article, the only thing I don't agree with is "But don't tell me they are that much better than the Reds because they're not."

When a competition is played over 40+ games (38 in the PL obviously), then the best team always wins the division. The worst teams are relegated. A team might have an off day, as we did at Charlton and Doncaster etc, but overall consistency and prevails which is why the best team finishes top, and rightly so. The league table at the end of the season never lies.

To be fair, he is well wide of the mark. Leicester have a squad of players with a team ethic, who work together and play together. Forest remain an expensively assembled bunch of footballers. The gel is not there. They are miles off achieving what leicester have.

I would say they are similar to when Sven had us. Their strike force is appalling, and it's already proved that without Reid or Lansbury they can't function. Take drinkwater and James out of our midfield and you have King and Hammond, better than most midfields in the league anyway.

Sorry kenny, you are simply a bitter cock! You can't measure how good two teams are based on 2 hotly contested derby games.

Forest are a minimum 2 years away from where we are, and probably 3 or 4 now they have appointed such a poor manager as well!

Cheers kenny you bell end!

It's fair enough to point out that Forest have underachieved and to speculate where they might have finished without their injuries. The big error with the article is making reference to games against us to illustrate his point. At best that's naivety - at worst stupidity!

It's a bit like Doncaster saying they only lost to us narrowly and beat us a home so they should have been a lot closer to us at the end of the season.

Forest finished much closer to Yeovil at the bottom than to us at the top. Over a season they have been a million miles away from us.

I do think it's part of the Forest's fans psyche to look at would've, should've and could'ves rather than facing up to the reality of the situation.

"But don't tell me they are that much better than the Reds because they're not".

Kenny you blind tw@t - we really are. Two games in a season where

a) you were totally outplayed at the KP but parked the bus after scoring 2 goals with your only attempts on target

b) drawing 2 - 2 against 10 men for a third of the game and it was Leicester pushing for the win at the end

doesn't not constitute that Forest were anywhere near our class.

Kenny we won the league by a huge margin - listen to Mr. Dyche. We are the market leaders and have been throughout 2014.

Posted

All this hypothetical claptrap. Should've, would've, could've... Listen, Kenny: Facts dont't lie, the table doesn't lie and when you mourn Forest finishing outside the playoff places, it's because the team as a whole, individual players, the manager(s) and/or the work ethic in general just weren't good enough over the course of one entire football season.

Goodnight and goodbye, Mr. Burns.

Posted

I think he's saying Forest raised their game against us and then why didn't they raise it at other times. Their inconsistancy of selection, not always due to injury meant they would never get a strong cohesive core like we have and I'd question whether there's eleven let alone 18 players who are good enough to top a league on their books.

Are you being serious?

Come off it, saying we're not much better than them is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. We had off days against them, that's what he doesn't seem to realise.

Every time I've seen them this season they've looked shit, they haven't got a decent striker, they've been playing a bloody defender up front FFS. Without Reid they're a nothing side.

Don't do us a disservice, we're a much better side than Forest in pretty much every way.

The bitterness in that article brought a big smile to my face.

Sad, bitter inbred scum.....keep on telling yourselves that we're not much better than you.

But never forget.

We're Leicester City, we're all on our own. ........

Burns has called us worthy champions and said that we deserve to be in the Premier League.

He's just questioning why Forest were so far behind and only finished a pitiful 11th, (below Bournemouth hoho).

Relax and enjoy the Bank Holiday.
