Future England right back so compared to Shaw he is cheap

He also counts as a home grown player in relation to FFP which is massive going forward for teams like Arsenal

Still ridiculous paying £16 million for a lad who's made on 21 premier league appearances.

£46 million for Callum Chambers & Luke Shaw. Frightening

Got to feel for Saints fans. Watching one of the most talented teams in their history bring ripped apart in a matter of weeks must be very painful. It's going to be extremely difficult to replace the talent they've lost even with all that transfer cash.

Does make you wonder whether this might happen to us if the likes of Drinky, James, Knocky and Mahrez smash it in the prem.

It could happen to us but on the plus side that means we'd have had a great season this season and we would get ridiculous money for our players. Would obviously want us to keep hold of them but it can't be bad for the club

But is this down to the board not fighting to keep the players? Plus once you start to lose a couple of players, others start to see the team breaking up which can lead to them looking for a move. Just think if we'd sold kasper and Vardy early in the window would the others have been so quick to sign new contracts?

This is also true. There's not an awful lot clubs of our stature can do about it in all honesty

16mil is crazy for callum chambers considoring jordi alba cost barcalona 11.5mil and that straight was after he won euro2012 with spain

Maybe but they're probably buying a player for life, if he turns out, and who's going to question Wenger on youth players?

If they ever do sell him it'll probably be for profit.

I feel this will always happen. Youth players get developed then the 'bigger' teams just roll up with £20million/£30million, and they're gone. Some of them seem to disappear as well, what ever happened to John Bostock? Once promised so much at Palace, yet Spurs come along and take him away and now he's re-building his reputation. Even when the likes of Manchester United come after a young player, I do think sometimes staying at his current club maybe better for his career. Look at Le Tissier.

I don't think many Southampton youngsters are going to have too many concerns about joining Arsenal. It's turned out alright for Theo and The Ox so far. I suppose they might be a little worried of becoming injury prone though!!!

Southampton still have a cracking team if you think about it (I'm including the possibilities chambers, Lovren and scr--- whatever his name leave)

Boruc

Clyne yoshida fonte targett

Jwp wanyama cork

Ramirez pelle tadic

For me their only weakness is the defense, although apparently their close to signing a lb (rojo) and they've got a lot to spend, so no doubt they'll sign more. If anything I think while the fans are rightfully angry, they've got so much money to spend they should perhaps be excited.

I think they'll stay up with the team above quite comfortably nvm if they invest a little

the fee for chambers is rising to 16m, not 16m now. it'll depend on his apps, his england caps, any injuries etc over probably the next 15 years.

For those who have not seen Premiership football at the KP stadium , the big difference will be the away following which will for most games be full and very noisy . Which at least should make for a better atmosphere. So it's up to us to step up to the mark and show them we are more than capable of backing our team to the full. So lets all sing our hearts out and be more than a match for the away fans. :scarf::scarf::scarf::scarf::scarf:

we have only been in the championship at the king power?

Must be a bummer to have such a great season and then watch all your players leave.

It's shite really. There's a glass ceiling in the Premier League. You'll only ever sustain anything if you've got money behind you.

Cannot see Southampton building a team as good as last years even with that kind of money.

The over-pricing of English players gets more and more ridiculous every single year. If Drinkwater, James or Moore have strong seasons next year they could be getting linked with teams for £15/20mil and I'm not even joking.

I'd like to think of myself as quite acquainted with top level Football, but I genuinely have never heard of this Chambers lad.

The money is absolutely scandalous and anyhow at his stage of development, he'd be 100x better off at Southampton, it's no wonder that English players never quite make it.

Southampton's problem will be starting from scratch even if the invest all the money in buying quality they have new owners a new manager new players it is going to be tough. This all started when the owner left if he had stayed pochettino would have stayed, and probably convinced a few others to stay. But why would Shaw, Lallana, Lambert, Lovren, Chambers and the rest show any loyalty to a manager and an owner they don't know.

They really need to hit the ground running if not doubts will set in and they will be screwed.

Remy to Liverpool is off after he failed his medical. Apparently he has some heart condition and has failed medicals in the past. Surely you'd look at the fact he done ok in his career up to now and it doesn't seem to have affected him.

I think its more for insurance reasons

I get why you'd turn down a deal after a players fails a medical

But it's not like it's a dodgy knee or and torn hamstring, this is something he's always had and it caused him no trouble in his career thus far, and at the age of 27 he's someway through that career. Whilst it's clearly not perfect, after over a decade of playing professional football without it fairing up, you'd think they'd accept the slight risk.

absolutely no chance, a problem with your heart? if it was me I would be telling him to stop playing, let alone trying to sign him!

Is it always the fault of the clubs, though? It'd be easy to blame 'Spurs for Bostock's career plateauing and it could well be their fault for not looking after him right, HOWEVER on the other side of the coin he might've just been overhyped and quite simply made out to be a better prospect than he actually was. It wouldn't be the first time a young English player gets hailed as a prodigious talent to then achieve not all that much in the game.

Let's not be silly here, he might not be a first team regular at the Emirates but it's arguably the best of the traditionally "elite" clubs in the country to be at in terms of how he'll be managed and bought on. As Ric Flair mentioned earlier, it's not done Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain any harm whatsoever. He'll be getting a level of coaching and training a class apart from that at Southampton, no doubt - it's not all about minutes on the pitch.

I think it's a fantastic move for him, Wenger doesn't splash out that amount of coin without reason and I really think he'll nurture him into a top class full back.

Nobody has told him to stop yet have they. Clearly not a major problem.

That's how we got Frankie Worthington he failed a Liverpool medical and I think it was a heart condition and he's still going strong which is good going considering his lifestyle.
