Robin JD Popley Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Hypothetically, at least the following five names could be added to our matchday squad by the end of January, if done deals/likely deals come off... Schwarzer, Cook, Naughton, Lennon, Defoe. I know we are only a day into the window and more names will emerge as the month passes more than likely, but, surely these names are more inspiring than who we were linked to and getting in the summer overall bar Leo and Cuchu?
Jace Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe, Lennon, Naughton anyone else seeing a pattern?
les-tah Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe is a great professional and not a brat. This is why nige will be all out to make it happen!
Buzzell Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 The guy has the experience and a goalscoring record at this level. Get him in.
Callabinho Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Anyone who says no to Defoe is bloody clueless.
Bamba's Babes Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Remember, the money Defoe recieves is not your money. Remember, when we got promoted we recieved a significant bump in financial income. Remember, the cost of relegation is more than Defoe's wages and transfer fee combined. Remember, Ulloa has scored 7 goals. Nugent, Vardy and Wood combined have managed just 4 goals. Jermain Defoe is a significant upgrade on our current strikers. We cannot afford to not make a move for the player.
ousefox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Nugent and Defoe were lethal together for England...
Deucalion Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 In the Summer there was a debate about whether to splash the cash or not. I was on the side of splashing. The reason being, not splashing the cash could cost the club more in the long run. There are no guarantees we would be promoted again quickly. So if the management think he will improve the squad, I have no problem with spending the cash. The only difference now is that we need to be more careful with clauses to ensure we can release them cheaply if we do get relegated, which is more likely now than it was in the Summer.
Matt Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Struggling Leicester City are reportedly on the verge of making two early signings in the January transfer window, which could see keeper Mark Schwarzer and striker Jermain Defoe moving to the King Power Stadium early next week. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11712/9630038

Stuntman_Mike Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe, Lennon, Naughton anyone else seeing a pattern? Racist.
Guest Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 We need to strike early. We're less likely to get players later in the window.
Robin JD Popley Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 4-9 on Skybet now...Had drifted out to 7-2 a day or two back! ...And Zarate is set to join QPR from West Ham on loan, a signing made against Big Sam's wishes - so the pieces are falling into place.
VLC86 Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe, Lennon, Naughton anyone else seeing a pattern? Racist! Been beaten to it
Babylon Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Look, like any signing it can work or not work. Yes he's 32 which probably increases your chances of it not working, yes he'll be on good money... but on the flip side it would be a shortish contract which lessens the costs you could be open to with a 3.5 / 4 year deal. Plus 32 isn't exactly the grave yard these days, Van Persie is only 10 months younger. So long as the squad isn't made up of 30+ players then it can help having some experience in there. We all know we're lacking premier league experience in the team.

Its also good to have these kinds of players in the dressing room, they have bags of experience and will teach most of our players a few things with it being the majority's first season in the PL
Guest Bilo Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I wish people could make their minds up. One minute we're all saying we need Premier League experience, but as soon as we look like signing a player who has stacks of it, he's too old and on too much money. Defoe is a proven goalscorer, I was surprised to see him go to the MLS so early and it looks to me as though he regrets the move. He knows he'll get regular football here and is clinical enough to make the most of some of the chances we create. Would we have lost to Tottenham with Defoe on the pitch after dominating them and creating numerous chances? I would suggest we wouldn't have. If his goals earn us five or six points by the end of the season, he could easily keep us up. I say bring him in. That'll be one striker down, we may need another one and some defensive strengthening. It's a busy January ahead, folks.

Lineker's Left Foot Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 The way people are slating Defoe is laughable. He is a goal machine, although some say is a lazy player. AnywAy could be worse, we could be after Michael Chopra - like Cov are
phildw Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 This statement from the Gaurdian article is the biggest worry regarding the possible transfer 32 year old. "But he ran out of steam, he suffered from injury and he missed matches" Especially for the ridiculous amounts of money he will command. But if he keeps us up happy days!
BlueJoe Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Well come on, you can't honestly think having Defoe up front is the same as having Vardy up front. Ever seen Vardy do this? He does that all the time on FIFA... He must be able to do it in real life!!!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe is the ideal player to try and get, but if 'Arry wants him, then I'm afraid he will get him. Very frustrating, if that is the case.
