Robin JD Popley Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 For what it is worth, some of my family live in Ontario and Toronto is obviously the 'soccer' team closest to them (although they all support Leicester, bar my Uncle who is a Grimsby fan...I know, someone has to). They take a newspaper called the Hamilton Spectator and it is a very good source of news from what I have been told. Here is a report from that same paper, written on 31st December 2014, which suggests that QPR are out of the running. I know they site London at the top of the article but it would appear that Harry, himself, knows it is unlikely and I doubt Rodgers would want to bring Defoe in when he has said himself he may have a quiet January plus their scouts would probably look elsewhere. http://www.thespec.com/sports-story/5238150-redknapp-says-defoe-may-be-too-expensive/ (The Guardian don't usually print nothing stories either...well, at least where Sport is concerned).
Jace Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I have to admit unless we start raising the stakes of what we are willing to pay players we will not see a very long term future in this division. £75,000 a week is not a big number in the Premier League any longer rediculious I know
jimmeh Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Knowing our luck he would get injured in his first game
Deucalion Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I wonder whether we are such a hard sell as people think? A brief look at the table and we don't look like a good prospect, but anyone analysing our performances must notice the amount of chances we create and miss. A decent striker might fancy themselves to do better with these chances?
Dickov22 Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe no thanks. 32, playing in a crap league, injury prone and will command huge wages. Hope it's not true
MGLCFC Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe no thanks. 32, playing in a crap league, injury prone and will command huge wages. Hope it's not true Cottee 34, playing in some crap league in Asia did the business. Personally, if you look at Defoe and ask who else is out there that has been successful at this level, it may just well be worth the risk, particularly on a short term contract with the option to extend if we stay up.
NeilLCFC Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe no thanks. 32, playing in a crap league, injury prone and will command huge wages. Hope it's not true Clueless.
nettle Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Just what we need a bit of quality let's hope he can get fit and stay fit.
Cat Burger Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Defoe no thanks. 32, playing in a crap league, injury prone and will command huge wages. Hope it's not true Yeh, let's stick with Vardy...by the end of the season he might score another one! (I know there's more to Vardy's game, but seriously, Defoe has 124 Prem goals and 19 England goals)
The Guvnor Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 A fit Defoe would have in a heartbeat, one that is not match fit and injury prone, no thanks!
AyewJoking Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Dont want him, if he's the best we can get then we are truly fúcked!
davieG Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Harry wants him so he must be a no brainer to sign.
RowlattsFox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Would prefer a loan, we don't want to be stuck with him.
5waller5 Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 If Harry wants him we are going to have to pay top Dollar.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Does Arry still want him? Course he does, he wants anyone with 2 legs if they're available
AyewJoking Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Course he does, he wants anyone with 2 legs if they're available rules de foe out then
Fox92 Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Still not sure what to think. 32 is still a decent enough age if he still knows where the net is, obviously he does looking at his MLS record and although the standard of the league is very different players don't lose their footballing brain. But on the other hand he is injury prone and will command a lot of money.
Carlos88LCFC Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 How can people say we are ****ed if we get Defoe. Every time I saw him play he looked like scoring! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

artursteppe Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Interviewed in October by the Guardian about his situation at Toronto. Now the Guardian are saying he is coming to Leicester. Seems to have some credibility to me.
Xen Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Kevin Phillips signed for us when he was 40 and still managed to put in good performances, with most on here happy we signed him. Defoe is 8 years younger, just as good at finishing (probably better over recent years) and has won far more England caps. The only downside to this is that he'd probably command a high salary. And to compare, KP scored 92 PL goals in 10 seasons. JD got 123 in 13. Very similar records. I'd be VERY happy with this signing, provided we can knock a few K off his wage bill. And given that he's unwanted in Toronto and we're seemingly the only club with a serious interest in signing him, that should be doable. If he's on £75k atm, £50k should just about be negotiable?
