French referee Remi Harrel has been barred from European games after his controversial handling of Leicester's UEFA Cup tie.

Harrel infuriated Leicester boss Martin O'Neill when he turned down three penalty appeals and sent off midfielder Garry Parker during City's home clash with Aletico Madrid.

It prompted O'Neill to say afterwards: "I thought it was a match we could not win," as Madrid went on to secure a 2-0 victory and knock Leicester out of the competition 4-1 on aggregate.

Now UEFA have said Harrel will not take any more Euro games this season. O'Neill launched a stinging attack on the ref, but escaped disciplinary action after explaining his comments.

Leicester chairman Tom Smeaton said: "I am pleased that UEFA have taken our views of what happened seriously and looked into the referee's performance.

Just for info on Remi "Jesus Gil in disguise" Harrel

Me, every sunday morning.  So I am reliably informed, however the one they had last week was even worse.

Remi Harrell was a lesson in how not to further your career as a ref though.  I seem to recall it was his last european game.  I don't think there was anything underhand about it.  The Parker incident, he told him to wait for the whistle and Parker took it quickly.  Harrell decided he was taking the p.  Booked him and realised it was his second.  Most refs would have known he was on a booking and given him a bit of a talking to, but then there are those out there who would say that that is cheating and refs should be consistent.

There are times though when I look at a decision and I've no idea why or how they've made the decision they have.

Clearly the Madrid game one of the worst, but I never liked Howard Webb. Thought he favoured the so called bigger named clubs.

Also, his appalling penalty decision at Cardiff in the 2nd leg play-off at their place was a disgrace, with the Cardiff forward running from a clear offside position prior to winning the penalty. I have always blamed Webb for denying us a place at Wembley.

Not Kermorgant? And why Webb - was he the assistant that game then?

There was nothing wrong with the ref at Chelsea, it was last week where we got stitched up.

Well, UEFA thought there was.

I'll get upset with a ref every now and then but it never sticks with me where I can say, oh wow, this guy was the absolute worst. Maybe Uriah Rennie because its the first name that pops to mind when I think shit ref.

I'm pretty sure Harrell sent off an atletico player long before he sent off Parker which sort of damages the bent ref theory. He's still an utter c@nt though. Gotta say I did have a particle of sympathy for Mike Read. He took a ton of abuse from all quarters for that Chelsea penalty and while he deserved a lot of it it's typical of football that the real villain of the piece, that diving cheating Chelsea scumbag Erland Johnsen, got away with barely a word said against him.

Over the last 50 years I have been to hundreds of City games. I was thinking about the worst ref I have seen. The City vs Athletico Madrid game at Filbert St in 1997 takes some beating. The ref was called Remi Harrel, he sent Gary Parker off for taking a free kick too early and denied City 4 of the clearest pens you have ever seen. Nearly 17 years later, I am still mad about it. Martin O'Neill described it as the worst performance by a ref he had ever seen.

When I saw the topic he was the first ref I though of,didn't he get banned from reffing Uefa cup games after that by Uefa??

Has to be Jon Moss for that inept display of officiating at Forest.

2 nil up and cruising, gives them a peno for absolute fvck all, sends Kasper off for throwing the ball toward the centre circle and then misses the blatant push on Konchesky for their equalizer.

Forest away, Billy Davies did a job on the ref at half time. Came out possessed and sent Kasper off.

When Kasper was sent off McLaren was Forest manager.

but Jon moss was disgraceful that day

I remember the referee at Brighton away one year being very card happy and stoping the game at every possible opportunity! He stopped it so often I remember it getting to the stage in the second half where everyone in our end was hurling abuse his way every time he blew his whistle come about 65 minutes.

I think 3 players were sent off - Beckford for foul and abusive language, Danns for two bookable offences (one of which was very dubious if I remember rightly) and a Brighton player. Beckford's ban was overturned anyway! We must have clocked a record count for that "we always get shit refs" chant that day.

Would I be right in saying we finished the game with 9 men as well as that Nathan Delfouneso came off injured about 2 seconds after coming on? Will Buckley scored late on and Ben Marshall had a great chance at the end but with 10 men vs 9 men the space opening up in injury time was ridiculous. Poor game, shite ref and bloody freezing to boot!

Andrew Haines, Middlesborough away 3-3. He was utter guff.

Nigel Miller is also a first class idiot when he refs us.

I had a season ticket when we played Madrid in the UEFA Cup that year, if i remember rightly didn't he send one of their players off first? then he booked Gary Parker for a second time sending him off, i dont know if he was paid off or if he was just a awful ref or both but that game always stuck in my mind

The Mike Dean FA cup Semi Final replay was just a horrible decision in the last minutes giving them a pen when it was a clear dive but i cant really remember his overall performance, it was horrible because we were 2-0 down at home and came back to get a draw and a replay, Frank Sinclair scored a own goal if i remember rightly, he went on to score a few for cracking OG's when he played for us.

The game at filbert street was my first experience of football violence  there must have been 50 Chelsea fans sitting in the Kop that celebrated when they scored i was only around 14 at the time but scared the hell out of me can remember 2 Chelsea guys getting the shit kicked out of them 10 seats away from me it eventually spilled onto the pitch and they ran away it was mayhem

Yes I remember the Chelsea game and the trouble. Some scummy Chelsea fan right in front of me gobbed over the side of the Carling Stand on to some fans below.

As one of the posts above says, Mike Reid got unbelievable abuse after the replay when Johnson was the real culprit. I remember Danny Baker saying on radio we should picket Reid's house which is pretty scandalous thinking back.

Without doubt the Ref in the Atletico game, he was if I recall suspended by FIFA UEFA for his performance during this game.

Also who other than of course "My mates the ref" Gavin Ward.

He was indeed awful.

Agree with Mike Reid and Harrell but those old enough may remember a 2-3 defeat by Oxford in league cup around 1986-87 Dean Saunders handling the ball onto Shelton for the winner. I have never seen so much hate towards a ref, covered in spit as he went down the tunnel at filbert st.

I'm still angry about that Athletico ref, even after all these years.

I echo the Gavin Ward shout, and I'll also add Jonathan Moss (one of the top refs in the country apparently :o ) and Darren fecking Deadman to the list.
