Wasyl's Elbow - What's the fuss? No ban.

I'm with Dan LCFC on this one. It must be the 5th or so time he's done it. Plenty of us said he'd be a liability in the Prem because of the nature of the post match analysis on incidents. Doesn't matter how well he plays, if he continues to play like a thug it'll cost us big time. I'm not having people finding it funny that he did that to Berahino. It was disgusting.

It's a sad state of affairs that we started a Premiership game with him in the side in my opinion. Don't know why we didn't strengthen more in that area over the summer. If he gets banned we are left with a subs bench consisting of no centre halves. Well done Wasyl.

For crying out loud.

He was our best player on the pitch, Berahino is unhurt, just a bit rattled, which is good. Wasyl kept him quiet.

Didn't get spotted by the ref, he almost never does, never been red carded, often doesn't even get booked.

Was solid, composed on the ball, what more you want? It's not like he's deliberately tried to break someone's legs and given his history I doubt he ever would.

Agreed in the most part, certainly he was the best player on the pitch. The problem is he doesn't look like he'll get away without a ban for this one, in which case it's a daft thing to do.

He's got a knack of getting away with things on the pitch, but with the extra scrutiny in the Premier League he can't carry on throwing elbows at people and expect to get away with it retrospectively.

Do you think he'll get away with no ban? Just wondering.

True, he was by far our best player.

We looked as solid as I have seen us all season. The goal we conceded was very unlucky.

Talk of him being a disgrace is stupid, just people lashing out at someone as we are on a bad run.

He was solid and the elbow was stupid, but how stupid will only be apparent after the game is reviewed.

I would leave him in ahead of Liam for a few weeks to see how he settles, an ugly hard bastard is sometimes a useful tool, especially against pretty boy strikers that have forgotten what a crunching tackle is really like.

When i saw the replay on the stream.. i fully expected that he will get a ban

I'm not lashing out at him. I've said that he played well, he was better than Liam has been recently and made us look more solid. He's completely let us down though, because I'm pretty sure he'll get banned now. He could have quite easily got a red on the day. Why does he do it?

I thought Lescott was MOTM, and head and shoulders above everyone in terms of quality.

For us, MOTM was Wasyl IMO. Keep him in.

He doesn't elbow someone every six games, he's played 31 games for us now and I believe this is the 2nd time that people have commented on "elbowing" an opposition player. He's a physical player that uses his upper body strength to manoeuvre opposition players to gain an advantage. Yesterday he didn't deliberately elbow Berahino, he put his arm out to shield the ball and gain a positional advantage. There was no intent, he didn't cock his arm back or even raise his elbow particularly high, Berahino ran into Wasyl's arm.

You need to have a look at how some of the best defender's use their upper body strength to come out on top in games. Maldini was brilliant at it as was Jaap Stam.

Correct - he roughs players up, but besides the forearm smash on Antonio when we played Wednesday at home last season, I don't remember him actually doing something violent.

if the ref aint seen it then the FA cant take action can they?

Or am i wrong as usual???

I think it's the opposite. If the ref sees it and deals with it they can't be any further action. However he didn't see it, so I think there can be

correct, if the ref doesn't write it up in his post match report then the FA can take aciton.

However as far as I am aware if he writes it up in the report and said he seen it but did not think it was an elbow then the FA cannot take aciton.

I still haven't seen the repplay, has anyone got a link?

Exactly.

Some people on here probably love the amount of free kicks and dives that are in the game today. Go and play netball. Football needs more defenders like Was!

His elbow was the only positive I took from Saturday's game.

Long said he looks like he could be red carded every single game & that hasn't changed... and probably never will.

On the plus side he has a bit of defensive steel that goes above Morgan/Moore putting a solid shift in but ultimately conceding a few as we lose & we badly need that.

We need this!

I would say he ment it, but he's clever and kept his eye on the ball, so proving intent will be hard.

Our best player Saturday by a mile, just needs to think a bit.

Don't see what some are moaning about, he looks hard as ****, takes no prisoners, and can intimidate opponents, I wouldn't want to go in on a 50-50 challenge with him.

Ok he used his elbow and will get himself into trouble, but so did the leicester legend Steve Walsh, but look how good he was for us.

here it is

from that clip there is absolutely nothing in it, it looks like he's guarding the ball with his forearm and due to the size difference his elbow which is extended rather than bent hits berahino somewhere between collar bone and chin. but he always has eyes on the ball and the elbow doesn't look forced.

but i will reserve judgement of some of the crazy comments on here until I see it on tv, assuming MOTD will be on BBC on demand sometime soon.
