ADK Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Players usually go out on loan before they get put in the first team.
65RosesFox Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 As soon as Bakayogo is back fit we will fine.
indierich06 Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Do people think Saints weren't aware of the quality of these players BEFORE they put them in the squad, or were they in the squad because they were aware of their quality? It's more likely to be the latter. You're being deliberately obtuse as usual - unless you think I'm genuinely suggesting that Southampton just picked random players from their u18s and threw them into the first team and crossed their fingers. Obviously Southampton were aware that these players had the potential to step up, but having potential and reaching it are two completely different things. As for their quality, yes it's plain for all to see now, but was it as obvious then? There have been many players in the past who have been described as the next big thing, only to fail in making the step up - Bale certainly struggled once he made the move to Spurs, Lionel Messi was turned down by River Plate and almost released by Barcelona as a kid. If reports are to be believed, we have at least three players in the academy who have the potential to eventually make the step up in Chilwell, Ndukwu and Choudhury. I'm not saying throw them all in the first team immediately, but if we want to know if they're good enough, then eventually we're going to have to roll the dice.
m4DD0gg Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Southampton have the pick of the south coast, most of kent and up into surrey, there is literally know competition hence all the youth players end up there.

Plenty of London clubs that would be on the lookout for players in Kent and Surrey. I imagine they get a good selection, but they're hardly without competition.
Jace Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Southampton have the pick of the south coast, most of kent and up into surrey, there is literally know competition hence all the youth players end up there. Along with Plymouth Argyle, Exeter City, Bournemouth, Yeovil and Portsmouth
phildw Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Looks like he's off to Swansea. Can't blame him really I suppose.
Jon the Hat Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Southampton have the pick of the south coast, most of kent and up into surrey, there is literally know competition hence all the youth players end up there. Right. We are ignoring the huge Chelsea training complex in Surrey then?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Southampton have the pick of the south coast, most of kent and up into surrey, there is literally know competition hence all the youth players end up there. Hate to be that guy, but really?

coolhandfox Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 To be fair Southampton weren't in the PL when they introduced Bale, Ox and Walcott! It a little easier to bring youth players in at a lower level! I think we have done ok, we have Moore, Schlupp and King in our current squad who have come thro the Academy! Plus Mattock and Stearman who were both sold for over a million pounds! Then Gradel who's play in the top league in France!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 He moved seamlessly into the dev team's last game, got rave reviews, well regarded, apparently. Could it be that Pearson is holding fire on the LB position this season, hoping Chilwell could step up next season? As someone has already pointed out, we have current backup solutions in Schlupp and De Laet. When you look how Southampton are willing to throw in their best academy products, why can't we? Their academy is way ahead of ours. We should be looking at how they structure theirs, and learning from it.
Tielemans63 Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Palace have bid 3 million for Neil Taylor - would be an ideal signing for us. A natural LB too with prem experience.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Palace have bid 3 million for Neil Taylor - would be an ideal signing for us. A natural LB too with prem experience. I mentioned him back in the summer, definitely an improvement on Konchesky
SecretPro Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 I mentioned him back in the summer, definitely an improvement on Konchesky Get him in.
Aus Fox Posted 20 January 2015 Posted 20 January 2015 Just reading 2 clubs have come in for Swansea's Taylor. I think Palace are one, hopefully we are the other.
artursteppe Posted 20 January 2015 Posted 20 January 2015 Chilwell is no way near ready for first team yet. He's only just started to play for the development side, think people are getting far to carried away. If you mean he is 'nowhere near' ready for the first team yet, I'll take your word for it.
Bamba's Babes Posted 20 January 2015 Posted 20 January 2015 Why the fevking **** are we not signing him? £5m is peanuts.
AKCJ Posted 20 January 2015 Posted 20 January 2015 We need to start challenging clubs for these players. 5m is welll worth it for someone who has proven his worth at this level. We need to bolster this defence and time is running out.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 January 2015 Posted 20 January 2015 As soon as Bakayogo is back fit we will fine. What was Pearson thinking of, bringing him here, I wonder? Maybe he has a hidden talent somewhere?
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 20 January 2015 Posted 20 January 2015 Not fussed, we don't need a RB and all the Spurs fans I know think he's useless at LB. Would much rather pay less money for Martin Olsson, an actual LB!
