Raj Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Theres ALOT of love for MrRandomnSilly tonight!!!
6ups 6downs 2 cups Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 That Radio Leicester are now forced to air NP interviews from MOTD and 5live rather than IS is actually an improvement. Shame we don't hear from the players but ultimately it's the boss we want to hear from, no matter who the interviewer is.
teblin Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Interesting stuff. Also explains Pearson's "people in glass houses" comment to stringer.
Dickov22 Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 That Radio Leicester are now forced to air NP interviews from MOTD and 5live rather than IS is actually an improvement. Shame we don't hear from the players but ultimately it's the boss we want to hear from, no matter who the interviewer is. The players just say the same thing anyway. 'We need to work harder, we must keep going' etc. I've no interest in player interviews as they are all a total cliche. I'm happy with the 5live interviews with big Nige .
Spanner73 Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 I stared a post a few days ago asking the same thing went to download the podcast for the interview .... Friend of mine told me he's pulled the plug on RL like he's done before , as a person and our football manager he really is an arrogant so and so at times !

Tends to only really be the case with Stringer though. Coincidence?
C-man Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 I stared a post a few days ago asking the same thing went to download the podcast for the interview .... Friend of mine told me he's pulled the plug on RL like he's done before , as a person and our football manager he really is an arrogant so and so at times ! For the millionth time, he's not pulled the plug on RL; just Ian Stringer. That isn't arrogance. Pearson is within his right to demand a little respect from the people whose questions put them under even more pressure than they already are from the fans. The way I see it with RL is that if I had a client who hated working with one of my employees (because he made a cut throat gesture and has a clear agenda - maybe they don't make us enough money so he's acted for them accordingly), rather than lose the client completely it would make sense to change which employee dealt with the client, no? Surely they can find another interviewer.
Spanner73 Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Point taken , I can't stand stringer he makes my teeth itch so much so that I dont listen to his commentary just the interview , but let's face it pearson doesn't help himself at times !
fleckneymike Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 I actually think Geoff should have his own thread. Seems like an approachable Geezer and all round good un. On a side note i think he should always try and indirectly mention his beloved Lestah whenever he interviews folk and see how long he can get away with it before being hauled to the ivory towers and the powers that be(whoever they are at Talksport!!!!) He's available for weddings, bamihtzvas and party's if you'd like to book him.
Bayfox Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 The cut throat gesture was to a player after the Liverpool game who considered this to be disrespectful to the manager. The players, who didn't hold IS in much regard anyway, collectively decided not to speak to RL to highlight their support for Pearson. Pearson mentioned in the next pre match press conference that the players alone had themselves taken this course of action. I'm led to believe IS doesn't dispute the cut throat gesture but claims it wasn't intended how the player viewed it. I also understand Pearson was quite annoyed by RL's public insistence that he wouldn't speak to them, when he would - just not to one person. RL take the view that they won't be dictated to in terms of who does the interviews. While I accept that up to a point, they could win back some goodwill by getting JB to ask the questions. There are ways and means of asking difficult questions - plenty in the media/press do it the right way and they get proper answers. And I repeat my point about building relationships with managers/players/club which helps when things get tough. well I can understand why the players back pearson and found it disrespectful. if nothing else it is very unprofessional. stringer has always been a tool and clearly has an agenda, more for his own publicity and career than anything else. if he cared for the club or the fans as he claims he would wind his own neck in for the sake of giving the fans something they want to hear. look at the recent paper interviews with pearson, they show you can get an interesting piece from him if you try. but constantly asking about his job or transfers when you know he won't discuss it, is just pointless, he gets like 5 mins to interact with him after matches, stop spending 2 of it asking shit questions you know won't get answers.
wight88 Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Have had respect for Geoff ever since he was in that women's magazine article 20 years ago
Richmondfox Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 I do feel sorry for Stringer, imagine all the players of the team you support knowing who you are and thinking you're massive helmet. It would be interesting to see the download figures for the show over the last few months. I used to enjoy listening to the call in and Boot room on my commute to work but I've stopped due to the rubbish audio montage at the start of the show, 'i'm just doing me job, asking the questions the fans want to know', the doom and gloom angle and very idiot callers. You could tell over the last few months Birch was getting annoyed with his questions to Pearson on the Boot room but is too polite/professional to tell him straight and IS couldn't take a hint. Bourne and Stringer need to listen to the Guardian football podcast (and Geoff's show) to pick up a few tips from real professionals.
KFS Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 "Final one from me, and I've got to ask because I'm the voice of the fans"
VLC86 Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 I do feel sorry for Stringer, imagine all the players of the team you support knowing who you are and thinking you're massive helmet. Not sure why you feel sorry for him but they don't think he's a bellend, they know he is and its all his fault.

He's brought it all by himself and if certain personnel are choosing not to speak to him as a show of support to someone they do look up to (Pearson) then he only has himself to blame.

It seems that sarcasm is being missed in print, reread it with a sarky voice. Of course I don't feel sorry for him as he isn't very good at his job, or at least his vision of what his role is. He has brought this on by his actions. Either Stringer has a lot of pull at the station or the powers above haven't got a clue what is going on below them. I've worked in the media for over 10 years and it is hard for people to shake off a bad rep, professionally this will stick with him for a long time.
Livid Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 A lot of us have to deal with some complete and utter *Insert Expletive Here* every day at work, but we just get on with it. I'm not Stringer's biggest fan but the Club needs to take a grip and tell the lot of them to grow up.

And as far as customers are concerned, that's another story. And again, not the type of professional relationship we're dealing with here. Not talking to one particular local media outlet isn't unprofessional - there have been plenty of similar examples in the past where it was warranted and a logical reaction.

Actually I have no problems with my colleagues it is those from other organisations I tend to have issues with. I just don't ignore them. The Forest with the Evening Post, Newcastle with the Chronicle, us with Radio Leicester, all very petty.

I think both parties have got to look at themselves Pearson needs to calm down in his interviews and if hears a question doesn't like just bite his tongue and say "I very much prefer not to answer that question" and just leave at that. However i think the only way Radio Leicester will have any sort of communication with Pearson is to not allow Stringer anywhere near Pearson perhaps let Mike McCarthy do the interviews instead.

He's done that on numerous occasions but IS persists in asking the same questions he knows he's not going to get an answer to, I'm sure most people would find that extremely irritating
artursteppe Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 I cannot believe why it is so few people actually understand that the modern way, maybe even the only way to interview people on radio and television, in sport, politics or any other form of trying to gather information from people who wish to avoid answering difficult questions, is to be 'adversarial'. Watch any news programme and many sports programmes and consider some of the best over the years, Paxman, David Frost and John Humphries. They all do, or have, adopted 'in your face', tough questioning because it is the only way. Get real, and grow up children!
