Yeah, tw@ts everywhere so it's a worldwide issue!

Did you bother driving or public transport?

We drove. We had an Airbnb, so getting to places was made far easier hiring a car. They drive on the left, but eccentricly at times! Also they use 3 pin sockets as we do.

Can recommend the people I hired from.

I’m off to London for 3 days in December. I’ve been a few times for weekends etc but never really done anything interesting. Does anyone have any recommendations? Things to do, good restaurants etc

I went last weekend to Kensington palace gardens. You can walk over to the Serpentine and you're not far from all the museums. Great idea if you want to escape the hustle of London.

V&A museum.

Natural History Museum and Science museum.

Sky Gardens (free but you can only book up to 3 weeks in advance).

The Shard.

London Aquarium.

London Eye.

I find just walking around so many parts of London to be quite good to go - all the parks (Hyde, Regents, St James'...). Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, down the Thames and you can get some lovely views on some of the bridged.

Whereabouts are you staying?

We haven’t booked it yet but I think we will be at Marble Arch.

Very close to Oxford Street so the missus will be expecting a shopping trip then ;)

Also literally on Hyde Park - if winter wonderland is going ahead it's gonna be absolutely rammed (if going on a weekend).

Booked to go to Berlin for a few nights in February. Recommendations on places to go, eat, see etc are welcome.

Would recommend a Sandemans free walking tour (departs near the Brandenburg Gate). Also take a walk from the Ostbahnhof down the East Side Gallery and go to a little place called Scheers Schnitzel at the end. Proper locals place but the best schnitzel I've ever had, then you're just over the river from a few decent bars.

Currywurst is a must and Curry 36 in Mehringdamm is decent (not as good as in Bochum mind, but then I would say that). There's also a really popular kebab place nearby called Mustafa's that my German mates rave about, but sadly didn't get a chance to try it. The queues were really long for it when we went by. There's a bar there called Vogt's that'll let you eat in there as long as you buy a pint.

The DDR museum is also worth an hour and there's a quality pub called Brauhaus Georgbraeu a couple of minutes walk along the river from it. Home brewed beer and really decent food for lunch too.

Edit: Also worth noting that Germany is always fvcking Baltic in February in my experience, so take a big coat.

I'd recommend Burgermeister to eat. Incredible burgers at this cool hut underneath the traintracks, just off the river Spree.

Nice one. I’ve heard about Mustafa’s - apparently if you keep walking up the street past the line away from the hut there’s another gaff on the right that’s arguably better according to locals, so will check both out and see what we fancy.

East Side gallery is 100% on the list so will check all of those places out near there too - as well as the other bits mentioned.

My Mrs brother told us about this place yesterday, but he couldn’t remember the name. Will check it out, nice one.

Is there a local Berlin ale @Voll Blau? I know about Berliner Weisse.

Berliner Kindl and Berliner Pilsner are the main two I came across in pubs there (think one is the East Berlin beer and the other is the West Berlin beer), but it's a big city so you can find variety in quite a few places.

Georgbraeu is the best place I've been there for proper local stuff. They brew in the cellar and both the Dunkel and Lager were absolutely top notch.

I’ve lost count the amount times of been to Malta over the past 20yrs, my family have a business and property over there.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea because it’s very built up and not your average holiday island.

Pros,

Some nice beaches in the north.
Valletta is an amazing walled city with culture and history around every turn.
The whole island is dripping in history, from the knights of St. John through to Ww2

Decent nightlife scene around St Julians area.
Low crime rate.
Everybody speaks English.
Gozo is worth a trip

Cons,

it’s very built up and they are building sites everywhere.

The traffic and driving can be horrific, I believe there are more cars than people on the island.
July and August can be very hot 🥵

Unfortunately the current government are some of the most dodgy and bent in the western world ( Malta has just been greylisted by the IMF)

it’s hardly Majorca, but I love it.

The Imperial War museum is a must, I found it fascinating, free to get in, the exhibits are amazing and give you a great experience. Give yourself enough time though, we ran out of time and had to go back another day to look around the holocaust exhibition.

Far better in my opinion than the natural  history and science museums.

Normally I'd recommend a boat trip out to Greenwich, but maybe not such a great idea in December. Try one of the many pub theatres dotted around (or go to a big show in the west end). The Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park isn't too bad. Brixton is a good place if you like vibrant cosmopolitan culture. The South Bank is always good for a stroll, and you can pop down to Borough Market. For the best kebabs this side of Istanbul try the establishments on Green Lanes, some of which serve alky drinks. Kids always like the Hamleys toy store down Regent Street.

Someone recommended the Bermondsey Beer Mile to me, well worth checking out!

Sacked the idea of Moscow (reluctantly) and am off to Faro in Portugal instead. Any good?

Been twice before as my boss has a villa just outside Faro. Along with Rijeka its my favourite European getaway. Lovely restaurants and not overly busy. Can be a bit pricey for the better eat outs but plenty of cheap and cheerful places. Enjoy.

We're currently about half an hour away, haven't been yet but plan to go for a few days in the next fortnight so I'll let you know
