Berliner Kindl and Berliner Pilsner are the main two I came across in pubs there (think one is the East Berlin beer and the other is the West Berlin beer), but it's a big city so you can find variety in quite a few places.

Georgbraeu is the best place I've been there for proper local stuff. They brew in the cellar and both the Dunkel and Lager were absolutely top notch.

Round the corner from Georgbraeu is a place called Zur Gerichtslaube (http://www.gerichtslaube.de/?lang=en). When I went to the DFB Cup final in 2019 I went there for lunch. Traditional food and they do their own beer as well (Schoeffenbier). There are also a few other bars around that locality so you are in a good place, not far from Alexanderplatz.

Hackescher Markt is also good for bars/restaurants but I have only been in May time when outdoor seating is a thing, not sure what it would be like in the colder months. Still large indoor venues though.

Supposed to be travelling on Friday 27th to Egypt which is currently in the red zone but holiday company won't cancel until Shapps gives the latest relaxation/restrictions update. I don't care either way as I'm not going anyway, even if it goes to amber as I don't feel it's safe for me to be there (re Covid) but I'll still be going somewhere, just not sure where yet.

I might just drive to France for a week or two as it's easier to stay away from the general public.

Vilamoura in April 2022, week with the family. Managed to get flights from LHR with BA for the 3 of us, £150 return business both ways, using some Avios. Hotel was £900 for the week. So a weeks holiday for a grand (3 of us) excluding spending is pretty decent in these times.

Does anyone know if you travel to another country via car if you still need the 2 tests ordered and passenger locator forms filled out? Planning on a road trip to Warsaw for the Leicester game, stopping off in Berlin for a few days

I think you will at least need to follow whatever the rules are for France. Once you're in the EU there are no road borders so you won't need anything for the other countries. We live in Spain but are currently in Portugal, we didn't need anything to get across the border.

Something to bear in mind is that some countries are asking for a Covid vaccine certificate to check in to accommodation and also to eat in restaurants. Portugal certainly are, but I don't know about anywhere else.

Vilamoura is beautiful  you'll love it.

Some massive rich boy yacht around that harbour and a luxury hotel on the harbour where we loitered around looking  at the rich tw@ts swanning around.

Covid....I believe if you are 12 & over UK Adult citizen ,travelling into Germany you Need Now a vaccine, with only a Test ( children), then 5 day quarantine  at own costs...A simple Test I believe is no longer valid..Transitting from Another European country to Germany, you will be still controlled...

A Friend who like me lives in Germany, was still Stopped on the French-German border, the dozo forgot he still had GB Sticker on his wife's car, ( with German plates),  2 weeks ago..out of curiosity asked the Customs (Zoll) what UK Citizens Need from September 21...She told him " full vaccination,if Coming from UK

just a test, no longer valid "

For info Read the gov.uk site for travel in Europe ( just a suggestion,I haven t Read it,no need)..

One can expect as we Move into autumn, more detailed Stronger regulations changes & info.

There are no short-cuts...

Might be going to Egypt after all, my mate works on a dive boat and assures me that it’s safe - government has a mask mandate in covered spaces and I’ll be on the boat/beach for a week. 2nd week not sure about as going to Luxor for a weeks cruise birdwatching so not sure how crowded it’ll be as we’ll probably be stopping at the usual places on the Nile.
If I don’t go I lose all my money…

Villamoura is superb. I have been many times with my family when I was younger.

I've just booked to go Copenhagen with my mates next month for three nights. Hopefully will be a nice little break away.

Looks like Brits will be allowed into the USA again, starting from November.

I know…. I’ve managed to avoid travelling for work for nearly 18 glorious months…. I’m now out of excuses!!!

Any news on travel to China? We have a site there and I'm going to need to travel there as soon as we can, but holding off the inevitable as long as I can :twitch:

Apparently we have students who have opted to stay to do a Masters because of how complicated it is travelling back there, so I am guessing it's not looking promising!

Can anyone advise,

I am flying to the Netherlands this  Friday 1st Oct and returning on Sunday. I have had two jabs but cannot work out if I need to provide a negative PCR test before I fly.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Since found this so I am guessing so. Anyone recommend anywhere to get a test?

Testing requirements

Testing requirements depend on the category of the country that you are travelling from.

As of 8 August, travellers aged 12 and over arriving in the Netherlands from the UK via aeroplane, ferry, passenger car, train or bus must follow one of the following two options:

  • show a negative PCR test result (taken no more than 48 hours before departure);
  • or show a negative antigen test result (taken no more than 24 hours before departure).

These requirements also apply to travellers who are fully vaccinated.

Bring a suitcase full of weed home and they won’t care about your Covid tests.

In all seriousness, if it’s on the amber list and you return before the 4th it’s the same as Poland. Take a negative lateral flow (can’t be NHS) before you leave and take a PCR 2 days after you come back.

What’s the cheapest travel jabs people have found for the day 2 antigen that you need to buy on your way home?

Randox is £48. £43 if you are flying with ryanair. Code I think is FLYRYANAIR

Have to have it posted to your house before you go and you send it back on day 2.
