Has Anyone Booked a Holiday Yet?

Recommended Posts

Looking at booking to go to Barcelona in February, I've been before but a few of my mates haven't and it's that bloody good I don't mind going again.

Has anyone on here managed to ever get tickets for a Barcelona game? Is it relativley easy and whats the best way to go about it or is it a bit of a pain in the arse? And how much are they? All I ever hear is how cheap forigen tickets are, is this really the case?

Christmas sorted.

Dad is coming down to Zambia, we'll show him Vic Falls (Obvs) and maybe walk with some Cheetahs and pet some Lions. You know the usual.

Then we are off to Cape Town again to show him Table Mountain and other cool stuff. Some friends of ours are popping down from DRC, so it will be a big party. Can't wait.

Hamburg next weekend, Vienna in December.

Planning a day trip to Bratislava when in Vienna with the missus, any reccomendations? Went about 6 years old on a lads trip but cant remember there being much to do during the day apart from the castle, which was a bit of a trek from the city centre....

I've been to Bratislava. The castle isn't far from the city centre , about 10 minute walk. You can walk around the grounds for free. Not worth going inside , just has lots of paintings. Very quiet city conpared to Budapest and Prague.

Cheers.

Yeah we were hanging when we walked up to the castle so it probably felt like more than 10 mins to us lol. Castle was closed for refurbishment I believe but it sounds like we didnt miss much. Only reason we are considering Bratislava for a day trip from Vienna is a) Its a new country for the missus and b) its only an hour away.

If you have a look on Groupon Getaways, they do some deals with accommodation and a Barcelona game of choice (excluding flights).

Prices vary from around £89pp (2 nights and a game) to around £650 (For El Classico).

Going for a week in Portugal tomorrow. Hope I can find a bar showing the match.

Sure you'll have no problem at all (assuming you're going to the Algarve?) Most bars out there have dodgy Sky TV so no worries. Have a great time

I hope so. Am I right in thinking Saturday's match is televised as well?

I assume you are going to the Mount Nelson for high tea? If not, that is where you should be going!

Where will you be staying? Do you have time for a wine tour? I really enjoy them, but it is a whole day.

You have to go to the world's best coffee shop, Truth Coffee. Ask for Groove or Innocent and tell them Gareth sent you :)

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Truth+Coffee+Roasting/@-33.9284327,18.4218613,17.46z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x1dcc677c90fa4f93:0xfb23b9d5b59813f6!8m2!3d-33.92819!4d18.4226889

It is generally safe to walk around during the day, but obviously take the normal precautions (don't flash cash, be conscious of where you put your wallet and phone, don't go down dark alleys). At night, take a taxi.

To do:

- Wine tour, you can either join an organised one (probably best so you don't drive), or figure it out yourself. We usually just figure it out, which has prevented me from fully enjoying!!

Vineyards of note:

  1. Tokara, http://tokararestaurant.co.za/, our favourite vineyard and restaurant
  2. Simonsig, http://www.simonsig.co.za/ also a fantastic restaurant
  3. Beyerskloof, http://beyerskloof.co.za/, fantastic wines
  4. Warwick, http://warwickwine.com/, very good wine, especially their blends
  5. Boschendal, http://www.boschendal.com/, big estate, produces a lot, in Franshoek a bit further away

In Cape Town, there is a lot to see very close to each other when just walking around

- Company Gardens, it's a pleasant stroll, and after you can go to...

- Iziko Slave Lodge, http://www.iziko.org.za/museums/slave-lodge, followed by lunch at Eastern Food Bizaar, then the

- Castle of Good Hope, http://www.castleofgoodhope.co.za/, and lastly

- District Six Museum, http://www.districtsix.co.za/, which will stop you off right by Truth Coffee :)

There is also;

- Bo-Kaap Museum, http://www.iziko.org.za/museums/bo-kaap-museum and a walk around that area, which is OK

- Longmarket Street, there is a nice African market where you can get stuff

- Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, http://www.sanbi.org/gardens/kirstenbosch, around the other side of table mountain, it's stunning, there is a fun (for kids at least!) tree top walk way

- Cape Town Stadium, check to see if there is a game on, tell Groove and Innocent you want to go, and have fun!

- Dolphin Beach, https://www.google.com/maps/place/Dolphin+Beach,+Table+View,+Cape+Town,+7441,+South+Africa/@-33.8333561,18.4798954,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x1dcc5f0f5f6dc3cd:0x89ad436379445d4f!8m2!3d-33.8308864!4d18.4822256 has the most amazing views of table mountain, make sure you get your picture taken there!

- West Coast National Park, https://www.sanparks.org/parks/west_coast/ a full day thing, but it is beautiful

Dinner:

- Tokara, http://tokararestaurant.co.za/, just amazing

- La Mouette, http://www.lamouette-restaurant.co.za/, fantastic restaurant

- Signal, http://www.signalrestaurant.co.za/, the tasting menu is great, it's a bit pricey, but not really considering what you get and how much it would cost eslewhere

- Pot Luck, http://thepotluckclub.co.za/ (good luck getting in, I've not managed it)

- Test Kitchen, http://www.thetestkitchen.co.za/, best restaurant in Africa, difficult to get into

- Addis in Cape, http://www.addisincape.co.za/, really authentic ethiopian

- Cuvee at Simonsig, http://www.simonsig.co.za/restaurant-2/, a bit far out maybe, but worth it

Lunch:

- Harbour House, http://www.harbourhouse.co.za/, really good lunch, a little pricey but much better quality than the other restaurants around the harbour

- Easter Food Bizaar, http://www.easternfoodbazaar.co.za/, fantastic dosa

- Fork Tapas, http://www.fork-restaurants.co.za/

- Wharfside Grill, Hout Bay, it's a little drive, but Hout Bay is lovely and the Warfside do good fish and chips, and you can drive along Chapman's peak

Drinks:

- Cubana Latin, http://cubana.co.za/

- Anywhere on Long Street, lots of bars

Avoid:

- Zenzero, Camps Bay (in fact most of the restaurants in Camps Bay, they are OK but overpriced)

- Much of the V&A, unfortunately it's a tourist trap, so the prices are high and quality isn't great, but Harbour house has been an exception

Off to Amsterdam Monday to Thursday.  The missus is paying, as it's my birthday.  I appreciate the sentiment & the outlay, but what about Champions League?

Anyone know any decent bars/coffeeshops likely to be showing the match?  A sports bar maybe, showing a selection of games?
