ithuriel Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 First half was not the best match I've seen by a long way but second we played quite well, was reasonably entertaining and their goal keeper made two great saves within a few minutes of each other, deserved win. The after match booefest by the Newcastle support towards their own was something I've rarely seen before, the Newcy players must be really miffed at that.
les-tah Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Jeeeesus I dint realise Morgan was that slow when running back for their disallowe goal!!! Carthorse hahah
Webbo Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 tbf he never moved his head towards the ball. The ball hit his head but he did manage to guide it towards the goal.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Think the lino didn't see Konchesky for their disallowed goal judging how he was looking.
Babylon Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 tbf he never moved his head towards the ball. The ball hit his head but he did manage to guide it towards the goal.He had to move his whole body and guide the ball, almost impossible to head towards the ball with it coming in at that angle.
Soar Fox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Have a good read of this site. http://sackpardew.com/ Plenty on there putting up fair arguments against him. Yeah bet they really hated them when they finished 5th in the 2011/12 4 points of a champions league place. Pardew is a decent manager and Newcastle fans should be careful what they wish for. Not many managers would be able to work with an owner like Mike Ashley.
benpicko Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Wood did well to head that tbh and what a touch by Nugent Short corners as well
yorkie1999 Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 That's just it. Never seen the queue anywhere near that long before - it spanned all the way to where the visitor's busses drop off. I'm J in the queue and they were definitely trying to speed it up but prioritising A-G in the alphabet by adding more queues and moving them to the fanstore was ridiculous. Then as I finally got to the front of the queue, the Jim Davison lookalike just starts yelling people's names out starting with "I" - "have we got an Irvine here? Irwin?" I was ready to punch him. Instead I just shouted my name and full address and put my hand out, but it worked Anyone with a surname of Y or Z is probably still queuing now Yep. What was the score?
65RosesFox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Albrighton was MOTM for me. We looked a lot more of a threat when he came on and he put some great balls in and must start against Villa with Knockaert on the other wing. Lawrence looked better in the middle rather than out wide, but as someone else previously mentioned I think his best position will be as an attacking midfielder. He looked comfortable on the ball, and always wanted it, he didn't shy away. Plus put in some good corners. Dilemma for Pearson in defence, with Moore having a solid game, Wasyl being our best defender over the Christmas period and Morgan being captain. Plus Konch returning today and RDL playing on the right and the back five keeping a clean sheet. But it would be harsh to drop Simpson. Is there any sort of update on Cambiasso?
Soar Fox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I saw the best corners we've took all season today. Knockaert especially whipped in some great corners, good to see for a change.
Harry - LCFC Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Is there any sort of update on Cambiasso? Pearson said the substitution was "precautionary". Assume that means it isn't too bad.
Leicesterpool Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 So who do we want in round four? wouldn't mind Cambridge Utd or Sheffield United away.

promised land Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Newcastle fans should be careful what they wish for. Not many managers would be able to work with an owner like Mike Ashley. Talking to a Newcastle fan on the way back to the train station, I asked who was inline for the job now, he reckons no one until the end of the season. Something I find hard to believe but time will tell. The Pardew song from SK1 back at them late on in the game was class.
Corky Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 It wasn't a classic, a struggling side against a reserve team, but we did enough to win, get through and complete an encouraging week. Serious lack of anything happening in the first 25 minutes, then a disallowed goal that looked a close decision at the ground and seems as though it was incorrect. Good corner routine for the winner, nice ball in by James as well. Second half we were comfortably the better side, could've added to our score and never really looked like conceding, so a second win and clean sheet in three games is a boost. Was impressed with Lawrence on his debut, few nervy and loose touches early on but grew in confidence and got stuck in. James dictated things after Cambiasso went off, Albrighton was lively and Nugent had a decent display. The defence was mostly shielding of Hamer, didn't think Wood was quite up to it unfortunately. Newcastle were the most uninspiring and lacklustre bunch we've had at the ground in a long while, there was little aggression or urgency to get on with things towards the end. No wonder the fans were pissed off, insipid performance. Nice to see a win at home again.

Nobody will be able to do a proper job at Newcastle until Mike Ashley is out of the club. Wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with a foreign manager, probably a Frenchman.

I've long thought Ashley is the problem, not Pardew. But time will tell.

Pardew did a decent job under difficult circumstances but of course he won't get any credit or praise from many geordie fans for the work he did. Unless Newcastle go for a big name which is extremely doubtful while Ashley is there then I can see Newcastle dropping like stone again especially if they give the job to someone like John Carver.

Our best corner taker, as simple as that, i've been saying it for weeks. He's not brilliant, i'm not saying he is, but he is our best.

But time will tell.Ashley might be a London bad boy but you wonder where they would be without the millions he does begrudgingly spend? He defo gets his moneys worth with his sportsdirect brand but you'd think some megarich dubai folk would see the potential and buy him out. Think Ashley is a very underated businessman!!!
AdamN Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I suppose it's not inconceivable that Newcastle could be dragged back into the relegation battle if they don't sort things out. It'd take some doing, but if they pick up as many points from the remaining 18 games as we did in the first 18, then it'd only leave them on 37 points. Going by the circus they've got going on upstairs and their performance today, you wouldn't put it past them...

He's made a fortune Raj but apparently doesn't spend it on the club? That's the point really. I know someone like Abramovich is much much richer, but WILL spend where the club needs to spend. Ashley, or so I've read, runs Newcastle football club as purely a business. Making and taking his profit from it each season. There comes a time I think where the 'business' side of things takes back seat, for a time, to the 'football' side of things. Arsenal is another example. Profit making for years and are happy if they make the Champs league each season, having won just one FA cup in over 10 years.

A lot of that is actually down to Wenger, he has had money and passed up on it numerous times.
