Riyad Mahrez on the ball for City

Winger Riyad Mahrez has said he is happy to be a Leicester City player.

The 24-year-old has been one of City's standout performers this season and, while the team have found life tough in the Premier League, the Algeria international has looked at home in the top flight.

City's position at the foot of the Premier League table with 11 games to go has prompted speculation that some of their better players could be targeted by Premier League clubs, if they drop back into the Championship.

There was newspaper speculation that Mahrez was a £7million target for Tottenham.

However, speaking before the speculation emerged, Mahrez said he was only focused on helping City's fight for survival.

"Yes, obviously," Mahrez replied when asked about whether he would stay with City.

"I have two years left on my contract and I am a Leicester player.

"I don't know what the future is but I am happy to be a Leicester player."

Mahrez, who has made 20 appearances in the league this season and has scored two goals, admits it has been a frustrating season for City as they have failed to get the results after positive performances.

The French-born winger admits City have been punished ruthlessly for not taking their chances when on top in games.

"I don't think we have had a lot of luck because in every game, home and away, we create so many chances," he said.

"We play very well but more important are the points. If we lose every game 3-0 or 4-0 then okay, but we are only losing by the odd goal. The games are very close.

"For me, it is some details we need to improve on. In the Premier League, the small details are the difference between the big clubs and the smaller teams.

"It is a big challenge for us now. We have to keep going in the same way, playing good, because then we can win the game."

He's off then!

"Speaking before the speculation emerged."

Spurs, a team who will get European football, in London, always knocking on the door... with Bentaleb already there.

Article does nothing because it's before the speculation, ask him now after reports emerged of their reported intention.

Can't see Mahrez staying if Tottenham want him.

If any team needs a lightweight player who consistently makes poor final passes he's the man. Awful today

that's what I thought, no strength whatsoever and is easy to force him out the game.

He could still be a great player he has the physical and mental attributes, what he really needs is top class coaching. Something he won't seemingly get here with our collection of clowns in charge.

Mahrez is one of several players who no longer seem interested. I don't think we've looked like an especially well-motivated side on 9 or 10 key occasions this season, but today I saw Mahrez, Schlupp and Kramaric all ducking 50-50s on multiple occasions.

I don't believe Pearson has lost the dressing room in the sense that the players don't actively want him fired (I could well be wrong, of course), but there's a growing group of them (the aforementioned plus Knockaert, Albrighton) who, it seems, would be happy to see the back of our manager. And if it was De Laet, Konchesky, Simpson or Upson who wanted him out I couldn't care less, but some of these players are precisely the ones who will have to pull off something special if we're to stay up. Or, perhaps, bounce back next year,

I don't know why we are worrying about any players jumping ship if/when we go down this year. Not one of them has consistently performed well. Despite mahrez's undoubted skill, he has no right foot and gives the ball away at least as much as everyone else. He can only play on the right and so is a bit of a one trick cut inside pony at the moment. I think more players will be rightly worried about being transfer listed than thinking about going to pastures new and that includes most who have joined this season and added little in the way of premiership quality.

Overrated, got laughed at for saying it but quite frankly I'm past caring.

Very hit & miss and has been like it all season, definitely not player of the season worthy.

wouldn't be bothered to lose him. Sick of him rolling about cheating every week. And he wore gloves

Get rid.

Said it before and got absolutely slaughtered for it, He's a £3m-4m player. and will 100% go abroad, He won't suit any teams in this division that need that calibre of player.

£5m-7m is the absolute max we'd command for him, He's inconsistent at this level and will be demanding atleast 40k per week having been a stand out in our team, What the media hype doesn't show is his consistent disappearing acts, anyone can go on about Fulham paying 11m for Mccorm, but those sorts of stupid deals are not often, this isn't the norm.... just because one team is willing to part 11m for an overrated player doesn't mean we can start demanding it.

Don't get me wrong he's got the most potential in our entire squad, but he's very overrated by our fans.

I haven't thought much of him that season to be quite honest. He's been one of our better players but that's not saying much. He is worth £3-4 million.

I said at the game today that his rolling around is embarrassing certainly not something I want to see our players do.

He did it earlier in the season against Burnley I think and I said the same thing then.

He has been poor for a few games now. Might be another case of promising players regressing under Pearson, but I also think he is struggling for confidence in such a poor team and is looking forward to moving on in the summer.
