Mistakes

The woman of my dreams basically turned up at my house completely unexpectedly and in a roundabout awkward way asked me out, and then in a roundabout awkward way I completely failed to do anything with it.  In some ways the most exciting thing that ever happened to me, and in others the biggest disaster.

This was a LONG time ago

And then you opened a record shop?

Got a development job (full time) before I graduated (April).

Don't know if it was a mistake impacting my final exams or whether it was valuable experience.

I'd say in the long run definitely the latter, you've made a good choice and I'm sure others in your position at uni will be envious of you. If worst came to worst, you can always repeat exams.

If you did what you believed was reasonable to defend yourself from a sexual assault then I struggle to see why you would be ashamed?

Unless are saying that, in hindsight, you overreacted? If a bloke tries to grab and kiss a woman walking down the street would you expect her to just laugh it off?

I get what you're saying but I think lamping someone when you could just push them away with the same effect is clearly an overreaction.

Biggest mistake I made was moving to London for a job, it was a disaster working with a right bunch of cocks in a soulless open plan office no talking no office banter, no leaving on time even when you have nothing to do and doing work that was 'beneath' me. Hour commute each way on the underground at rush hour. Fortunately I'm not one to suffer for very long jacked it all in after 7 months turned my back on my career and moved to Spain to teach English for 3 years.

Not sure if I class coming back as a mistake yet.

When I was about 16/17, me and a couple of mates set off a fire extinguisher at a gig in Sumo on Braunstone Gate. No idea why; ended up being locked in the owners room with two of the biggest blokes i've ever seen and threatened with the police until we paid £200 for a replacement. Looking back i'm fairly certain it would cost nowhere near that, but quarralling the price of a fire extinguisher wasn't top of our priorities at the time.

Paid the £200 and I've since completed a law degree and work in the legal field, a reformed man .

Pussy, I'd have just let them **** me :P

Drink driving for me. I managed the whole 20 mile journey fine before crashing into my house  lol . Thankfully no one was hurt and I didn't do much damage, but a lesson well learnt all the same.

Not so much a mistake but just an 'impulse incident'

A load of us lads had been to Ladies day at Ascot last year, after the races, headed off to find a pub to watch Uruguay V England. Ended up in some dive of a pub in Slough.

Pretty quiet-ish pub, all us lads watching the game and then a group of women who had been at the races turned up at the pub as well. Few of the lads started to try it on with them, rest of us were watching the game. I was standing up watching the TV and Suarez went through and scored the 2nd. Instantly I turned round and kicked a wet floor sign, in pure drunken anger.

In slow motion, it flew through the air towards this group of woman, and full on smashed this woman in the face. I went straight over to apologise make sure she was ok etc. She was like crying/laughing but telling me she was ok and her friends (not impressed with me - clearly) asked me to leave her alone lol

I nipped out after for a ciggy, genuinely feeling bad about it all, went to go back in the pub and the land lord stopped me from coming in. Looked round at the girl and see had blood coming down her face.

Managed to get her mobile number that night, kept texting her to apologise and offered to send her flowers lol she kept declining and telling me it was fine. Woke up in the morning and got a text going, alright it is my birthday soon so you can send me flowers'

Didn't text back or send flowers. She had her chance.

Fancied the pants off this girl at school. We were really good friends and used to meet up after school. Me being a very shy lad i never made a move. Group of us met up one weekend and she brought a friend along. She was quite fit and seemed to really like me. Ended up getting with her mate. Then go on to find out that the girl i really liked was gonna ask me out that night but her friend ruined it and she hated me after that.

Oh well.

I made another mistake which i didnt realise until after id done it.

Been friends with a girl for years but always saw her as a friend and never looked at her in a sexual way as we had grew up together. After GCSE's we went to Leicester College and got quite close. I liked her but didnt think she felt the same way. During this time another girl had been texting me but it wasnt anything serious. Anyway it was my cousins 18th Birthday party and this other girl had said im gonna find a quiet spot for us tonight. I didnt think anything of it and i spent the whole night with the girl i was going college with. She was sat on my knee when i get a tap on my shoulder from behind a curtain. I get up and go behind curtain to find the other girl. We have a touch and a feel. I go back to my seat to find the girl who i actually liked with a face of thunder. It was at this very moment i realised that she felt the same way about me. Couple of weeks later and after us texting eachother our feelings i asked her out. That was 11 years ago. She is now my wife and we have 2 beautiful children together.

Now the funniest thing about it is the girl who i was with behind the curtain is now a lesbian. So whenever this story comes up in conversation my wife always likes to say that i made her turn into a lesbian. lol

When I first read this, it clocked in my head that it was a house party and I thought that other girl spent the night waiting behind living room curtains for you!

As funny as it sounds every "mistake" I have made in my life has made sense later on.

However, I do have a temper. Not anything uncontrollable or too bad I just hold things in too much and over think things.

This leads to relationships being spoilt by me acting like a child etc. I've learnt more over the years to let things go especially with regards to love ones.

Also, look at the good things in life, they don't come back once gone and of you treat them well they will lead to more good things.

Basically, enjoy the bastard ride.

More mistakes than I even want to think about.

They're mostly centred around treating people like crap because I'm a massive, egotistical dickhead.

I tried thinking up a little story for you all but it just made me depressed that my life is one big self-replicating mistake following an algorithm perfected over many years of hard work and practice, so to pick one individual moment would be disingenuous.

Not investing in an house when I was 20, in the seventies, when they cost 800-900 quid.

Again in the early 80s not buying a spanish inland villa for 2000 quid.

When 19, chatting and get on with a great girl.We promised each other to meet in the same pub the next week. NOW then because I was quite an active and keen sportsman during the week I was not free.

I Got injured (literally couldnt walk fractured lower leg)so couldnt keep appointment.Neither exchanged tel.nrs. Never found her again.Met her coincidently in London before I went to

European mainland 3years later. She was still interested , she told me she went to some other town pubs, she knew I visted, but never found me, even after asking a couple of my friends.Who told her truthfully I had left the city.

She had since met one boy, but lasted 6 months.Unfortunately I had already had a girlfriend at the time, and I told her so, but

told her I had in those 3 years hoped we would get together somehow, then time and life went by, and had been in a relationship for the last 3 months. We spent the evening together went for a meal even.Kissed and made our goodbyes, saying what a shame, fate and all that.Again 8 years later crossed paths again, in france, we naturalIy ran into each others arms, hugged and kissed, I was then engaged to my future wife, she was married now to a great guy, who I had known.

Our partners were not around, so had time to exchange pleasantries and went for a drink and meal.

not a real mistake......but just left thoughts and the 'what ifs' floating around the mind. One very obvious one, what if mobiles or internet had been around then. We both travelled and worked around the world and had good lives, if I had not been injured,

we might of got married and stayed in England, and just travelled Britain. How strange life works out.
