The Anthony Knockaert Appreciation Thread

Recommended Posts

In my opinion Leicester fans often have too short a memory once a player stops getting selected in the first team. Anthony has only started 3 League games this season and if reports are believed he is on his way out in the summer but that should not detract from the incredible memories he gave us in the first two years of his stay in fact I would struggle to name a player who had a more eventful two years at the club from his stunning brace at Huddersfield to his Injury time winner at the City Ground to that fateful penalty miss.

Yes he has a massive arse which seems to slow him down when he runs so he has zero pace for a winger which may mean he never quite makes it at the highest level (hopefully not) But I genuinely love the way he plays football I love his passion for the game, his outrageous flair and his incredible work-rate I admire his character too when he missed that penalty at vicarage and thousands of Watford fans were running onto the pitch his first thought was not to run off for his own safety but to stay and apologise in tears to the fans he thought he had let down.

His fantastic performances last season where also testament to his character, those events at vicarage road would have badly effected a lot of young players but not Knockeart it seemed to spur him on and make determined to right that particular wrong and his goal in the 3-0 league match at watford and his stunning free kick at home to Sheffield Wed more than atoned for it.

After years and years of utter shite players under Levin and co its great to have players at the club who as fans you genuinely love and if we do say goodbye to Knockeart in the summer I for one will not forget those first two fantastic seasons just because he can't get in the team this year year.

Don't sell Knockaert......

Perfect sentiment, perfectly expressed. Will miss him if/when he goes.

Still cant understand reason for leaving or no contract ect. Stand out player for previous two seasons and has been and exciting player to watch in championship and city have not had many players in that category. Good luck to him.

think fez's little piece about him in the other knocky thread summed everything up perfectly.

he is by no means one of our best players nor should he be starting every week (although a chance to shine wouldn't go amiss) but the fact he attached himself to the club and fans in the way he did in the two years he was playing shows how he plays the game. i have no idea what his attitude is like in training (some seem to hint it's shit and that's why he doesn't play etc) but whenever he takes to the pitch in our kit he leaves me with no doubt that he wants to win as much, if not more, than the fans themselves. which is very rare these days, especially at a "smaller" club like ours.

like you say, in the past 15 years or so we've had a lot, a lot of players who seem to have just been going through the motions on the pitch. not tony. his joy at forest, tears at watford, even more joy at watford the season after. the whole show he put on from burnley away until the victory parade in everything he did last season. gutted if he goes.

Hasn't been given a fair chance this season. We should have sold him in the summer if we had no intention of playing him.

In his brief appearances he has been understandably rusty but he also appears to have regressed a bit as a footballer, which is less a reflection on his ability and more a damning indictment of Pearson's coaching team. See also Mahrez, Chris Wood et al

Every squad has fringe players at every level, especially Premier League ones with generally bigger squads. But hey, any player that hasn't started as much as you think they should of, let's use it as a stick to beat the manager with, the other 200 sticks are getting a bit blunt now.

Good luck to Tony wherever he is next season, always gave his all on the pitch, respects the club and the fans, has done a lot of good for us, unfortunately just shy of the standard we need at this stage in his career, but that takes nothing away from what he's contributed since being at the club.

This. And add the free kick that had we been playing at 3pm on a Saturday. Would have confirmed promotion.

And the sight of him singing don't sell knockaert in gala after donny. With his medal still round his neck at 1 am. Love it.

I think it's actually the oft-used team selection stick rather than a new one. How a player as abundantly incapable as Jeff Schlupp has been a regular this season when Knocky hasn't had a look in is something I will never be able to understand.

I love Knockaert and he generally loved it here. It's a shame he's not been given much of a chance. But we don't know what's happened but something must have. Good luck in the future Knockaert. I hope to see you high up in the foreign leagues! But hey you never know he may accept the new contract for the championship

Don't really understand what's happened with him this season but I'd want to keep him if possible, especially so if we're going down.

Still young and talented.

Not been given a proper chance.

Schluup and Mahrez have been very poor but yet they still consistently get picked.

Spot on...exactly how I feel too.

For a manager who only regresses players he's done fairly well to get to the premier league with us from league one. As for regressing players, people like Knockaert, Mahrez, Vardy have come from lower leagues and become premier league and international players in Mahrez's case. I doubt they are sitting there thinking they have regressed.

Hence, he's not a winger.

He's as good as gone I'm afraid... And I don't blame him for wanting to go!... Another Pearson mismanagement Fiasco!!

Every single fvcking thread.

Knockaert's been a fantastic if sometimes frustrating player for us, the fact he isn't playing is a management decision. Mis-management suggests that Pearson's got it wrong about him which when you don't know the ins and outs of the players situation is another foot-in-mouth weller54 moment.

You have no idea about anything that's happened behind the scenes, have no idea whether or not they get on and for all you know Knockaert's agent told him that they didn't want to talk about another contract before the season panned out as they wanted to see who else came in.

Your anti-Pearson agenda is beyond boring. Stick to the Pearson out threads that you love to hog and stay away from anywhere that requires a POSITIVE contribution.

I'd understand if our wingers were more talented or consistent but they aren't. Was really hoping AFCON with us needing someone to fill the Mahrez void, he would have taken the role in his stride and thankfully be in the mix but it sadly didn't happen (he was solid too mind.) I don't want to start the whole conspiracy angle or w/e but he's not even been on the bench recently, with us reportedly accepting loan bids I can't help but feel that his relationship with Pearson may have soured.

A big fan of Knocky, was an outstanding talent in the Champioship and at a time when we lacked flair and creativity, he brought us some wonderful memories and highlights and there is something special about a player that truly seems to love playing for the club.

IF he goes, and we go down, it will be a significant loss to the team.

Good Luck Anthony and thanks.

Sometimes its just about an unecessary nutmeg and the occasional long range screamer and the sing song in the casino in the casino at 2am. You forgive all the times it doesnt come off becuase when it does its fcking great.

Always liked him and I hope someone can fill the void.
