Izzy Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 This is getting silly! And of course the real unsung heroes this season are the owners for sticking with NP
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Waso has had a great season and very underrated
Grewks Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 How anyone who has been a city fan for more than 5 years can slate Ulloa is beyond me. Its only after watching the likes of Steve Howard that you realise just what a 'real target man' is, and Ulloa is certainly just that. For years and years and years and years and years (yeah you get the point) all we have wanted is a striker that 'only needs a chance', ulloa is that man. Nobody has won more points than Leo for us this season. Was has been great also....and even though none of us can remember Was being given the run around this season....Ulloa certainly gave him and morgan a run around last year.
TMELcfc Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 I wouldn't say anyone is an unsung hero this season, every player has had critism and every player has been praised. I voted Schlupp though only because I felt he came in for a lot of unfair critism, especially when he was playing left back even though he's clearly attack minded. He's made mistakes but with mistakes comes learning and then experience. Think he'll be a big player next season, whatever league we are in.
Clever Fox Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 While i think there are many worthy candidates I've voted for Schlupp simply because he's young and one of our own. We have cover for every position bar Jeffrey's. He's young and yet he's been asked to play different roles. Which he does with ever increasing professionalism and confidence. I still feel his biggest failing is his ability to kick a Ball.
4everfox Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Ulloa for me. Doesn't get enough credit for all the tracking back he does as well as scoring goals, his contribution to the first team is often overlooked from my point of view.
iancognito Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Wasyl. Came in and we looked a lot more solid again. He's been an absolute rock and was only really appreciated when Upson replaced him for 3 games.
ElusiveEd Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Talking of unsung heroes, (For a weird reason) is Conrad Logan still on our books and out on loan or did he find a club?
Sampson Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 When you consider that only 5 players have reached double figures in a top flight season since the number of games were reduced down to 38 games for us and well thought of they all are generally by our fans - Claridge, Heskey, Cottee, Dickov and Ferdinand, you realise how little credit Ulloa's been given for being able to get into double figures in the league during his first season up. And it's not like goals are his only asset either, his performance against Southampton was probably his best of the season so far and he didn't score

Howard was just as good (probably better) as a "target man" than Ulloa. The man was an absolute beast. Obviously Ulloa is 1 million times better at actually playing football but toss a long ball towards some centre backs and I'd rather have Howard in his prime with us competing for it than Ulloa. His hold up play was far more consistent than Ulloa's as well (albeit against far less competent defenders).

Up until then I think his hold up play has not been good, contrary to what some have said. He's literally not been strong enough a lot of the time, he's been getting knocked off the ball far to easily, and often not even jumping for headers in these circumstances. Counter that with his performance against the Saints - I would argue his best performance of the season. Rather than standing flat footed, waiting for the ball to land on his head, as has been the norm, he watched the flight of the ball, ran towards it - ahead of the defender - took a running jump and won virtually everything that came his way. Hopefully it's been a confidence thing and he can keep this part of his game at that level. He has missed a few chances, but not many, and I do think his goal return is pretty decent.
Captain... Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 I love how Morgan is now becoming flavour of the month. He's been decent the last couple of months but prior to that you could stake a claim for him being at fault for a high percentage of our goals compared to any other player. Measure that with him being our captain and supposed lynchpin and he's had a tough season. Glad to see he's battled on and is building a good partnership with Huth but let's not forget what's happened before this. I'd hope to god that he's replaced next season if we want to continue this progression long term. I've never slated Morgan, he has just been incredibly unlucky with a number of deflections and that every mistake has led to a goal, he hasn't always been helped out by the rest of the back four. He hasn't been perfect but considering he has never played in the top flight before. You compare his stats to the Wasyl he is often rated higher on sites like Who Scored, he is second highest rated player in the squad overall, after Huth, he has the second most blocks in the league. He puts his body on the line for us every game. He has been criticised, but that was mainly down to individual errors than his actual performances, see the calamity Morgan thread. As far as unsung goes he fits the bill (I can't believe people are calling Wasyl unsung, he is a fvcking legend and everyone on here knows it), as far as hero goes, he has played more minutes than anyone else this season, by a considerable way as well, 750 more minutes than second place Jeff, and as this season looks like ending on a high they are all heroes, seeing as Wes has played a bigger part in this campaign than anyone he is the biggest Hero of them all. Wes Morgan, Unsung Hero, end thread!

Wes Morgan, Unsung Hero, end thread! Yeah I like this. Good post. Most of Capn Morgan's dodge performances came when he was hopelessly out-numbered by our 442 formation which seemed to give the opposition endless chances. Morgan has never hidden. Never gone injured and like you say, puts his body on the line time and again to get in a block that most of us would be glad to get out of the way of. The surprise winner is Morgan. End of.

I'd hope to god that he's replaced next season if we want to continue this progression long term. I don't actually think many of them were his fault Before Schmeichel was injured... his lack of ability to collect/punch anything left us right in shit alley, Morgan was having to dive all over to get blocks in when balls should have been cleared. Likewise the lack of our midfield's ability to track runs into the box, saw Morgan having to leave 'his' man and scramble across to cover opposition who someone else should have tracked. He's a had a couple of bad halfs of football, but considering the team's performance as a whole I think he's had a better season than most.

Thought Ulloa was great on Saturday, his best performance for us in my opinion.
