AKCJ Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 All good footballers. And Afellay is there. Butland too, who should be England's number one for me. Stoke aren't the physical side we all come to know under Pulis anymore. Hughes is doing a superb job there. If he finishes top 10 again or even wins a domestic trophy he's surely in with a chance for the United job after his playing career there? Stoke have scored 20 goals all season including 4 against Everton. Hughes isn't doing that great, it's just that (like you said) they've got a great squad. With their attacking options, top 10 should be a formality.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 they had a toss start but seems to be coming together
AKCJ Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Yes, the players which he has has bought... I don't claim to know the ins and outs of Stoke City but if their recruitment is anything like ours then the manager can only take a slice of the credit. He's not getting nearly enough out of those players.

And I'm not just talking about football either.
Stevosevic Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 We need to be looking at bringing in players of the quality of Stoke's front four to support Vardy and Mahrez. Stoke did this without European football too. Still see people wanting Charlie Austin though

Stoke did this without European football too. Still see people wanting Charlie Austin though stoke got to a cup final, played in the europa league and have been in the premier league for 8 seasons. 18 months ago we were scoring an injury time goal to draw at home to yeovil. in a few years if we are consistently this good (or as good as stoke have been for 4 or 5 years) we'll easily be able to sign a mixture of young and older players from the continent. we've got more money than stoke, a bigger "potential" than stoke and may well finish higher in the league this season. we're on our way but we're not there yet.

Ah yes, i was wrong on the Europa league bit, but if we finish in the top 6 this season, that will do more than 4 or 5 years of mid table finishes. It's time to aspire in the next two windows while we are at our most attractive - failure to strengthen properly and the loss of Mahrez could easily see us back to a 14th position finish next season.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 He's doing a good job but Mark Hughes is the biggest tosser managing in the league, the most ungracious, bitter in defeat bellend going.
Jimothy Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 He's doing a good job but Mark Hughes is the biggest tosser managing in the league, the most ungracious, bitter in defeat bellend going. Did you see him after the Newcastle game? Butland had the game of his life and he made out like they'd battered Elliot's goal with shots whilst Butland hardly worked. He is so desperate to say his team played well he couldn't even bring himself to praise his own players world class performance.
Samilktray Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Yeah Marl Hughes is a willy puller. I hope he ends up managing some poverty league 2 club like Wimbledon.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Mark Hughes is not as bad as Garry Monk was. If he got beat he would always get in that his team played better or the ref was shit in his interview somewhere. Not to mention he was a lazy eye away from looking like an utter retard.
Captain... Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 watching MOTD highlights earlier. Clattenburg fvcked Everton over again. Stones gets the ball before taking out Arnautovic but I guess from Clattenburg's view he wouldn't have been able to see Stones getting the ball. Unfortunate for Everton. I'm not sure the official wording in a foul but whenever I see an uncident like that I think what would have happened if the defender hadn't wiped out the attacker. Yes Stones got the ball but that doesn't mean it can't be a penalty he nudges the ball 10 cm forward, then takes out Arnoutavic (sp?) if he gets enough on the ball to kick out of play or out of the way of the attacker it isn't a foul, but in this case the ball is still well within Arnoutavic's range and after the contact he is still going to get a shot away until Stones takes him out. So I say penalty is fair, whether it follows the letter of the law, I'm honestly not sure.
ARM1968 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 More a foul than a tackle tbf. If stones doesn't bring the striker down then he has a chance on goal as Stones only brushed the ball forwards. Outside the box that's a foul in the Prem probably 9 out of 10 times. Correct decision I think, just harsh on Everton. They need a new keeper and a couple of defenders. Sell stones an invest the money.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 you've got to win the ball, you can't touch it and then go **** it break your leg mate
shen Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 No. Arsenal are stronger. And Manchester City - although they have been suffering with plenty of injuries. But Spurs seem more consistent.
ithuriel Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Fact is Stones stopped a goal scoring opportunity not by getting the ball away, even if he did touch it, but by taking the player out of the equation. Those decisions can go either way depending on the referee, since, despite the rules of the game it is down to how the officials see it right then and there. It was just a bad bit of defending but Everton cant complain about not getting points when they concede so freely. Any team that scores five goals in two home games and loses both has serious defence issues and the manager should have sorted out those problems after all this time. Not hard to see why some fans want Martinez gone.
UPinCarolina Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Was having this conversation last night whilst watching the game with my son. Rooney has to be the most overpaid player ever. And I mean..ever We concurred that not is he 'off form' at present, he's actually quite shite. He's overweight, slow, and isn't linking play up at al, well. To think he's probably gonna be leading the line for England next year is just bizarre. Finally, we discussed how Man Utd, a club who prided themselves on being run highly efficiently, signing generally only the better players and making them work for new contracts etc..have become the epitome of how not to run a football club. They must have probably the best paid manager in world football..who is a charlatan. They've paid a kings ransom for Martial, Memphys etc. And they are so short of options across the whole pitch. And, as you say, Rooney on his 300k per week is disgusting. I think that's an apt word. Utd are a huge global phenomenon and how they are being organised at present is amateurish. I don't know if you follow American baseball or basketball, but two players in those sports that immediately come to mind when thinking about Rooney are the recently retired Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. At one point, they were legitimate fan-favorite superstars with global appeal, who played for the premiere franchise in their respective league. By the end of Jeter's career, he was laughably overpaid and a shell of his former self. The Yankees were arguably worse for staying loyal to their captain for so long. Bryant is still on the court, but he's ineffective most nights and is grossly overpaid relative to other players producing similar stats. The Lakers keep him on because they don't have a true successor yet and they need the star power to keep the arena full.
Samilktray Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Bit harsh on Kobe to liken Wayne Rooney to him. Jesus.
UPinCarolina Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Bit harsh on Kobe to liken Wayne Rooney to him. Jesus. Suppose so. Kobe is an all-time great.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35195533 Naismith to Norwich for £8 million. Can't believe we wouldn't be in for him, he would probably go straight in to our team, suits our style of play and we are in a better place than his current club.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 I'd like to think we'd be setting our sights a little higher than Steven Naismith. Not good enough for where we want to be.

If we are then fair enough, I think he'd be a direct upgrade on Okazaki though. Will be a decent signing for Norwich if they bag him.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Everyone goes on about consistency, Villa are the most consistent team by a mile and look how they're faring
