katieakita Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 What I'd like to know though - why did Hull get a Europa League spot after losing to Arsenal in the 2014 FA Cup final, but Aston Villa didn't despite doing the same in 2015? Does it have anything to do with Arsenal finishing 4th in 2013/14 and 3rd in 2014/15? FA ruled it was such a pathetic final with Arsenal winning at a canter and with Capt. Bellend in charge at Villa having them in Europe would bring the premier league into disrepute.
Finnaldo Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Liverpool confirm Grujic deal: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/35244115 £5.1m for a 19-year old? Makes our £3.75m deal for Gray look somewhat reasonable business. A deal where he fills his fantastic potential or he stays as a decent Championship player and we sell him on for likely 2/3 of the price and lose £1 million, which is a drop of our owner's investment/TV money, is extremely reasonable business. We haven't exactly paid £11 million for Ross McCormack have we now?
AKCJ Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Absolute dream would be all clubs spending the same amount on a small scale. Next best thing is all clubs spending loads but similarly. Worst was during 2005-2014 where about 4 clubs could enough money to bring in serious players.

Webbo Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Didn't Liverpool have first option on Gray? They've obviously decided this kid is a better prospect. Time will tell.

ealingfox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 I really hope that by the end of the season, whether they stay up or go down, nobody is still trying to keep going the myth that they don't have money.

Not seen anything like that before without the clubs having some kind of mutually-beneficial agreement in place. Maybe I've been playing too much FM though. Good detective work anyway!

davieG Posted 7 January 2016 Author Posted 7 January 2016 Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli a 'wake-up call' - Peterborough chairman Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli should serve as a wake-up call to big clubs about lower-league talent, says Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony. Leicester striker Vardy and Tottenham's Alli have been capped by England after playing in the Football League. "Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli should have woken up them all up," said MacAnthony. "People talk about value for money but what they don't realise is when you pay a fee for a foreign players it's the wages that come into it." He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "When you sign someone from the Football League you might pay a serious transfer fee, but the wages are only £5,000 to £10,000 [a week]. "You add all that package up over a year it's a lot less than when you're paying 50 to 80 grand a week for a foreign player." Former Stocksbridge Park Steels striker Vardy joined Leicester for £1m from Fleetwood in 2012 and is currently joint-top scorer in the Premier League. Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli have both made four appearances for England Meanwhile, ex-MK Dons midfielder 19-year-old Alli has impressed since making his Spurs debut in August and has already earned four England caps. But 59.9% of Premier League footballers come from overseas, the second-highest figure in Europe behind Cyprus. "I'm sick of seeing 80-90% of the transfer money leaving the country," said MacAnthony. "The Premier League need to do something because it's ridiculous. "It doesn't do England or Great Britain any good, and it certainly doesn't do the Football League any good. "If we get money for our players, I re-invest that money. It goes into the Football League, it goes into the non-league scene and that's the way it should be for me. "Of course you can buy foreign players, but why does 80-90% of the revenue always go to foreign clubs?"
