They were so keen to keep Advocaat who just wasn't sure and it took a while to decide, and that doesn't inspire confidence. Ranieri clearly wanted to join us and I think that helps. Having begged him to stay it's going to be a big call to get rid again (or he might walk in a few weeks). Sunderland are a perplexing club- huge fanbase, catchment area, so much potential but they just seem to exist. Swansea, Stoke, Crystal Palace are probably at the peak of their current powers- when was the last time Sunderland managed that? They are two shocking results to start with. Us and Norwich are not great Premier League sides and to concede 7 in 2 matches with a new defence is worrying as anything.

Nalis Posted 15 August 2015 Posted 15 August 2015 Sunderland need a 5 year plan or something to reach their potential rather than simply surviving as mentioned before. Throughout their team are a host of short term fix players. If that means building but risking relegation then so be it. Sadly though, as is standard in the modern game, the chairman would probably rather reaps the rewards of Premier League money and simply survival rather than the above.

I was talking to a group of their fans after last weekends game and they all felt they were doomed...then! Now they must be convinced.
