The whole world smiles Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Just interested what peoples 11 would be if they were allowed to pick current players and O'neils crop. I just did mine and was surprised that only 3 current players made the cut. GK: Flowers (Narrowly beats Keller and Kasper) CB: Walsh CB: Elliot CB: Taggart LWB: Guppy (A C*nts hair between him and Schlupp) RWB: Allbrighton CM: Izzet CM: Lennon AM: Mahrez CF: Vardy CF: Heskey What do people think of that, how does your team look?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 please, none of O'Neill's cutthroats belong anywhere near the magnificent calcio team Nigel Pearson has concocted
Stevosevic Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Flowers Elliott Taggart Walsh Guppy Lennon Izzet Albrighton Mahrez Heskey Vardy Just the 3 for me also.
Izzy Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I'd rather not, thanks all the same. The word 'Hybrid' alone has put me off. Sorry

Probably same for me although I'd stick in Drinkwater for Mahrez and probably select Keller instead.
fuchsntf Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Let this era 1st go by. In 2-5 yrs, the history of this new group of players, can be judged and compared. MONs players, have collected and finished their years.
filbertway Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 There should be more from the O'Neill period as you're taking it from a 5/6 season period. If we maintain this level for 5/6 season I could see it being more weighted in favour of the current team. Mine would probably be the same as the initial one. Possible N'Golo in for Lennon and Fuchs in for Guppy. Can't see many of the current team making it to the Keeper/Defense positions.
ScouseFox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 the old defence and the new attack cos we used to be quite solid at the back and now we're not and we used to score from set pieces and now we've got the two best players in the league
Oxfordfox83 Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Interesting comparison with this thread from August: http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/102172-lcfc-15-vs-00/page-1 2 main differences - here all the teams are set up the O'Neill way of 352 instead of 442, but more tellingly every single team in August had Huth in it. Goes to show how difficult it is for current players to compare with the Legends over long periods. I know it's only for fun, and we're comparing this moment with all of O'Neill's time, but in years to come when the new heroes are fighting for their places in a hybrid team it'll be great to hear "People don't appreciate how terrifying Vardy was to defences", or "You've forgotten the difference Kante made when he first arrived..."
Sampson Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Flowers Kaamark Taggart Elliott Fuchs Izzet Lennon Albrighton Mahrez Guppy Vardy Can I include Cambiasso as well? Or is this strictly the current side?
Sampson Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Probably same for me although I'd stick in Drinkwater for Mahrez and probably select Keller instead. I don't really get Keller over Flowers. Keller was good but always had a potential mistake in him. Flowers was definitely the best keeper of the choices here. Between 99-01 he was ridiculously good. Even though it doesn't fit into the current period he was pretty much the main reason we were top 6 in Taylor's first half season.
bluebeau Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I agree with FT's team of 11, but unfortunately there has to be some great players omitted, so let's put 6 on the bench. Casey Keller, Pontus Kamark Stan Collymore Tony Cottee Julian Joachim/ Steve Claridge Danny Drinkwater Yes there is only 1 defender, but I can't come up with any that are not listed.
Bryn Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Flowers Elliott Walsh Taggart Albrighton Guppy Izzet Lennon Mahrez Heskey Vardy Heskey and Vardy up front would be incredible.

Keller was one of the first players I liked, first goalkeeper kit I had, that's why I went with him.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 A lot of people playing Izzett as a holding midfielder-seems a bit like putting Vardy on the wing. He was the front of a middle three ahead of Lennon and Savage/Parker. Sure he'd do a job there, but really you've got to make the call of two from Izzett, Mahrez and Albrighton for AM and RW.
NeilLCFC Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 There's at least three other topics discussing exactly the same thing!
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 hardly any of the MON era players would cut it now Football has moved on a long way since then
artursteppe Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Guppy was crap. Most overrated player ever to wear a Leicester shirt. Schlupp and Fuchs are both much much better!
Aus Fox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Guppy was crap. Most overrated player ever to wear a Leicester shirt. Schlupp and Fuchs are both much much better! Absolute bullshittery! Guppy was clas and consistant. I'm sorry but As much as I like Jeff he's not in the same league as Guppy.
Bryn Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 You get a bit of creative license with this kind of thing, I think if you're thinking tactically you probably play Mahrez wide and Izzet centrally, and Heskey probably loses out.
bovril Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Guppy was superb. He and Elliott won us the cup in 2000, one of only three times we've done that, so deserves to be thought of as a legend. We weren't particularly 'solid at the back' back then. But brilliant from set pieces for sure. We scored a lot of goals. The O'Neill team used to have so much cliched crap written about them by the press. It seems some modern Leicester fans have bought into that as well.
Benguin Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Vardy Vardy Vardy Vardy Vardy Vardy Vardy Vardy Vardy Mahrez Vardy
Rushden fox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Guppy was crap. Most overrated player ever to wear a Leicester shirt. Schlupp and Fuchs are both much much better! Your talking tripe, guppy so ball control and crosses were sublime
