Year on Year as a club we really do the Remerbrance Day fixture superbly well. Great times to be a Leicester City fan - joint top of the Premier League!
Guest ttfn Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 First half was the worst half I've seen from us for ages, largely due to a very effective set-up from Watford and a very ineffective set-up from Leicester. Capoue and Watson both sat very deep in the area Mahrez wanted to occupy and frankly rendered Mahrez a waste of a shirt in the first half. Second half the introduction of Okazaki immediately reduced the copious amounts of time the Watford back 6 had on the ball and was obviously also critical in freeing Mahrez up on the wing. The experiment with Mahrez as a number 10 against all but the very top teams (where his defensive issues might be a problem and it would be the only way to get him in the team) has to end. People might not like Okazaki but he is integral to the balance of the side against teams that sit deep like Watford did. Watford I actually thought were alright - Ighalo and Deeney are a decent enough front 2 at this level. Second half Mahrez was great and Albrighton much better but for me the stand-out players were Kante (brain fart for the penalty apart) and Morgan, who looks every inch a top half PL centre back - something which seemed extremely unlikely six months or so ago. A bit of an "ugly" win but not every game can be pretty and winning like that is just as important as winning from behind.

Poor is harsh, it was pretty even first half I thought, but we were clearly better second half

Foxymcoxy Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 The only time Riyad has worked down the middle is the second half at Southampton where they were cruising and unprepared for Mahrez dropping in there. It's not a lost cause, as Mahrez can still learn but he is definitely better on the wing as it stands where he can't be crowded out and muscled off the ball. Looked quality in the middle behind 2 strikers last season as well.

Second half Okazaki gave us the extra bite we needed, on the pen Mahrez wanted to take it but Jamie won him over and what a strike great win happy day's.

On the game, we did well to go in level halftime but dominated the second so a well deserved win. The first goal was funny. Better on the close up replays. Our penalty was close.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 I thought we were OK today, not at our best but got the job done. I don't like Mahrez playing as a number 10 though, although its very fashionable to have a silky number 10 to sit behind your main striker I don't think it works for us. Imo we have to play two out and out strikers and Mahrez as a conventional winger where he can get 1vs1 with the full back and/or put a ball into the box. Happy bloody days all round mind!
