Watford (H) Post Match Thread 2 - 1

Team spirit is fantastic, Benny at the end congratulating every player with a massive smile on his face, even though he can't get a game - real class!

Thought CR set the team up wrong first half, but what I like about him is that he is decisive and changes the personnel / system earlier than a lot of managers.

Watford played quite well, but no real threat. They need to cut out the constant high ball, meat and drink for players like Morgan and Huth. Watford look like they have enough to stay up, but need to get a decent midfielder to make things happen.

Made up for Vardy, he is now the record holder as far as English players and all in one season, unlike RVN.

All in all one of the more relaxing one goal wins. Good times to support the city. Probably the third such period for me in 52 years!

The question is, Does Schlupp have potential as a CAM?

I genuinely think we need to sign an attacking midfielder in order to really get that diversity during a match to switch it up and eradicate problems, or could we use King there?

I haven't really read the thread so far but in answer to your initial question...absolutely not!

Great result, another good performance!

Think it's dangerous to mention Champions League football. Whilst we can all dream, this is the same team that was bottom of the Premier League for 140 days last year. Claudio is right, let's get to 40 points first and then see how long of the season is left.

We have awesome owners so the most encouraging thing is we know they will continue to invest in and improve the team where neccessary, so the long term outlook for the club looks great.

It's almost surreal to see us doing so well when we lost our manager at the end of the season, lost our best player and that our marquee summer signing can't even get into the team. I'm sure some January transfer targets are being lined up but with the team spirit so strong and perfomances so good, who would we even sign!

Amazing times to be supporting Leicester!

This has got to be a joke question?

Sort of,

He has pace, Strength, "ariel ability"

His passing is inconsistent but he can pick a pass out as he's done a fair few times over the last few seasons, He can't cross we've established that..

But if he worked on both his feet, and his consistency in passing etc, Why not?

Highly unlikely I know.

Ranieri has tried it out and he got pulled off... He isn't a CAM

He tried it for all of 15 mins lol

Prefer him a winger definitely, But he needs to learn to cross!

Shared a taxi with 3 Watford fans who sang 'did you cry' at me and my 10 year old lad.

Shut up quickly when I asked if it had got them promoted.

Joint top of the League, Vardy's dream continues, Mahrez epitomises our spirit by gifting Vardy his penalty and our defence does everything possible to keep a clean sheet except stopping their own midfielder playing silly b*****s in the penalty box.

Yes, Kante had an otherwise super game, yes, he scored his first Premiership goal for us courtesy of one of the worst clangers you'll ever see from a supposedly top-class goalkeeper but why he didn't simply clear the ball out of play before the penalty I'll never understand.

As for our Man of the Match, there were some good contenders but, for me, Danny Drinkwater made an impact here, there and everywhere in what was a cauldron of competition for the duration.

But Drinkwater, Morgan, Fuchs, Simpson, Kante and Mahrez all had a case for being considered best of the bunch yet all that mattered really was another three points and further proof that Leicester City are a nightmare for any defence.

Some have referred to Shinji's efforts and I've some sympathy. He did put himself about like the "industrious" midfielder I've though him to be for ages. But as a striker he had one chance and spent his approach to goal looking to give Vardy the responsibility of shooting instead of shooting himself and having a damned good chance of scoring.

Kante had the same problem though how he even fashioned a shot from the position he got into for the Gomez blunder deserves some credit. Gomez himself deserved none...though he did make one excellent save a little later.

Yes, Fuchs was all but exemplary against a tough opponent but Morgan was masterful too and absolutely vital in stretching to make a deflective header to foil incoming Watford striker Troy Deeney who would probably have had a free header from five yards otherwise.

People still talk about our amassing still more points as if Lady Luck has shares in the club but there's very little luck involved. Once again we showed what an intense and determined team we are and one that asks questions of every section of the opposition defence.

I remember a seemingly innnocuous moment when Vardy blocked a clearing pass from a defender hard by the touchline. It was late in the first half. The defender thought he was on easy street with time and space aplenty but he - and the Watford backline - never looked truly comfortable again

Ranieri surprised me by taking Schlupp off because the young winger had been well involved in all sorts of ways for all that he skied one glorious chance and for some reason refused to run at the opposition right-back. I actually felt he looked more dangerous moving inside but no-one could surely argue with the merit of Ranieri's tinkering given the consequences.

The Vardy-won penalty was simple enough, as shown by Gomez smiling in relief at not being sent off and Kante's goal reflected our continued intent for all that it was so soft.

But perhaps the real story was the way our back line restricted such a capable attack to little more than attacking titbits as emphasised by Kasper having to make only a couple of notable saves - one of which was excellent - and one important tip on from a dangerous cross which the visiting forwards were set to gobble up with glee.

Otherwise Simpson, Huth, Morgan and Fuchs looked all but impregnable in what was an all-round example of footballing professionalism save for the hiccups I've mentioned.

For me we're joint-top on the merit of organised football played at pace and I see no reason why it can't continue.

As a team performance today's was 8/10. Drinkwater merited close to 10 and a whole lot of guys earned 7's or even a little more. Well done one and all and what a time it is to be a Leicester fan.

PS: Didn't you just know that Vardy would shake off his injury. Broken wrist, bruised groin or whatever, the bloke would still be dangerous in a wheelchair. Wonderful!    .

Don't all clubs sing that sort of stuff though?

Yeah. I honestly don't get the modern day fotball fan that seem to think everything other clubs fans do are cringey and tinpot yet do and say the same stupid things

Boom!!!

Another 3 points, better second half .

Have to start 1+1 up top? If that's Okazaki playing the headless 10 role so be it! It works...?

Crowd flat 1st half as was the game. Thought we shown them toooooo much respect.

But fair play to Don(Ranieri) changes it as per and we come out on top.

Wasn't a classic but it was a win and i'll take any kind of win.

It was quite a poor 1st half, we edged it i'd say but a 0-0 draw was a fair reflection of the 1st half.

It was a Championship standard game, Watford had come to play headball and I think that sums them up.

2nd half we come out flying and throughly deserved the win, still weren't at our best, but I think the players looked abit tired, given how they've been playing it's understandable.

Another win, things are great, keep it coming!!

Think 2-0 or 3-1 would've been a more accurate reflection of the game. Kante had a bit of a brain fart but he should've got a shout (if he didn't)

Wish we could get a full 90 minute performance from Riyad
